It's driving me insane. Such a twee word. When did the cosy obsession start?

JamSandle · 23/07/2023 15:51

I've always used it!

Keykaty · 23/07/2023 15:52

And snuggle up under a cosy blanket. Ugh

Butchyrestingface · 23/07/2023 15:53

The #hygge effect.

converseandjeans · 23/07/2023 15:54

Do you prefer hygge? gemütlich?

DustyLee123 · 23/07/2023 15:54

Ooo, I love sitting under a blanket on the couch with the dog, being all cosy 😊

noglow · 23/07/2023 15:54

Do you not want to be cosy?

icelolly12 · 23/07/2023 15:55

It's hardly a new word and what's wrong with wanting to be cosy?! Do you have a suggestion of a different word?

PriamFarrl · 23/07/2023 15:55

What is wrong with cosy? Do you prefer to be cold and uncomfortable? If you don’t like cosy then what word would you suggest instead.

ilovesooty · 23/07/2023 15:56

Puke inducing. It starts earlier every year.

DustyLee123 · 23/07/2023 15:57

I’ve got my cheap Oodie on right now, I’m lovely and cozy.

electriclight · 23/07/2023 15:58

People who spend a lot of time on sm like mn are more likely to enjoy sitting under a blanket on the sofa than being all outdoorsy imo. Including me. I love that cosy feeling - candles, blankets, hot drinks.

Pigeonbilly · 23/07/2023 15:58

To me it has connotations of hibernation. Like living a half life. Yes it's nice ro be cosy in bed ar night but not all day every day.

AgnesX · 23/07/2023 15:59

Better than comfy. I hate comfy.

DustyLee123 · 23/07/2023 15:59

Another C word ! Comfy and cozy ☺️

GalileoHumpkins · 23/07/2023 16:00

I'd rather be snug tbh but only in bed, sitting on the sofa under a blanket with a hot chocolate does not do it for me.

Surely normal to discuss seasonal changes though. People are starting to think ahead to Autumn. Then they'll be talking about Christmas. Then they'll be talking about Spring and warmer weather. Maybe you don't notice if they're talking about things that you like and are interested in. That's quite a strong reaction there though, intended to insult people I guess.

10HailMarys · 23/07/2023 16:01

It’s not a new word or a new concept. It’s a really weird thing for you to be annoyed about.

No, but it's July! High summer.

Cosy is just not a summer thing.

Keykaty · 23/07/2023 16:04

Comfy and cosy with a cuppa.

Scream!

Pigeonbilly · 23/07/2023 16:06

Maybe it is weird to be annoyed about it. It just grates on me. I'm wondering if it's from lockdown and people being scared of outside and they feel safe in their little cocoons.
I find it suffocating.

As soon as we get any warm weather at all there are complaints and the talk turns to yearning for cosy and snuggling. It's more than normal discussion of seasonal changes.

It seems that there are people who begrudge the very short period of summer we tend to get, and I find that tedious.

icelolly12 · 23/07/2023 16:07

When it's lashing down, cold and grey outside, yes I want to be indoors and shock horror feeling "cosy"

Dontlistitonfacebook · 23/07/2023 16:07

Would you prefer "colsie?"

Or just stick to "bracing" which is an apt way to describe British summer?

Cosy is just not a summer thing.

It may be high summer but it's been pouring down all day, in fact all week and cold. Not exactly ice cream on the beach or picnic in the park weather regardless of the time of year.

SerafinasGoose · 23/07/2023 16:09

And autumn isn't even approaching yet ...
