Or if we mess up the jet stream, arctic winters.

We have really messed up horrifically, haven't we.

I am scared its too late to put right

We can't do anything about reversing what we've done. Humans might die out. They might learn to adapt, they might not.

The earth has been changing since it formed. It's a ball in space and at the moment it's got us riding on it. It will change again once we've all died or moved off. And then again a few times after that. And then the sun will die and that will be the end of the Earth.

How does that make me feel? Not worried. Small. Insignificant. Which is what we are.

Kabbalah · 18/07/2023 09:12

You could shut down the whole of the UK and it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference.

Last year was AWFUL in London, I felt really anxious and nervous - was terrifying to see everything go brown

I'm really scared about what is happening in Continental Europe Sad

We need to just stop flying

Do all the ‘elites’ in their private jets stop flying? 🤔
Nope - why not? Because they’re spinning you a load of crap that’s why.

LittleApartmentOnThePrairie · 18/07/2023 09:13

CampsieGlamper

The Ozone layer healed due to legislation. Humans changed what we did and it worked. We followed the science.

Im really sorry, but the science is unequivocal. Decades of global research using multiple models has already been proven right. There is no debate to be had now. The only debate is do we continue on this path towards a living hell or do we follow the science and make the changes.

I don't believe we are eating less meat than 40 years ago. I will do anything else to help but I will not change my diet.

Out of curiosity, why not? Changing your diet is one of the more impactful changes you can make. There's a lot of changes to diet that can be made without going full vegan in a day.

AIBot · 18/07/2023 09:14

Basic things that would make the biggest difference in the UK would be

  • no new fossil fuel licences
  • Proper investment in renewables (also bringing in skilled job opportunities)
  • change building codes such that all new builds need minimal heating in winter and are cool in summer
  • insulate the UK’s existing housing stock properly

Things we can all do

  • Write to your MP
  • Switch to a green electricity tariff
  • Tell your local council to not chop trees down unless for safety reasons
  • insulate your home
Laiste · 18/07/2023 09:14

Use solid shampoo and stop the forces of the universe!

Sorry 😂

megletthesecond · 18/07/2023 09:17

Eating less meat means you're less likely to die early too. Look at the Japanese and Mediterranean diets. More veg, less meat and less food.

The impact of humans on the planet has not been insignficant. Giraffes did not think up agriculture, cats didn't build roads, fish didn't mine fossil fuels, never has a parrot owned a car or shopped at John Lewis.

This isn't natural climate change. It's man-made. That would be us.

No, the ‘elites’ brush the inconvenient truth under the carpet. They keep chasing the money (much of which will be linked to carbon heavy industries) and maintain their lavish lifestyle. They use their power to protect their wealth and damn the rest of us to a living hell. Our PM is a case in point.

But it’s not them asking us to reduce our carbon footprint. It’s the thousands of scientists who can see what’s coming and lie awake worrying at night. It’s the campaigners who have been working for decades to get us to understand what we are doing to ourselves. It’s the people in the countries hit first and worst. Pakistan produces tiny amounts of carbon in comparison but suffered some of the worst effects of climate change last year. And it’s me. A mother who lies awake worrying about the future her DC will have.

That’s whose asking for change.

Don’t compare what we do to the richest 2%. Compare what we do to the poorest and most vulnerable people on the planet.

Yes its why i ve little time for Charles and Attenborough, these people have racked up millions of air miles, seen everything the world has to offer, over decades but tell us we can not
They ve also encouraged mass tourism, all those TV programs make us lot all want to visit them.

@orangeleavesinautumn The number of recycled products is tiny, very few can be made at a profit, so who pays? and will make zero difference plus do you even know their carbon foot print?

As a pp has said, its too late, we would be better limiting it for future generations & adaptation.

Govt minister on Sky telling Kay Burley "the UK is leading the way on carbon reduction, whilst growing the economy and countries look to the uk..." there really is no hope with these sorts of lies.

It's just weather OP, calm down.

Nobody has messed anything up, do you feel guilty about the children forced to work in lithium mines in Africa, so that we can drive around here in our guilt free electric cars?

Didn't think so.

Do you feel bad about the fact that huge areas of our oceans are being stripped of life through drag net fishing?

Do you feel guilty about the fact that there are too many people on the planet and we just keep adding to the problem?

There's an endless list of things you could feel bad about, but don't, because those things aren't front page news designed to generate clic bait advertising revenue.

Weather is just weather, just this morning on radio 4 they were discussing the heatwave in Europe, some climate scientist was being interviewed and even she stated

"we don't know how much climate change has effected the temperatures in this heatwave"

Stop panicking.

You must understand the motivation behind the current climate driven rhetoric that is being used to manipulate people.

Think about the selective use of "eco-guilt" stories that permeate our media, think about the near fanatical levels of coercion and misinformation forced on children in our schools, even the church is at it. And, judging by your post, you've fallen for it.

It's not 'just' weather fgs. That whole list you give in your post, yes I do feel bad about and think about constantly.

I've followed if that's the word, climate change for 45 years, felt like it was just me, Sting and Prince Charles for about 30 of those years. Now everyone gets it, it's impossible to refute. I feel in turns desperate, then hopeful then back to desperate. Even James Lovelock gave up in the end, humans are so unutterably selfish and yes I do include myself in that. It's not looking pretty no matter how much people like you kid themselves that what's going on is normal.

TeddyFluff · 18/07/2023 09:22

@midgetastic meat and dairy aren’t the problem. The rainforest destruction is to grow fucking soy to create fake food and milk.

HeritageBlooms · 18/07/2023 09:22

This ^^ and that includes stop producing more humans. The planet doesn’t need any more humans because they start the whole consumption cycle again.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 18/07/2023 09:22

@HRTQueen , I don’t see what’s wrong with having a house full of food - as long as you don’t waste any of it.
Wanton waste of food is one thing that really riles me.

And I dare say there’s still plenty of (household) food waste in the U.K., despite all the moans about how expensive food is now.

LittleApartmentOnThePrairie · 18/07/2023 09:23

We could all just accept that we will all suffer and die off. We could accept tge living hell we are heading for. We could just throw our hands up and say ‘nah, can’t be bothered to change so let’s just take what happens’. Or we could listen to the scientists that have been proven right already;

9 things you can do about climate change

With so many experts on climate change here at Imperial, many people ask us what they personally can do about it?

The world is over populated, we have way too many aircraft in the sky, and far too many cars on the roads. Something has to give but I honestly think we're too late.

I had heatstroke last year, and it was horrible. I am literally dreading heat coming this way.

Nobody needs to eat soy in place of meat. We can eat vegetables.

empatheticpretzel · 18/07/2023 09:24

I wasnt expecting it to be this fast.

LlynTegid · 18/07/2023 09:25

We need to have proper plans for 40C temperatures. Air conditioned buildings being available to those who cannot manage heat easily. Bosses not forcing people into an office when they can work from home for a few days. Outdoor venues closed or limited at the height of the day. To give examples.

My grandad ate loads of meat and lived to his 90s so I think that is not true.

LittleApartmentOnThePrairie · 18/07/2023 09:26

TeddyFluff

The same rainforests that are cut down to create the food that feeds the animals that we then eat.

Im afraid it’s absolutely true that eating meat and dairy is higher carbon than plant based. But you don’t have to be all or nothing. Start small. Have a meat free day a week or save meat til the weekend. More plants in your diet is sooo good for your health too.

Soy is rank. I eat plenty of veg but also eat meat every day. And its going to stay that way.

Ha ha ha. My grandad smoked all
his life and lived to 100 so I’m off to light one up! 😉
