I don't know what these people think they are achieving. I think the mum was in a cab which looks like an electric car anyway, they refuse to let her get past.

@TRexTara " Whenever I have seen a group like Let Women Speak protest (never been in person) they have always thought it through and planned ahead of time, gotten relevant permits, had a safeguarding plan in case of problems, especially during covid, but these idiots are causing big problems here and have no plan of action. "

And the likes of JSO/XR are probably the same abusive so and so's that turn up to the LWS events, shouting and disrupting! Middle class, narcissistic, hypocritical scumbags and assorted soap dodging commies!

TRexTara · 22/07/2023 17:17

Also this is turning into a bit of a class issue, I'm not surprised! They have absolutely no compassion for ordinary working class people who are just trying to live their lives.

For what it's worth, I don't drive, never have, rarely get taxis and in the last 15 years I've been on a plane once to get to a close relatives funeral.

You can, you turn around in the oncoming lane which is also empty thanks to the blockage.

I suggest you watch the video before you suggest that, as it shows why that isn't an option.

TRexTara · 22/07/2023 17:18

@EpicChaos Absolutely!

I'm guessing you either haven't seen the video or missed the bit that shows the barrier preventing anyone from going into the oncoming lane.

Bumblebeetree21 · 22/07/2023 17:18

Sorry you are so angry. I really wasn't lecturing you, just saying my feeling. Sorry it has made you so upset.

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 22/07/2023 17:19

I don’t understand why the police aren’t arresting them and dragging them off? They can do that when they want, ie round the coronation or the state opening of parliament. They have the power and legal right.

Well they pick and choose don't they? How many times has KJK been arrested now just for speaking her mind in a safe way in public? It's a joke.

It doesn't matter if it was critical! Perhaps it's an appointment she's been begging for for months! Perhaps her child had a fever or had had a fit, it doesn't matter. Her baby needed to be seen. Did you watch the video? How on Earth could that car have possibly turned around without causing a major incident and the driver losing their license?

Then why not turn round and take another route? There are two clear lanes to the left of the queue of cars, I'm sure other cars could have moved over to allow the taxi out if need be.

renamedbutsame · 22/07/2023 17:22

These oil protesters are beaten up and dragged by burly men like animals on some video recordings ...not nice for anyone involved

I don't see a barrier, I see a small kerb which could be driven over in an emergency?

Right. So mum and baby in the far right lane could have driven through the iron post barrier set in concrete buffers to do an illegal U-turn and get to the other side of the road where oncoming traffic WAS in fact driving. Brilliant idea. And do you think a critically ill or injured newborn baby is going to survive the collision G forces and impact needed to blast through the iron barricade?

StefanosHill · 22/07/2023 17:24

Flickersy · 22/07/2023 17:04

If your child was that ill why would you waste time arguing when you could ask the taxi driver to turn around and take a side street? JSO are a pain but they don't block all the roads - just go round.

I rather suspect the baby was not in a critical state.

Bit random to think this was possible

The traffic was stuck no side streets

cactusjane · 22/07/2023 17:24

Ostryga · 22/07/2023 16:51

Every time I see a JSO protest like this it makes me want to idle my car for hours, not recycle and buy endless single-use plastic. I assume that’s not what they’re after.

If someone stopped me from taking Dd to hospital, they would be joining us in A&E.

Me too. And it's not right but this is the effect that their smug, self satisfying faces have on people. Utterly counter productive. Yes we should have the right to protest but these protests are counter productive and alienating people. Also people have the right to go about their daily life and get their kids to hospital without some fucking entitled prick blocking their way.

I have watched the video. There are two clear lanes of traffic to the right of the queue of cars which appears to be separated only by a kerb.

Those aren’t the lanes of the road. That’s a residential parking area to the left of the ASDA van and white car and the grassy/trees barrier.

There are only barriers near the traffic lights, as far as I can see from the video.

And people don't seem to care about illegality when revelling in the idea of running these people over. A U-turn seems the lesser of two evils, but that's just me.

I used left incorrectly. It was my left in the video but would have been to the right of the traffic jams direction of travel.

Oysterbabe · 22/07/2023 17:28

Yanbu.
If I ruled the world you'd be legally allowed to just run them over.

No. Watch to the end. The barrier runs the entire length of the road.

I think she was in a cab, but yes I would have done the same. You can hear the anxiety in her voice but the bloke she is shouting at just looks watless.

A Woman and her sick baby are nothing to the saviours of this world. That is because JSO personnel don't actually care about people at all. They have principles; they have an ideology. They will sacrifice anyone to their principles, even a sickly newborn and a frantic young mother and feel perfectly justified.

TRexTara · 22/07/2023 17:32

renamedbutsame · 22/07/2023 17:22

Don't agree with anyone being beaten up in most circumstances. But the smug way they stand there like they are Jesus and get to decide, I'm sorry but if you are a working tradesman and self employed, you just won't get paid if you don't turn up to the job on time or get paid half. So I understand the rage. Also the video I mentioned where the guys car was smashed up. He will probably have to pay for most of that or it will increase his insurance.

In this situation, they are putting a child's life and well being at risk, all the posts about it probably wasn't an emergency, well we don't know that, more importantly, neither did they!

We are already experiencing train strikes right now so the only way some people have to get to get to work is by car.

Also someone said that a few of the cars they are stopping were electric anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️

If you are going to do such a dangerous thing as stopping traffic, you need to have a plan in place for emergency. Otherwise you are just being an obnoxious wanker.

Upset? upset? i'm incandescent is what i am! You might not think you're lecturing but that's exactly how you come across.
I've seen what grinding poverty does to people, their families and their communities. The dependencies on alcohol/drugs in an effort to escape even for a short time, the crushing feelings of hopelessness when there's no work, when the poverty has led to love flying out the window and divorce coming in through the door, splitting families and resulting in heavier spirals into drug/alcohol abuse and then homelessness quite often. I've seen it play out many times, far too many times to sit here and have a bunch of hypocrites lecture me while they're stopping people getting to their work so that they can put food on the table and clothes on the backs of their kids. Are you going to fully financially support them if they lose their jobs thanks to JSO/XR getting them sacked for bad timekeeping? Are you/they? No i bet you hot foot it away then.

The report you’ve linked to doesn’t say what you claim it says though.
