To Smoke Weed And Work For The NHS?

YellowSharpsBin · 13/07/2023 11:56

If you knew someone who worked in Administration for the NHS and found out they smoked week (at weekends) would you find this wrong?

YABU - This is wrong. They shouldn’t be smoking weed whilst they are employed by the NHS.

YANBU - This is perfectly okay.

I don't smoke weed but I don't think it's any worse than drinking or eating unhealthily. People who work for the NHS aren't expected to live like monks.

Smoking, drinking and eating unhealthily are not illegal but smoking weed is; a fact which seems to have escaped the cool posters on here.

PearlClutzsche · 13/07/2023 18:23

And monks enjoy a good bevvy too!

eggsbenedict23 · 13/07/2023 18:48

Why is weed illegal?

Qilin · 13/07/2023 18:57

If they were working, and driving to and from work, whilst under the influence I'd judge. I'm always a little Hmm about drug use anyway. The whole industry behind illegal drugs is awful.

If someone turned up to work under the influence of alcohol I would judge too, despite alcohol being legal.

NewName122 · 13/07/2023 19:01

Can think of 3 off the top of my head. Sure I know more. Lots of NHS jobs. Yabu. I don't like weed but loads do.

Jk987 · 13/07/2023 19:03

If they're a brain surgeon then it wouldn't be ideal. Otherwise it's up to them how they manage their own health.

NewName122 · 13/07/2023 19:03

Ohhh it is you op! You've done nothing wrong. Your friend is silly.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 13/07/2023 19:07

I worked for the NHS for over 20 years and believe me there lots that smoke weed on their days off.
It's a risk due to random drug testing but in my opinion it's no worse than drinking alcohol 🤷‍♀️

Radiodread · 13/07/2023 19:22

I don’t think the job is significant unless it’s driving or operating dangerous machinery, life-saving or involving care for children or vulnerable people.

if your job involves filing, record keeping or remembering where you put things being a heavy smoker could make those tasks more challenging i’d imagine ;)

my main objection is the ethical problems, which derive from its illegality rather than anything intrinsic to the drug.

Your family member would be shocked to hear what the consultants get up to in their free time, then

I agree!!

The big difference is that most people refuse to acknowledge is that you have ZERO idea the strength of the weed you are smoking and what the limits are to when you are going to drive or work again as its not regulated.

Drinking is strictly regulated and you have a pretty dam good idea how much you can drink before you can drive/work and how long to leave it before you do so.

This is nonsense, it's very easy to find out the strength of any particular strain of cannabis and if you're not sure you just have a tiny amount and see how it feels, THC levels are typically between 10 and 20% most of them around 15 to 16.

Well I never knew the local dealer gave you information booklets when buying weed. 😂

Why is weed illegal?

Possibly in part because it's very easy to grow itself and that makes it difficult for large corporations to capture all of the profits.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 14/07/2023 12:24

I’d judge you for smoking weed because it fucking stinks and you stink of it.

Couldnt give two flying shits who you work for.

From a fellow NHS admin 😆.

Furnitureelf · 14/07/2023 12:25

As long as not working under the effects then not my business....I say this as an NHS worker and anti drugs.

OneTC · 14/07/2023 12:27

Wouldn't bother me at all.

Also saying weed is illegal is a presumption now, rather than a fact. It can be legally obtained and you will not know who has and who hasn't

How can someone who works in the NHS condone child slavery?

Then you also condone child slavery if you buy mass produced clothes and/or toys, household stuff, many foods, shoes, bags, trinkets on holidays, and you also condone anything politicians do if you pay tax.

Qilin · 14/07/2023 15:48

How long do the effects of weed last for? How long is it in your system?

Marital rape was legal at one point, your point is?

Onesailwait · 14/07/2023 16:58

They should just hurry up & legalize cannabis in the UK. I think a lot of people are put off by the smoking it element. I use cannabis daily but never really smoke it. I can pop along to my local dispensary and pick up some gummies, chocolate, soft drinks , tea, bath bombs, body balm. No smell to any of those, so it doesn't impact anyone around me. My mum has RA, started using a Thc balm during the day and takes an indica gummie or tea before bed, and it's really been a massive help. I see my cannabis use as the same as my friends who have a glass of wine in the evening.

Onesailwait · 14/07/2023 17:01

Why would you delete my post. I live In BC Canada where its absolutely legal and I was explaining the different ways it can be used and how it can benefit people

Pearlsaminga · 14/07/2023 17:21

Qilin · 14/07/2023 15:48

How long do the effects of weed last for? How long is it in your system?

vaped or smoked a few hours or so, edible cannabis, it's converted to a longer acting cannabinoid by the liver
even so if you are careful with the dose it's possible for most people to use an edible at night to help them relax & sleep more easily and not be at all intoxicated the next day

Pearlsaminga · 14/07/2023 17:22

there is no hangover with weed, you have not been poisoned like you have when you take alcohol
