To Smoke Weed And Work For The NHS?

YellowSharpsBin · 13/07/2023 11:56

If you knew someone who worked in Administration for the NHS and found out they smoked week (at weekends) would you find this wrong?

YABU - This is wrong. They shouldn’t be smoking weed whilst they are employed by the NHS.

YANBU - This is perfectly okay.

I mean your not patient facing.

However I know plenty of nhs staff who love abit of wacky backy and are patient facing.
What they do in their own time is up to them.

I personally don't, personally can not stand it. I work for the NHS, but I don't judge my colleagues for it in the slightest along as they are not coming in high its really none of my business- neither is it your relatives

cuckyplunt · 13/07/2023 12:51

You

DoctorWoo · 13/07/2023 12:51

I think it was quite clear from the OP that she was specifically asking if people thought it was an issue based on her working for the NHS

Yes, of course it was it was based on working for the NHS, but there was no mention of the health aspect or an assumption of an obligation to stay healthy if employed by them.

Some may object to illegality because an NHS worker is a public servant, in a position of trust and, generally, in a public facing role.

jays · 13/07/2023 12:52

Posted too soon! It depends on whether it’s seen as wrong because it’s illegal or wrong for other reasons. So is it wrong because A. they’re breaking the law? Or B. because they’re stoned?

crostini · 13/07/2023 12:52

I know plenty of doctors who smoke weed or do other drugs. I never even thought about it until now.

Quite @jays
There are various reasons why some may find this objectionable.

Orangebadger · 13/07/2023 13:01

Nope would not bother me at all. Only time it would bother me was if it was happening while they were at work. But not in their own time.

Does everyone think we're all pure saints just because we work in the NHS?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 13/07/2023 13:05

NHS is irrelevant. Weed is illegal/on the fringes; I don't care. Don't involve other people in your habit in any way and you're golden.

YellowSharpsBin · 13/07/2023 13:08

AgnesX · 13/07/2023 12:44

I couldn't care less where people work...there's nothing intrinsically special about being admin staff for the NHS over anywhere else.

That said weed is a filthy habit and really oughtn't to be encouraged.

Where did I say it was special?

What makes weed any different to alcohol or cigarettes?

It’s different in the sense there a less deaths from weed consumption compared to alcohol and cigarettes.

However there’s a big moral and ethical debate over the supply of weed.

I wouldn’t want anyone who smokes weed to work anywhere. Thankfully most of them don’t

Categorically not true 🙄

I appreciate that. That’s why I was asking.

why would I care?

eggsbenedict23 · 13/07/2023 12:40

Weed might smell yes. But surely if it affects you, just spray some febreeze?

Haha febreeze!!

It won't mask the weed smell unfortunately

eveoha · 13/07/2023 13:21

Obviously a huge number of regular high potency (30%) THC tokers on Mumsnet - and it’s addled what grey matter you had - who would in their right mind would want to be ‘dealt with’ in any capacity by someone who may be in an altered state of consciousness - also v concerning the lack of appreciation of long term effects of THC WEED GANJA whatever you fools euphemistically choose to call it - solipsism at it finest 👍🏿🙏🏽

fireflyloo · 13/07/2023 13:23

I know several people who take cocaine and weed a few times a month and they're a head teacher, teacher, biologist and accountant. I wouldn't bat an eyelid at an nhs administrator. Obviously anyone coming coming into work under the influence is wrong though.

PineappleRumble · 13/07/2023 13:26

Wouldn't bother me at all tbh. Weed is certainly no worse than alcohol.

As an aside, some of the biggest recreational drug takers I've ever known were medical students. I think many people are ignorant of how commonplace recreational drug use is...

This. Bunch of losers smoking weed (unless for medicinal purposes).

HAVEnotOF · 13/07/2023 13:35

I wouldn’t care a jot.

AgnesX · 13/07/2023 13:37

YellowSharpsBin · 13/07/2023 13:08

Where did I say it was special?

Didn't say you did but you made a point of mentioning it. My point was someone's employer is a side issue

AccidentallySuckedTheStrippersDick · 13/07/2023 13:38

@Pearlsaminga

Weed is not legal. Yes you can get it on prescription. But that's medicinal, not recreational. It is not legal for recreational drugs. Abortion is not legal, it is only available on prescription after being aged by two DRs that it is justified for health reasons. Neither of these things are LEGAL for recreational purposes and the simple truth is that seeking and Uber taking either or both, without medical consent, can land you in prison in the uk.

OooohAhhhh · 13/07/2023 13:42

I don't think it's anyone's business.
I know a Doctor who smokes & school teachers that smoke weed. Is it wrong? Who knows? Is it any of my business? No.
