To find unpainted toenails gross?

I wouldn't dream of wearing sandals without unpainted toenails. I just think it looks horrible. Am I being weird? I don't care what anyone else's feet look like though tbh.

For those in the "unpainted nails are gross" camp, is a clear top coat only acceptable?

Asking for someone with tiny toenails and clown fingers <ahem>.

I always have painted toenails. I have only ever had bare nails for egg retrieval and embryo implantation. It is silly, but since it feels kind of vulnerable to have my natural nails show.

Just the one red painted toenail? Do you not think painting them all looks better?

I paint mine once a week. It's part of my looking after my body so it doesnt fall apart any more than it already has routine I faff in the bath for hours then moisturise, do a face mask etc. I like painted toenails on me. Never notice anyone else's. Not bothered about my fingernails. Some non painters on here are very defensive though. The language used is so telling... stinky, smelly, chavvy, cheap, tacky. Telling women they are part of the problem while using words like that to describe said women. It's interesting.

I also like a bright shoe and a pop of colour pant. 😂

I'm completely unbothered about my looks. I cut my own hair, don't look in the mirror all day, wear tatty work stuff all day (metalsmith) and wear clothes that are years old. But... I always paint my toenails. No gel stuff, just nail varnish, old style.

To be fair as a none painter I have found the language used by the painters to be offensive "disgusting" for example , I think there was a foul as well

I agree. I surf a lot and tanned feet come with it. Sometimes only tanned feet if I’m in a wetsuit. That looks less good, admittedly.

Sand exfoliates feet really well and as I keep my feet and toes clean, filed and tidy, I don’t have the godawful yellow staining created by coloured polish.

I had posted earlier that I don't do nail polish (i very very rarely do it on my fingers, never on my toes). But I do exfoliate -and moisturise my feet, and keep my nails well trimmed.

So it's not a case of not caring - it's deciding what are the important things to spend my very precious time for caring on.

Yes @midgetastic but those posters are mainly talking about feet in general. Let's be honest, they ain't the prettiest part of a body and a lot of people have huge issues with feet. Either disgusted by them or adore them (foot fetish), they are a controversial part of the body 😁. I havent seen the toe nail painters post half as much vitriol towards the non painters. It's the words tacky and chivvy that are ALWAYS used against women who choose to make an effort with their appearance. I am not one of those women by the way, not bothered about make up, nails and my eyebrows are wild. It is fascinating to me how we subtly try and put each other down. Again, I like painting mine but don't notice on anyone else. Wouldn't do for us all to be the same.

If I say I am disgusted by fat on people would you be equally suggestive that people should hide that ?

I'm the same. Can't bear mine without varnish on.

Mine are like this. Except my wonky toes are wonky by nature. I still wear sandals even though my feet are gross.

Yes, nothing nicer than a foot that has been in the sea a lot- squeaky clean, soft, tanned and with lovely pink, shiny unpainted nails.

I regularly go out with sandals and my toes unpainted. Sad that we've become obsessed with looks that you find natural gross! What's the difference? One has paint on, one does not. Bit different if they are unwashed or overgrown, fungal etc!

I would say YABU but I can’t because I have a similar feeling about long nails and false nails. They repulse me and make me feel sick.

I agree OP, a lot of people have ugly toenails, including me. (And don't even get me started on men's toenails 🤢 - the main reason, though not the only one, that I don't think men should wear sandals.)

I don’t have nails on my big toes after both were removed and most years I would paint the nail bed and the rest of the nails but this year I haven’t and I still wear sandals and to be honest I have more important things to worry about and I don’t care if people think it looks odd…
