Not being "feminine" does not make me any less female

orangeleavesinautumn · 14/07/2023 07:36

I have no boobs, short hair, men's clothes, no make up, very little jewellery etc.

But I am 100% female.

So don't ask me my pronouns. You can see I am a woman

Why are you wearing mens clothes. Sorry but I just don't get it.

again.

more pockets

cheaper

better fit with no boobs

Why should those clothes be classed as "men's" when they suit many women far better than most women's clothes

@Viviennemary because she likes those clothes? Because they suit her? Because they reflect her personality? Because they are practical? Because clothes are bits of fabric sewn together and no type of clothing requires a certain set of genitalia?!

EddieMunsen · 14/07/2023 15:37

You don't 'get' that clothes traditionally made for men may actually be more comfortable and appealing than stuff designed to make women feel feminine?

You might need to try harder.

Quite right. Works the other way too, there's a man at my work who sometimes wears long cotton skirts in summer as he finds them more comfortable than trousers in summer. Makes perfect sense to me.

ilovesooty · 14/07/2023 15:24

So in what context were you "asked"?

I would like to know this as well. I know it's talked about all over the place, and I do see it online and in a few signatures through my work, but I have never been asked for my pronouns, nor can think of anyone who has been asked in RL.
Where is it happening?

I see you are a teacher, OP. Are you being asked in your professional life?

I'm 5'9 and have shoulders that span 20 inches.
The average female shoulder width is 14 inches.
I have size 9 feet.
My inside leg is 34 inches
The average for women is between 30 and 32 inches.

I wear womens Levis because they do a long length. If im lazing about, I wear 501s.

Womens tops are a write off for me because they are designed for hobbits.

Not sure why you think you should "get" anybody else's clothing preferences.

Are you a good swimmer?

Off to measure my shoulder span - it's not something I've ever considered.

Verv · 14/07/2023 16:19

Hah, yes I was decent actually!
Big wingspan and flippers :)

not in my school, there was some discussion last year about whether we should have pronouns in emails, but thankfully that was voted down.

In the last few months I have been asked my pronouns at medical appointments, at support groups and on training days.

EddieMunsen · 14/07/2023 16:25

I think the way forward when asked is to say that the question is offensive. A pushback on this madness.

If you are not sure if someone is male and female just wait until they speak. That'll almost certainly sort out the confusion.

Can I say I don't have any? I prefer 'Literal/ Literal's'? Individual pronouns taken to the extreme.

I have to say I've never been asked for mine.

Probably a policy to ensure they don't upset people. Some people take offence easily.

So much more comfortable!

Do they ask everyone at the latter two or just you? If it's just you, and also at the medical appointments I think if I was you I'd be giving them a hard stare and asking them why on earth they're asking you.

EmeraldFox · 14/07/2023 17:42

orangeleavesinautumn · 14/07/2023 08:16

why would they? I am a woman

I've had 'sir', and like you I don't conform to sex stereotypes but I'm obviously female. Both asking for pronouns and missexing are worth complaining about!

mycatcontrolsmewith5g · 14/07/2023 17:46

Always been a wee bit more butch in appearance than femme, I occasionally get called sir. I really don't give a flying f---- if they do misgender me, its no different than getting my name wrong which also happens a fair bit. I'm just offended by that at all.

I like the Alison Bechdel quote: 'I fought hard to be a she and I'm keeping it that way'

I'm every bit a woman as Barbie or the equivalent.

mycatcontrolsmewith5g · 14/07/2023 17:46

I mean not offended obvs

mycatcontrolsmewith5g · 14/07/2023 17:47

If someone asks me my pronouns I say ma'am.
Not sure if that's pronoun but never mind.

Viviennemary · 14/07/2023 15:31

Why are you wearing mens clothes. Sorry but I just don't get it.

I often find them a better fit, I'm a 10 chest and 6 hips so women's tops are two sizes too wide at the bottom. A men's small is much better. Trousers have decent pockets. Items are generally thicker, better quality, more durable.

mycatcontrolsmewith5g · 14/07/2023 17:55

Mens clothes fit some women better than womens clothes. I'm surprised this is even questionned tbh

Ididntknowuntiliknew · 14/07/2023 17:55

Sharing pronouns is for people who want to be the topic of every conversation.
If I'm not going to talk about you, I don't need them.
If you share pronouns, my interest dramatically wanes.

It's an interesting paradox.

Follie · 14/07/2023 18:00

😂😂😂

Hobbits with flat chests apparently! I will never understand why oh why clothes designers don’t realise if you are a size 22 on top you are quite likely to have a fair amount of nork!

WallaceinAnderland · 14/07/2023 18:09

Saw this today and it seems appropriate here

Not being "feminine" does not make me any less female
Baldieheid · 14/07/2023 18:35

I buy mens t shirts as they have longer bodies and arms, and so do I! Women's tees barely scrape the bottom of my boobs once they've been washed a couple of times. Im not spending £10 more for half a tee shirt, ffs.

Mens tees are made of better fabric, in better colours. Mens tees don't twist at the side seams. Mens tees are often cheaper, despite being better.

Ditto Mens fleeces.
