Colleague reported me to RSPCA

Not sure what to do with this one…..
I work for a big company and have been taking my dog to work with me
this week as my usual dog
walker is away. We’re in north Scotland so It’s not hot, I leave all the car windows open 1/3 way and come out hourly to check on her, offer water and a wee and walk her in my lunch hour.
oddly (to me) yesterday a colleague from a different department I don’t know at all was standing by
my car when I came for one the checks-
she told me she was reporting me for leaving my dog in the car all day, that I was an idiot and that I should be ashamed. I was so shocked I didn’t say anything, and today Found a note on my windscreen at the end of the day from RSPCA to say they’d had a welfare call about a dog locked in the car, they’d come and found her calm with windows open and had a chat with her thru the open window (?!) and were satisfied she was well cared for and NFA.

do I just leave it at that? Or try and find the name of the women who reported me and complain on basis of her being so rude? It all just seems so odd.

For the leave

Dont know why shed bother. Doesnt seem that much work gets done in this place with people going out for cuddles, cigarettes and standing around cars calling people idiots.

grunttheterrible · 13/07/2023 22:37

Erm reverse?

FuppingEll · 13/07/2023 22:37

Loki64 · 13/07/2023 22:33

Would you like to sit in a car in a car park all day?

My dog likes to eat shit/roll in shit and stare out of the window barking at the wind. We are kind of on different wavelengths tbh. Maybe you and your dog are into the same things but I don't think most people are?

jennyjones198080 · 13/07/2023 22:37

Your colleague was concerned about the welfare of an animal.

if you truly are a responsible pet owner you should be glad someone was concerned to see a dog left in a car all day.

your response to this is odd.

people don’t take owning pets seriously. Leaving a dog in a car for eight hours sounds cruel - no wonder the lady was concerned and bravo to her for acting on that concern.

I would never leave a dog in a car. I don’t even n Ii into the shop on the way home from taking mine out for a walk. I dip him home first - get him cleaned, dried and sorted with water first.

For the leave

Oh sorry I thought you meant did I ask if she could still come despite her saying she couldn’t
😂no, company policy is all leave must be booked a minimum of 4
weeks in advance.

Haven't read the whole thread but not convinced this is real as there's no RSPCA in Scotland?

howdoesyourgardengrowinmay · 13/07/2023 22:37

Going against the grain here.

I don't think you've done anything wrong. Your dog is getting plenty of attention and care from you. RSPCA are satisfied your dog is happy and well cared for.

Ignore the busy body and carry on as you are. No point trying to complain about her.

inappropriateraspberry · 13/07/2023 22:38

How weird. Taking your dog to work for one day, maybe - but all week leaving them sat in the car? I don't blame them for reporting it.

I’m glad you have had good experiences with kennels but in my experience they are horrendous, I’d never leave my dog in any locally & I’ve been to a few places

There definitely are a few bad ones around, people planning to use a kennel should always do a lot of research beforehand.

my kids are in holiday club and are pesky at times yes 😂but generally ok!

Could have saved yourself some money and kept them in the car too, you're checking every hour so it's fine.

purplecorkheart · 13/07/2023 22:38

Op can I ask would you leave your kids in the car for the working week and pop out once a hour?

Dogs die in cars all the time.

let’s not name call people who express concern.

We all work really hard actually and I’ve never had anyone call me an idiot or be abusive before, hence my wondering if I should take it further with HR as it was really unprofessional.

as for smokers- their choice! If they choose to make up the time they spend on a
smoke break i think that’s
ok 🤷‍♀️

I dont think humans or dogs would feel great sitting in a small space in a car park for the whole day.

Dogs die in cars with no windows open 🙄not in a cool climate with hoirly
checks and walks. As the welfare officer was happy to say she’s happy and calm and he’d be taking NFA i dont think shes
at imminent risk of death🙄

I really wouldn't.

presenterspackitinffs · 13/07/2023 22:42

Genuine question- is this meant to be some kind of parallel comedy post to "not illegal but morally wrong"?

Why not find a doggy daycare or another Walker or request wfh or something for the week? It's a dog! We don't leave babies in the car all day just bc we change their nappies and have the a/c on - beyond not killing them, being in a car all day is not appropriate or fair

Simply not killing a dog in a hot car doesn't really mean it's fine if you dont do that bit

She’s not 🤦‍♀️She’s in a large car with a
chew toy, blanket, hourly cuddles and water /biscuit and an hour walk at Lunch!
