We have really messed up horrifically, haven't we.

Covid was grooming the dimwits, now we are going to witness it all again with this crap 🙄

Covid had you fall down a rabbit hole of misinformation and feeling superior as you believe you’re awake

Climate change proves you can't teach stupid

Moreorlessmentallystable · 01/08/2023 13:48

If only people would stop buying shit they dont need.

Grannyolive · 01/08/2023 14:13

The climate has been in constant flux for 4.6 billion years. Give it a few years, this nonsense will pass - the coming ice age, hole in the ozone layer, acid rain, global warming - all these terrors were quietly abandoned. Climate change is a good one, I'll give them credit for that, because it covers any weather event they want to use. Give it time, though, nothing will have changed on Earth by the time you die, the cycles are way too long.

So because I don’t agree with you I get called stupid. Think that says a lot more about you than it does about me.

Years ago the weather maps in Europe showed high temperatures, but they weren’t in red. (This is what people payed for when they holidayed abroad)

I’ve spoken to people who have been to these countries recently, and they’ve been no hotter than previous years.

It’s all done to make you afraid, and boy isn’t it working well. The same as the Covid fiasco. People getting jabbed against something with a 99% recovery rate.
Now we’re hearing about all the people dropping dead from heart attacks, young fit people too.

No doubt if there was a jab for climate change, some people would be queuing up for it.

We all have different opinions on this. I just think it’s a load of rubbish!!!!!

The climate has never changed as fast as it is now without an extreme external event e.g. the meteor that did for the dinosaurs. Rapid shifts in climate are accompanied by mass extinctions.

An ice age was predicted by the press during the 1970s when scientists discovered that solar activity was reducing. Solar activity over the last 60 odd years IS generally reducing. This should be accompanied by a reduction in global warming, it isn't.

The hole in the ozone layer is still there but it is reducing due to an international reduction in use of chloro-fluoro-carbons.

Acid rain was caused by sulphur dioxide and NOx emissions, largely associated with coal burning. Most coal burning has ceased for domestic heating, and at industrial levels scrubbers remove the majority of dangerous chemicals.

Global warming was predicted well over 100 years ago. It's happening.

Ironically, if global warming wasn't happening the pace of change would be slow. It isn't and it's getting faster.

There really isn't an element of fact is your post.

Would you care to share some evidence that contradicts climate change science?

FelicityFlops · 01/08/2023 14:54

I was on holiday on Samos in 1998. Temperatures were 40°c plus and the locals said this was unusual, but not unheard of. It is also not unheard of for temperatures in Spain and southern France to reach 40°c, just as it is not unheard of (and I have experienced this several times) for temperatures in my neck of the woods (central to south-west Germany) to reach 40°c and sometimes even more - I have 2 documented times where the outside temperatures were 43°c and 47°c respectively. It does not last for long and is known as summer!
However, the wildfires are definitely nothing to do with the climate and were 99% caused by humans either deliberately or accidentally. I think people need to get things in perspective.
In addition I did my A levels in 1976, when temperatures in southern England were over 30°c. We were happy to go to Europe on holiday for some slightly cooler weather!!!

midgetastic · 01/08/2023 15:02

Wildfires are often cause by humans
But how they then spread and how difficult they are to control is due to climate change

midgetastic · 01/08/2023 15:04

People are starting to count how many thousands die as a result of heat - about 3000 in the uk last year

13 year old girl in japan recently on her way home from school

Where they estimate over a thousand more deaths per year now compared to the 1970s

Yes people cope but when people get upset at one death they seem to be able to have any empathy when we talk thousands of people

Pretty sure you called people dimwits, so yep standing by the statement you are stupid

Amazing how u forgot that. Selective thinking

AmaraTamara · 07/08/2023 13:59

You know, granny olive, if you are a granny indeed, you'll be gone when we and our children are left dealing with your ignorance, your piles of physical and metaphorical rubbish wrecking this planet. Dont worry though, You'll not be forgotten, you'll be remembered, as textbook examples of how stupid you've behaved, how stubborn you were, what deniers of facts and evidence you were, for your own pleasure not wanting to change anything and didn't give a damn about the new generations. If we survive, Your selfishness and stupidity will be used as how not to behave stories for ages to come.

The people that talk about climate change the most; Prince Harry, celebrities, King Charles and politicians are the ones with the highest carbon emissions.
If they really believed in the dreadful effects why don’t any of them adjust their lifestyles and stop using private jets and living in huge houses?
Councils and Sadiq Khan bleat on about it but they can’t chop down trees and rip up hedges fast enough. They just use their faux concern to make money and exert control with 15 minute cities.
All the net zero hysterics are anti nature, paving the countryside with solar panels and chopping down trees to put up wind turbines.
None of them care about wildlife and nature at all. It’s a big con.

