His wiki page says he’s a Christian and a weekly church goer. Not a great ambassador for them, ah well

I used the word "seems" on purpose. Nothing has been proven but I understand that's what the parents are saying. My meaning was that he may have done something wrong but the Sun has it's own agenda and is using this situation for other ends.

He has resigned

No he hasn’t
that was a mistake announced at the e beginning

I think empathy is needed. His battles with depression are decades long, this could be bipolar or severe depression with erratic behaviour.

NotmyRLname · 12/07/2023 22:16

No crime committed the lawyer said boys parents are talking out their arse. But it goes to show how many married men with wives and kids are gay.

Just what I said - speculation.

I am sorry, but if you have acknowledged and in receipt of medical support for mental health issue's, this is not an excuse. He knows not play this way in the office. It's a choice., A selfish choice. We all need comfort for our sorrows, from time to time, but this is grim. If he was a teacher to a child that age...

I think you should remember that the Church is a hospital for sinners, not a club for saints.

Matthew 7:1-3
King James Version7 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Krustykrabpizza · 12/07/2023 22:34

Since when has being a Christian stopped people being pervs 😂😂

Wait a minute. Huw Edwards has been confirmed as the person accused. He hasn't been confirmed as actually having done anything!

I thought that too - he's the one being talked about, but is it actually him who's done it? But it's been clear from the BBC News at Ten this evening that he's the one who is facing allegations of misconduct, he's been suspended and he's in hospital being treated after a mental health episode.

You post this like it I was to replace the name with John Craven...huw who?

I hope HE keeps his job.

I have had enough of these SM-driven witch-hunts, although in this case The Sun newspaper was to blame. I don't even like George Osborne, but I am opposed to the email that was sent to his wedding guests and widely disseminated via Twitter et al. .

The Sun has proven Harry Windsor is telling the truth about them.

Clive Myrie confirmed on the 10pm news that Huw Edwards is suspended, and has not resigned.

I can't see how he can come back from this and present on the BBC as he did previously; he's lost all credibility.

I expect he'll come out of the mental health facility and sign a compromise agreement with the BBC. There will then be a statement about the BBC and HE mutually agreeing to part ways, thanking him for his contributions and wishing him well in his future endeavours.

I think you're mistaking Church as a Museum of Saints, rather than a Hospital for Sinners.

save the dots - he isn't/wasn't a teacher.

Fozzleyplum · 12/07/2023 22:58

I am not at all comfortable with the song and dance the BBC are making about this in their reporting of the story. It's almost as though they think that going OTT about covering this, will in some way atone for their past failings, in particular on relation to Jimmy Savile.

There is also a clear undercurrent of threatening the Sun.

They need to shut up, and let the lawyers sort out both the investigation into what HE might gave done, and what the Sun might have misreported.

Given the number of stories involving priests/clergy, I don't think Christian church goers are great ambassadors for themselves. At least he fits in with the crowd.

That's a pretty blanket statement that does a great many people a great disservice.

Since when have congregations been responsible for the sins' of the clergy?

As I said further up this thread "Judge that ye be not judged"

LivinDaylights · 12/07/2023 23:05

Crazy how this is being framed "poor Huw, he's a mentally ill christian" how fucked up!!! Is this a get out of jail free card for all the other dirty dogs out there taking advantage of barely legal kids? Ew. Come off it, he's been caught with his pants down (literally) and is playing the mentally ill card. You'd have thought the bbc would have tried to stamp out this sort of thing given their history with other high profile wrong uns. I don't buy the mentally ill nonsense anyway.

Apparently there are complaints about him from colleagues.

Jeez, there's complaints about ME from colleagues!! This means nothing. It happens in the workplace. Difference of opinion coupled with a misunderstanding , she emailed boss to rant about me, copied me in by accident, I apologised, she was mortified, we're all friends and we've moved on. I'm sure there's been others over my 25 yr career. Without context this is useless info.

I'm not shocked his wife named him. Bless her💕! What must she be going through?

I hope she is going through their financial paperwork with a lawyer , an accountant and a fine tooth comb so she walks away with as much as she can carry, and a bit more for the humiliation.

@poetryandwine 100%

The police have concluded no crime has been committed. Whatever has happened (I agree it sounds very messy) is now for HE, his family and the young people associated with all of this to work through and heal.

I’m not sure that ‘there’s no evidence that a crime has been committed’ along with SW police statement that should more evidence come to light they will reopen the investigation is conclusive proof that no crime was committed. He might have broken the law, he might not have done but my guess is whichever way the police would choose their words quite carefully because there’s huge potential for this to come back and bite them on the arse if they are wrong.

TheFormidableMrsC · 12/07/2023 23:15

I am tired of the sympathy and mental health excuses. It's an insult to people who live with that. He's a gay man who has stolen years of his wife's life because he didn't have the courage to come out. I agree that's sad. However, paying addict teenagers for dick pics makes you a revolting pervert even if it's "legal". I feel desperately sad for his wife and children but I have zero sympathy for him.

LadyBird1973 · 12/07/2023 23:16

What shocks me is how much newsreaders are paid!

If someone at the BBC can afford to spunk 35k up the wall, they are being paid too much of our money!

And it's amazing how someone's MH is affected when they get caught doing sleazy shit! My sympathies are with his wife and kids - I bet their mental health isn't that great right now either.
