This is already in the public domain .

I see a lot of negative comments about police and some of it , rightly so.

But this sums up for me what the job is about .
And why normal everyday men and women , like me , join the police service .

The bravery shown here is commendable .

Thanks for taking the time to watch .

I never see a policeman so don't really know what they do.
Round here they may not come out even for a murder.
There do seem to rather a lot of rapists, perverts and murderers in the police.
Not to mention institutional racism, misogyny and homophobia.

Your second line is ridiculous and I don’t believe it for a second.

Trust me - the police would come out for a murder . And much less .

I hardly thin using the term kiddy porn is akin to taking photos of murder victims and sharing them .

I've railed against the dinosaurs I came up against in the job . I've reported wrong doing if I've seen it . My language may be - decisive - but in my work I can hand in heart say I've always been empathetic, kind , neutral and did my best .

I have over the years given a lot of support and advice to people on here , which I now choose not to do because it's too fraught . I name change every couple of weeks and now I've outed myself I will again .

I relate to the people in my community and I've done some great work for domestic violence victims, victims of sexual assault and abuse and rape . I dont really care what a bunch of strangers think of my use of language.

I know in my heart I've done a lot for victims because of my common sense approach and my willingness to empathise and listen . If that doesn't come across here then that's fine .

But noone is attacking you. If you have upheld moral and legal standards and treated people humanely I don't know why you feel so personally attacked. I don't blame you for the way I was treated. The only thing I have questioned is that not everyone is like you say you are and my experience (and others on the thread) suggest noone they experienced was like you say you are. So how do you expect us to champion you all as an institution of good when that isn't our experience personally?

Horrox · 12/07/2023 23:43

OK, OP, I hear you about the positive contributions you believe you personally have made. In that context how can you begin to justify this quite astounding claim:
The police are least of your worries in a rape case

One of my dance friends is a copper. She went into policing after over a decade in social work. I have no doubt that she will be a credit to her profession and do a lot of good. But this doesn't negate the points I and others have made about distrusting the police as an institution and why we distrust them.

I suggested a moratorium on hiring men as a means of busting the frat boy culture that encouraged Couzens and continues to encourage those like him because I believe that the police is still worthy of reformation and retention, not disbanding.

powershowerforanhour · 12/07/2023 23:44

"I've worked in housing for 30 years. Workers I've know have gone through every single thing in that video. Ditto nurses, paramedics and some fire fighters. Social workers, shit even Council employees.

It's rough, it's traumatising, it's dangerous and people in those jobs are brave."

Where I am from:
-Nurses and paramedics, social workers etc, like most of those types of jobs, sometimes get sworn at and occasionally spat at (mental health care workers more than others).
-Firefighters get stoned in certain areas

  • and police officers get all of the above, plus petrol bombs and big lumps of masonry thrown at them on occasion, and sometimes shot. Like DCI Caldwell who was shot multiple times at close range by two gunmen, when he was off duty, in front of children, including his own son, at a football session he had been coaching. He lived, unlike poor Ronan Kerr (who was also in my home town when he suffered the attack- by car bomb- that killed him).
I don't know of any social workers or medics, bar the late great Dr John Hinds, from this neck of the woods who have died at work.

Because the real problem is the cps and courts . That's just the truth .

Court is awful . The cps do not help us get rapes to court.

I've worked with rape victims . I've never had a single instance where I didnt believe the victim . But getting g the jobs to court is a battle with cps first and then the defence are allowed to rip the VIXTIM.to pieces. And that's wrong .

I'm stating facts however unpalatable that might be to read .

Omg .

Really ? Child pornography then . Child sexual exploitation.

Indecent images.

I often use layman's terms .

You also referred to black people as 'coloured' a few weeks ago.

You really don't do yourself or your profession any favours OP.