I think that may be a you problem. The people I hear talking about climate change the most are climate scientists and disaster scenario experts. Try improving your news sources.

Actually @GreekDogRescue has a point, in the MSM, you wont hear too much about Prof X on Climate change but you will hear from KC, Attenborough etc etc people who have spent their entire lives travelling around the world but tell us not too, its completely hypocritical.

Our Parish & County Council's have Climate Emergency committees, the leading lights on both have recently built several very nice 4/5 bed houses, not ones locals need, they also have AirBnB's encouraging people to travelling up n down the country to visit every few days.
Another, big into ER, has turned an old wooden and galvanised shed into what is basically a house (planning was for a replacement shed) using huge amounts of concrete ... all ok.

Of course CC is real and we are responsible but being told what to do by people who carry on as before, wont win over the general population.

I’m afraid you make my point for me.
Climate change hysteria is mainly propagated by holier-than-thou middle class types who instead of engaging genuinely with the problem, think it acceptable to make ad hom attacks and in the case of JSO, harass working-class people trying to get to work.

it doesn’t help the cause to be lectured by gas-guzzling do-gooders many of whom have a carbon footprint the size of the moon.

I spend so much of my life wrangling with bien pensant types at institutions who wring their hands about climate change while they stealthily and systematically destroy nature.

I suspect I have rather wider news sources than you; at any rate rather more diverse than the BBC and its self-appointed ‘disaster scenario experts’ lol (hello Professor Ferguson🥴) and Marianna Spring’s ludicrous ‘misinformation unit’.

sleepwouldbenice · 08/08/2023 15:42

You lost me at hysteria

Your main news sources being you tube and the light I imagine

ohtobeme · 08/08/2023 18:19

Yes educated climate scientists tend to be middle class , Because part of the definition of class is education level

It's not a bad thing though. It's quite bizarre that education and knowledge is seen as something shameful. Pride in ignorance ?

The climate scientists I know all seem to have total carbon footprints much much lower than the UK average and are not typically driving around in gas guzzlers. They are more likely to be vegans who cycle most places.

they are increasingly terrified that other people , those lovely honest hard working working class innocents you appear to suggest , are effectively destroying their own futures and using class politics to smear those people who are trying to stop things getting worse

Actually those "innocents ", climate change deniers like yourself , are not your standard working class person.

Those climate scientists won't be able to help you when your home is under water and your child dead from heat exhaustion but you will probably still blame those nasty middle class bogey men for the result of your short term thinking.

I don't get my disaster scenario work from the BBC, I get it from people with financial skin in the game.

AmaraTamara · 08/08/2023 19:54

I really can’t understand this aversion towards scientists and how it relates to class and why this is a bad thing. Yes many scientists are middle class people. So? They are spending their time doing science - factual, evidence gathering research, analysis, publishing results, trying to communicate them. Climate scientists are not spending their time conspiring against the working class people. They are presenting evidence, projections, simulating and hypothesising potential solutions. They are not your enemies. Most climate scientists I know, are cycling, vegans, and practicing what they say, because evidence clearly suggests this is best for the environment. One I have recently met is trying to figure out how certain kinds of pollution triggers warming, and how warming results in this pollutant being released into the atmosphere in a self-reinforcing cycle. She spends her days in the lab, and gathering data from around the world, putting them in mathematical models seeing how it can be stopped and what effects it will have on us if it cannot be. She is not sitting down and devising devious ways to kill off the working class. She hasn’t chopped a tree and doesn’t live in a mansion burning gas day to night as far as I know. She is an asset to this country and instead of thanking these people they are looked upon by suspicion by some morons. While the world is burning. I despair.

If it's anything like up the road in France the reason for the apparently slightly more relaxed attitude in Spain might be down national media coverage, plus in some areas forest fires and all that goes with them has been an annual event for decades plus.

Stories such as the Rhodes fires certainly were covered for a day or two but there hasn't been the tendency to plaster the front pages with headlines such as "Europe on Fire", simply because most of Europe wasn't.

100% this. All those I know are also ill with the stress of having to convince really stupid people of the reality of the catastrophe that is starting to unfold. Some of you need to stop parroting lines you're hearing in a media that is gearing up to turn climate adaptation into the next Brexity divisive issue and realise that you are almost entirely ignorant on the research and therefore should Stfu.
