Colleague reported me to RSPCA

Not sure what to do with this one…..
I work for a big company and have been taking my dog to work with me
this week as my usual dog
walker is away. We’re in north Scotland so It’s not hot, I leave all the car windows open 1/3 way and come out hourly to check on her, offer water and a wee and walk her in my lunch hour.
oddly (to me) yesterday a colleague from a different department I don’t know at all was standing by
my car when I came for one the checks-
she told me she was reporting me for leaving my dog in the car all day, that I was an idiot and that I should be ashamed. I was so shocked I didn’t say anything, and today Found a note on my windscreen at the end of the day from RSPCA to say they’d had a welfare call about a dog locked in the car, they’d come and found her calm with windows open and had a chat with her thru the open window (?!) and were satisfied she was well cared for and NFA.

do I just leave it at that? Or try and find the name of the women who reported me and complain on basis of her being so rude? It all just seems so odd.

You are an idiot. I hope that kind woman is on Mumsnet.

Kind? Shouting at people calling them idiots? Aha.

Dogs in vans with their owners are not alone for the majority of the day. Their owners are in and out of the van with them.

jennyjones198080 · 13/07/2023 23:01

I am sur ask wine has linked this already. But the minute you complain to HR your colleague will show your employer the RSPCA advice on dogs in cars.

I assume the Scottish equivalent follows the same advice.

you will not be showing yourself in a good light to your employer if you carry on with this complaint

I can only
imagine Their reaction then … ok so call animal welfare then as it’s not a police matter 🙄

Apparently though, none of that applies because it wasn't hot...

Correct, not hot here. Rarely hot here.

When I came out to do a check she was hovering by my car, very angry and shouted that I was an idiot and she was reporting me - it was odd behaviour given my dog was calm and everything else I’ve already mentioned. It was the verbal insult that made me wonder if I should report it was all🤷‍♀️

Your behaviour is odd. I hope the RSPCA see this thread and prosecute you.

FlemishHorse · 13/07/2023 23:03

That sounds perfectly fine to me. If there was a real concern the RSPCA person would have raised it.

I’ve had many various happy dogs for 45 years, and I get a bit pissed off with people who’ve fashionably acquired a new Darling Dog and learned everything from Facebook tell me what I’m doing wrong.

wobblymum1 · 13/07/2023 23:04

Anyway, thanks
to helpful comments! I’ll keep note from welfare officer in case she needs
to see it or if it needs taken further. I’m off to take dog for her pre-
bed walk now.

I chat to dogs through car windows when I pass them in car parks, only if the owners not there of course. I wouldn't want to come across as weird or anything 😳

She probably needs it after being stuck in a small space all day.

I mean given their welfare officer is happy I think this is literally impossible, also that they hang out reading mumsnet 🤷‍♀️

People like you should not have dogs. You don't leave the dog in a car all day, even if the weather is pretty abysmal in Scotland right now!

PoseyFlump · 13/07/2023 23:05

@wobblymum1 how have you found a way to control the sun? You might not think it's hot but if the sun is out, even briefly, it'll get hot in that car if this was true, which I highly doubt.

SoShallINever · 13/07/2023 23:06

Well, had you enabled voting, I would imagine the majority of people would think you are being unreasonable, however I don't think you really want to know that, I think you just want a bun fight.

It was taken seriously. There were also many normal people around the car worried about the dog.

What on Earth is a bun fight?!
Definitely don’t want any fighting or aggression! Hence reason for my post!

I'm lost as to why you posted on aibu

You obviously have decided that you're not despite the vast majority of people saying you are.

I don't like dogs and even I wouldn't leave one in a car all day. Every time you came back the poor bugger would have been excited at the prospect of a walk/going home but no you just kept getting its hopes up and disappearing again.

Soapyspuds · 13/07/2023 23:08

Are you for real?
You cause suffering to an animal and want to complain about the person that reported you?

I would tell you what I think of you. But I like being part of this forum.

Attention seeking behaviour. Very sad.

Not at
top of Scotland. Main risk is rain coming in car window- it’s not hot in my car but I still have all windows open in case!

On my heavens - did your read the webpage - even if it doesn’t feel hot the car can get very warm. Even in the shade. 22 degrees - car can each over 40 degrees.

i give up. Complain to your employer if you want!!
