Sadly, I think that, although there is always a very faint chance that my children could find themselves in an ambulance briefly held up by protestors, it's far more likely that in the future they will face food shortages, flooding, sea level rises and political instability caused by climate change. Again, that's something I'm far more worried about. But again, as long as you're all right, Jack....🙄

I am, however, terrified about runaway climate change.

I try and cut out plastics, use refill stations, no fruit or veg in plastic etc
I cycle rather than use my car
I save and reuse water, I have 7 water butts in my garden to catch rain water
I grow a lot of my own fruit and veg

I‘m not naive, I am well aware that I’m not perfect and my savings are minuscule compared with the damage being done, but my conscience is clear.

Maybe I'm missing something, because I dont understand what JSO are doing apart from turning everyone against their cause apart from looking idiotic with their slow walking.

But watching the coverage of them at Wimbledon, the snooker, the rugby and the Chelsea Flower show, what is to stop them (or anyone else) doing far more damage?

Given they dont mind blocking ambulances whilst people die, it's not out of possibility that they might do something far more serious. Where is tbe security?

Im not proposing an “eco Brexit” at all. We don’t export any oil, in fact we import oil because we aren’t drilling enough for domestic needs, hence the need for new licenses. In the charts I posted, the consumption emissions DO include everything we import and that includes imports from China, so they DO count and even after counting them, we have still cut our carbon footprint dramatically.

So the UK’s global emissions are not the problem in all of this. We are literally a world leader at cutting them down.

Yes global emissions matter, but what the fuck is JSO protesting going to do about global emissions? Not one iota of a difference, other than slightly increasing our emissions by causing traffic jams.

The only way JSO would make a difference was if the British Empire still existed and their actions could somehow translate into the British Government exercising Imperial Power to order other colony countries into doing their bit. But we are a tiny country now with no real power to speak of.

I have empathy for JSO activists very obvious lack of intelligence and misplaced caring for the environment. It’s rather like how you’d have empathy for a daft colleague who tries very hard to do a good job, but the poor dear just has the brain of a dull spoon.

How on earth were men with canisters able to access it?
Granted it was orange powder but could have been anything couldn’t it?
As it was it went right into the players faces. It being rugby there is very little police presence so could have been really serious if anyone less well intentioned. A worry indeed.

YANBU, it works to the government's advantage to let them crack on though. The more the general public get annoyed with JSO and their disruption the more likely people are to not be arsed with the message they're spreading.

I am starting to think that JSO are the only sane people in this country.

The world is now, quite literally, on fire. We are heading for (already getting) lethal extreme weather events, higher rates of disease and death, more unpredictable weather, food shortages, drought, mass migration. Next on the list is conflict and war.

The extreme weather in Europe will cause crop failures and food shortages. It might be ok this year. Maybe next too. But…This will get worse. We will struggle to feed ourselves. Morality is a higher order human need. When we are starving we will fight each other.

We are rapidly heading towards a living hell, leading to extinction. And our governments know. Their own advisors say they are not doing enough. The science (based on decades of global research, using multiple models), is unequivocal - that we are causing the planet to heat up more than would happen naturally. The science is clear. We need need to just stop oil. We can lessen the worst of it.

If we are heading for a living hell, and over 30 years of science and campaigning is not being listened to by those in power. If everything else has been tried. What else is there to do but civil disobedience?

The people that say ‘fuck it, I know the situation we are in, I know what’s coming, I know what I can do…but I don’t care about it. I’m going to keep consuming whatever I like, I’m not going to vote or I’m going to vote selfishly’ are the people that we should be angry with.

Problem is the vast majority of people are just living “normal” lives. Look at the threads on MN. All the new outfits for weddings, interventions and EHCPs for SEN, doing up houses, trying to conceive are all first world luxuries enabled by easy access to oil.
We all want stuff delivered from around the world including vegans and just stop oil protesters. They haven’t made their hi viz vests and orange powder canisters from sheds in their wild gardens.
If you want less resources used it’s either less stuff or less people.
