To Smoke Weed And Work For The NHS?

155 replies

YellowSharpsBin · 13/07/2023 11:56

If you knew someone who worked in Administration for the NHS and found out they smoked week (at weekends) would you find this wrong?

YABU - This is wrong. They shouldn’t be smoking weed whilst they are employed by the NHS.

YANBU - This is perfectly okay.

I would think less of you.

JamSandle · 14/07/2023 17:34

Wouldn't bother me at all.

crazeekat · 14/07/2023 17:34

Bit like reading comments on MN like yours then 😂

To be honest, you should be more worried about the junior doctors.

I used to party with a bunch of them... I can only assume they aren't drug tested very often cos they were up to their eyeballs in coke and MDMA most weekends...

I'm not a fan of potheads, but would probably dabble in the occassional joint if I didn't have kids in the house. I know a few who smoke far too much and a lot who also drive under the influence without second thought. I wish they'd grow a strain that doesn't stink.

@SleeplessinScarbourough
I wouldn’t want anyone who smokes weed to work anywhere. Thankfully most of them don’t

I smoke weed (once a night and for a reason, however I'm not going to justify my actions to a narrow minded, pious oik). I am a company director, providing a service in an industry which I can pretty much guarantee you've had use of at some point in your life, and will continue to require in the future.

But you think I shouldn't work. Wanna inform Companies House and have me removed?

Your a director and use words like "Wanna" sure 😂

@Superpinkflowerpower

Apologies, it appears I have my tongue wedged in the side of my cheek again.

Just get a prescription OP.
Takes away the ethical questions (although I appreciate many people can grow their own or buy from a friend meaning no ethical issues) from people and any potential risks from your current or future employees.

It is a wonderful medicine and has many great benefits specifically for women.

I agree. If you can't afford a prescription but meet the criteria for one, you can get a Cancard (Google if you are interested).

TBH I am against weed full stop. Doesn’t matter what job you do. You are contributing towards finding criminal activity. Plus, it’s pretty gross and anti-social

MissPop · 15/07/2023 16:15

@WeetabixTowels

Totally agree. Disgusting habit.

for the umpteenth time🙄
it's very easy to obtain cannabis legally on prescription, or grow it yourself

Yes but how many people do that vs obtaining it illegally?

I dont know but there are several companies offering private prescriptions so there must be enough business to keep them in business

WeetabixTowels · 15/07/2023 17:14

People want to smoke a joint from their cheap dealer they don’t want a private prescription

I see you've done extensive research so I bow to your superior knowledge🙄

WeetabixTowels · 15/07/2023 17:18

Google tells me that the average cannabis prescription is £150-£200pcm after a £70 consultation. That’s a lot compared to street weed. You are utterly deluded if you think cannabis users are going to fork out more and be delighted to make a morally conscious choice. From the persistent users I know, all of them are self centred ultra paranoid arseholes with barely a scrap of moral fibre. They don’t care their rank habit funds sex crimes and crimes against children. You can kid yourself all you want but in the real world, we are drug users for what they are.

OK then show me research to say private prescriptions are putting g street dealers out of business.

bumblebee2903 · 15/07/2023 17:20

Well.. I think weed stays in the system a while.. so if they were pulled over and tested driving they would lose their licence. But a weekend user might not be so bad?

Be more concerned if it was daily usage and they were a surgeon 😅

My partner use to smoke weed, had to quit and wait a few weeks for it to leave system and not test positive for his work.

WeetabixTowels · 15/07/2023 17:22

You also have to have a medical reason even for a private prescription and prescribers will want proof of your GP notes. That’s way too much hassle and waiting for addicts who can get their hit by calling Skinny Ray (or whoever scumbag dealer they know) and having it delivered in less than 10 minutes.

Im not saying all cannabis users are like this, many do it for medicinal/pain purposes and have a prescription. I don’t have a problem with that. But let’s not pretend the average cannabis user is just a lovely middle aged lady trying to get some pain relief for her arthritis.

WeetabixTowels · 15/07/2023 17:25

YellowSharpsBin · 13/07/2023 13:10

It’s different in the sense there a less deaths from weed consumption compared to alcohol and cigarettes.

However there’s a big moral and ethical debate over the supply of weed.

There’s certainly fewer deaths directly attributed to cannabis. But the long term MH problems that WILL result in death aren’t counted. The deaths from sex traffic victims, abused children and human trafficking victims that are funded through drugs aren’t taken into account either. It would be interesting to know the true number but I do roll my eyes at the faux ‘gotcha’ of wEeD DoESnT CauSe DeaThs

MissyB1 · 15/07/2023 17:29

Be careful that your colleagues can't smell it on you. I guesss you assume they can't? I worked with a HCA who smoked it at a weekend, on Monday morning she still stank of it. A manager had a firm word with her in the end, and she decided to leave not long after.

WeetabixTowels · 15/07/2023 17:30

To answer the OP - having worked for the NHS I know that employees are held to a high standard even outside of work. I wouldn’t shout about it if I were you to be on the safe side.

MissPop · 15/07/2023 21:20

I know two weed dealers who have done it for around 20 years. Never been caught. Have bought big houses outright (via money laundering businesses). The equity they’ve made has gone on to fund other avenues of crime.

Who cares though hey? As long as you get your HaRmLeSS Fixxxx HuN.