A fifth of victims who make a police report retract it when faced with the police demanding access to cell phones and medical records. But the real problem is other agencies... Hmm

Horrox · 12/07/2023 23:53

I don't dispute the issues with the CPS and the defence at all, but countless rape survivors describe being let down by the police at every stage.

baggiesmalls · 12/07/2023 23:53

I've got a force award for victim care .
I was embarrassed really but it was nice that a Sgt recognised my work and nominated me.

I got that for a voyeurism case I took and got to court .

I champion women and I go all out for victims of sexual crimes . That was my thing .

OP posts:
baggiesmalls · 12/07/2023 23:54

Who do you think asks for the victims phone ?

The cps.

I think changes are afoot with regard to how rapes are dealt with very soon .

"doesn't mean we shouldn't criticise the genuine abuses of position we have encountered in the police. "

Of course not and it sounds like large bits of some forces plus some individual stations have major cultural problems allowing shittiness to flourish. I still don't think OP was BU to put the video up and I don't think she deserved to have people snarling, "Is that video supposed to excuse all the shittiness then?" within the first few posts.

Tangledbaby · 12/07/2023 23:56

@baggiesmalls You refer to black people as ‘coloured’?

As a black woman this is not correct terminology.

As a police officer serving the public of all races you should know this.

Tell us again how enlightened your own force is?

baggiesmalls · 12/07/2023 23:56

I was raped on a first date in 2014 . Anally raped .

And no I didn't report it . Because of everything you've said here .

I'm now going to
Leave this thread for obvious reasons and name change .

But don't assume to tell me I don't know the issues faced by rape victims .

OP posts:
HereToo · 12/07/2023 23:59

OP you can name change all you like but I've been on Mumsnet for 12 years and every couple of months you've started similar rants threads like this and mostly ended up doing far more harm than good due to your choice of language amongst other things.

We get it, you've got a stressful job but no-one's forcing you to do it and you're not the only one.

Tangledbaby · 13/07/2023 00:01

@baggiesmalls You not going to address the ‘coloured’ terminology before you flee?

Changingmynameyetagain · 13/07/2023 00:02

My local police force let the abuse of children run rampant because they are a useless pile of shit.

My mum was the victim of a hit and run and she is now permanently disabled after being deliberately run over, there was ample cctv of the incident and the driver was identified, did they prosecute? Did they fuck, she wasn’t even arrested, not enough evidence apparently.
I would never ever call the police again.

Radiodread · 13/07/2023 00:06

I don’t know any actual police officers but the ones in that video look pretty courageous and reasonably skilled to me. It wouldn’t be the job for me I don’t think, but I’m very glad some people do sign up for it. Especially black and Asian officers, and women. I do think it’s probably more institutionally sexist and racist than many other workplaces.

BodegaSushi · 13/07/2023 00:10

I name change every couple of weeks and now I've outed myself I will again .

Why do you keep doing it?

Maybe next time stop talking about the same 3 topics ad nauseum.

kittensinthekitchen · 13/07/2023 00:11

Scary video, and good outcome thanks to the officers' actions, but...

the main thing I thought of when watching that video was, sadly, "I wonder just how many times this woman has reported her (probably ex) partner for threatening, stalking and abusive behaviour towards her.

May or may not be relevant in this particular case, but is in many.

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 13/07/2023 00:12

Christ, this poster again 😠

Laughing away here at the " Thank you for your service" grovelling though so thanks for the giggle at least! 😂

baggiesmalls · 13/07/2023 00:20

Ok . I'm going to take a mn break and de register as this isn't a good place for me anymore

This forum helped me through my sons meningitis
His autism diagnosis
His many problems through school college and uni
My tfmr
My relationship struggles
And finally my single life

I've got friends on fb from here . Many of whom don't use this forum anymore because it's become so cut throat .

I'm sorry if I offended anyone.
I'm not here for derision or to poke fun at . This place at times has been a life line to me but that was quite a while ago . I think our relationship has come to an end .

Love and peace
