It's driving me insane. Such a twee word. When did the cosy obsession start?

OP posts:
Pigeonbilly · 23/07/2023 16:30

I think I'm just a person that hates being cooped up indoors. Even in winter I love freah air. It's only 15c but I've got all the windows open.

I love feeling cozy ! Bring back autumn, fleecy pyjamas, blankets, fairy lights, diptyque feu de bois candle, slow cooker !!! Cant wait 🥰

hivetoo · 23/07/2023 16:33

I don't know why you wouldn't want to be?!

I've never posted about being cosy. But I'd much rather that than alternatively being uncomfortable/cold.

Boomboom22 · 23/07/2023 16:36

I like to be cosy when I'm ill so not a good word really.

TheChosenTwo · 23/07/2023 16:37

There’s a time and a place for being warm on your sofa but to read some posts it’s like some people’s whole life is sitting under a blanket on their sofa. Which is fine if that’s what they like but I’d feel very suffocated if that was my main pleasure and goal in daily life.
Worse than cosy for me though is people that ‘snuggle up under a blanket with a hot choc’ - if any of my dc tried that the hot chocolate would be upended all over themselves, the blankets and the fucking sofa. No chance, you’re up at the island with a bloody hot chocolate in this house!
Anyway, I do like sitting on my sofa with a blanket but when it’s cold and rainy and winter and I have nothing else to do.

I have always been obsessed with cosiness, ever since I was a small child.

This.

I love cute, cosy, quaint, charming things and places, and always have. 🥰

Is there anything stopping you from using your slow cooker now?

notinameeting · 23/07/2023 16:41

Totally agree with you OP. I think it was particularly apparent when people were discussing keeping warm without heating bills going mad. Perfectly reasonable of course but no one could mention socks without them being thick and fluffy. Jumpers had to be snuggly and blankets always fleecy. Cosy does my head in too!

PoseyFlump · 23/07/2023 16:43

Watch the news for half an hour... a cosy blanket to hide under is more appealing after that.

Pinktrousers2020 · 23/07/2023 16:43

@ilovesooty slowcooker is more of a winter thing

To me it has connotations of hibernation. Like living a half life. Yes it's nice ro be cosy in bed ar night but not all day every day.

Sounds perfect.

GillianMcQueef · 23/07/2023 16:45

What's wrong with being comfortable and happy, doing your own thing, especially when the weather is shocking and the world has gone to hell in a handcart?

I've been homeless and possibly as a result treasure cosiness more than most. Being warm, comfy, with books to read or films to watch or crafting to do (or whatever else you're into) may seem mundane to some, but until you don't have it you don't know how precious it is.

Nothing beats a cosy poo

People who spend a lot of time on sm like mn are more likely to enjoy sitting under a blanket on the sofa than being all outdoorsy imo. Including me. I love that cosy feeling - candles, blankets, hot drinks.

No, I love being outdoorsy too. Out in the fresh air, a long old walk in the woods/geocaching or a cycle ride but then coming home and snuggling up all cosy on the sofa with a warm drink. Bliss.

It's better than 'comfy'!

Do you wear fluffy slippers and light candles? Maybe take a mug of hot chocolate in with you?

Do you do it under a blanket with a hot choc and some candles burning?

🤣🤣 honestly! Have a poo wearing a comfy dressing gown, warm socks, playing on phone, no kids.... my mate and I call it a cosy poo 🤣

You could also call it a man poo 🤣🤣🤣

Me, too. And I'm not stopping now. I've got it to an art form. 😀

LuckySantangelo35 · 23/07/2023 17:07

Who the fuck wants to sit in the house getting cosy in July?!

I wanna be out wearing nice little summer dresses and sandals and sunglasses drinking gin and tonic with mates in beer gardens

Don't we all! But the weather isn't sandals and sunglasses friendly sadly.

And even when it is, after months of heat and beer gardens one does hanker after roaring fires and candles. Well this one does anyway!

SpaceJamtart · 23/07/2023 16:16

I don't mind the word but I do get not wanting to be cosy in summer.

To me it does feel a bit cloying and suffocating like sitting in deep squashy sofa in a small warm room with loads of soft furnishings and heavy velvet curtains. Makes me feel all smothered and stuffy, I would much rather a cool and breezy space- comforable but airy, especially in summer.

I’m in a Scandi country and we do use the word a lot (hygge/mysig), but, our rooms are definitely not small or stuffy with heavy curtains..quite the opposite! What you describe sounds like hell. 😂😅

@Arewehumanorarewecupboards

really?! There’s a big wide world out there - explore it , don’t hibernate!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/07/2023 17:12

@TheYearOfSmallThings , it might be July, but it was very chilly and wet here yesterday - in SW London, not Up North.

And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with ‘cosy’, unless you’re a Brit who spells it ‘cozy’.
