To find unpainted toenails gross?

I wouldn't dream of wearing sandals without unpainted toenails. I just think it looks horrible. Am I being weird? I don't care what anyone else's feet look like though tbh.

wow. Personally I prefer to wear sandals with painted toenails. But I've never given a monkeys about whether other people's toenails are painted.

Do you feel the same way about men's toenails?

To be fair, the OP said that she doesn't care what anyone else does with their feet, and that her issue is with looking at her own toenails.

YABU. Everything from the ankle down is revolting, nail varnish can't help it.

Mine are the same. I thought my little toenails had disappeared but they are hanging in there. I don't paint mine either.

I find the opposite! When a toe nail comes off (this is a very occasional thing I promise!) it's much easier to hide the fact by painting over the area to match the rest.

And yes to OP - bare toenails are often gross except on young people who mostly have nails which are not discoloured by age or otherwise unattractive. Men should not wear shoes with open toes at all 😂

I can’t reach my toenails to paint them as I’m disabled. It doesn’t stop me wearing sandals throughout the summer. Most people are too busy staring at my wheelchair to notice my bare feet!

Bare, painted, I honestly couldn't care less. Mine or anyone else's.

It’s a shame that some people might find my clean, healthy, unadorned feet disgusting. Probably the same people who think my unshaved legs are somehow unhygienic or ‘gross’.

Anything that draws attention to my toes is bad news. I sometimes admire lovely, straight, even toes with pretty painted nails. That is about as far from a description of mine as you could get!
YABU because you'd find mine 'gross' with or without paint, but they're my feet and they've been holding me up for a long time!

Why do we have toenails anyway? Presumably a throwback to our feet having a more “hand like” functions than as a protective thing? I used to bite my names at lot and it was a bugger trying to unpick things with basically no finger nails so am entirely onboard with the point of those - big fan.

We all have our hang-ups! Be boring if they were all the same.

@Kugela - you could always get them done for you? I get Biab done every 6 weeks or so in the summer, as my hands aren't steady enough and I'm too creaky to do them myself!

I can't stand seeing blokes (often bald, often tubby) in football shirts, shorts, and some form of sandals with bulbous toes. Yuck.

Brits are really weird about feet. I assume none of you have lived in countries where both men and women have open toed sandals and unpainted feet.
