Colleague reported me to RSPCA

Not sure what to do with this one…..
I work for a big company and have been taking my dog to work with me
this week as my usual dog
walker is away. We’re in north Scotland so It’s not hot, I leave all the car windows open 1/3 way and come out hourly to check on her, offer water and a wee and walk her in my lunch hour.
oddly (to me) yesterday a colleague from a different department I don’t know at all was standing by
my car when I came for one the checks-
she told me she was reporting me for leaving my dog in the car all day, that I was an idiot and that I should be ashamed. I was so shocked I didn’t say anything, and today Found a note on my windscreen at the end of the day from RSPCA to say they’d had a welfare call about a dog locked in the car, they’d come and found her calm with windows open and had a chat with her thru the open window (?!) and were satisfied she was well cared for and NFA.

do I just leave it at that? Or try and find the name of the women who reported me and complain on basis of her being so rude? It all just seems so odd.

I'm in the North of Scotland and there were long periods of the day today where it was roasting! I got in the car and the seat and steering wheel were really hot, had to drive about with the windows open initially to let the heat out. Poor dog.

Thatboymum · 14/07/2023 01:44

I think you’re lucky the colleague only called you an idiot that should be the least of your concerns. You obviously don’t want to accept that what you’re doing is cruel. For context I’m north of Scotland and no way in hell would I leave my dog in the car all day with a window open rite now your vile. I’ve watched police attend something like this before and the owner was only gone about 40 mins windows were open and the police smashed the windows to rescue it. Hope this happens to you and I hope the colleague does call the spca again so they can see how many days this dogs left in the car and for how long and it’s not just a one off for an hour! Also you are putting your dog at risk of theft and your car insurance also won’t be valid if the windows open

wobblymum1 · 14/07/2023 01:47

I will only say one last
time it’s real. Mumsnet can verify.

I was only
open about my challenges when being laughed at by other posters.

For those who think organisations bigger than a small one don’t exist in N Scotland that’s just absurd.

i stand by my
decision to take care
of my dog well in my car, well ventilated, this week as an alternative to leaving her in my small flat with no window open. SPCA agreed with this following my colleague’s report. End of.

it’s now becoming a
thread about my physical and mental health and I can’t put myself through that.

if any of the posters want to verify I’m real please feel free, I’ve nothing to hide.

thanks to those genuinely helpful.

On my heavens - did your read the webpage - even if it doesn’t feel hot the car can get very warm. Even in the shade. 22 degrees - car can each over 40 degrees.

i give up. Complain to your employer if you want!!

i

For the (6th) time-
12 degrees. max. Nowhere near 22. With windows down enough to let in air and Parked in shade. car did not feel warm at any point, my entire point of check ins hourly. Fairly sure SPCA officer felt inside car with his hand. I give up!

Aren’t you a charmer 🙄
fairly sure if
welfare officer had any concerns they’d have smashed windows? Or less dramatically popped into reception to ask who owner vehicle reg XXX.
and they didn’t as she was….fine.
enjoy your time watching your police rescues

Then clearly not in my area, the North of Scotland isn’t a village 🙄

You are clearly over tired. Go to sleep. When you wake up hopefully it will be with a new round sense of right and wrong.

wafflyversatile · 14/07/2023 01:56

I'm sure your colleague was just looking out for your dog. Better to report if you have concerns than leave it.

You know your dog better than posters here and sspca checked on your dog, unlike any posters here, and they were happy with the situation so don't worry about it.

I do not believe that anyone from the north of Scotland doesn’t know where Caithness is.

I’ll say it again - the only place in Scotland which was 12 degrees at 12 o clock yesterday was Stornoway (you said you aren’t there) and the only SSPCA location “as far north as you can go” is Caithness (you said you aren’t there)

You are also somehow unable to lay a piece of paper on top of another piece of paper and take a photo.

You’re sweet. Have you missed that temperatures vary within general weather map areas? Do you know how specific Stornaway is? oh wait, you’re not in Scotland are
you 🫢
and think I covered the photo idea a
a while back, you can find it yourself.

Map of spca locations. It’s verrrry clear which one is “as far north as you can go”

Which is Caithness, a place op has never even heard of.

It’s not the only place, no. But it is the only place with an SSPCA location in northern Scotland isn’t it?

what I actually said I’d get some help with that tomorrow from a colleague, you have a wonderfully selective memory along with your snidely helpful Suggestions.
we both know from previous threads you aren’t Scottish and I am certainly not telling you what island or part of mainland I’m on! your extreme interest is a bit weird now.

you need a colleague to help you lay paper on top of a letter to hide someone’s name? Surely not? I do not believe anyone who is unable to place a small piece of paper on top of a larger one works in any sort of office based environment.

Can we confirm that this note definitely says “RSPCA/SSPCA” on it?

Please find me evidence of me being not Scottish? I am Scottish - I’ve literally never communicated with you before today, this is a recent username for me, so I think you really do need new reading glasses!

I might not be charming but I’m also not a dog neglecter 🙂Would you leave your kids in the car for 8 hours a day if childcare fell through and do you think social work would say it’s ok tho cause you left a window open. Doubt it very much and your poor dog should be no different I don’t believe for a second they were not concerned and actually knew this dog was in there for like 42 hours

Twelveisthebestnumber · 14/07/2023 02:49

I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an ass of yourself.

AngelAurora · 14/07/2023 03:19

Good for your colleague, poor dog.

AngelAurora · 14/07/2023 03:21

wobblymum1 · 13/07/2023 22:13

can I ask you to explain why? I’m genuinely confused
as she’s well cared for, it’s a one off
week of coming to work with me and staying in the car where
she
is cool and calm and has hourly
cuddles from me and an hour walk at lunchtime, even the welfare
officer said she was calm and all ok- so with how rude she was I don’t see how she is being the only sensible one?

Are you always this thick? 🙄🙄

squishee · 14/07/2023 03:39

...have been taking my dog to work with me

You haven't though. You've been taking it to be cooped up in a car. With regular breaks and cuddles yada yada, but it is still cooped up in a car most of the time.
