To be shocked it’s Huw?

His wiki page says he’s a Christian and a weekly church goer. Not a great ambassador for them, ah well

OP posts:

He's also a Leo !!! That explains a lot

🙄🙄 it explains he was born between 23 July - 23 August and literally nothing more.

Honestly this thread is mental

I think that poster is being sarcastic and illustrating how stupid and ludicrous it is to assume Huw did what he did because he is a Christian. Load of shit that is. And utterly offensive. Insert ANY other religion and it would be deleted. Christians seem fair game for attack though. Fucks me right off.

Funny no-one is mentioning that people from other religions are not perfect and commit plenty of SINS themselves. I don't even know where to start with a few religions. I won't say anything though, as I won't lower myself like SOME posters here. Wink

@Zonder

Would you be so sympathetic had he approached your kids ? , Not everyone with depression propositions vulnerable young adults at multiple times .
Yes his situation is sad but depression doesn't give licence to behave anyway you want without repercussions.

Exactly.

gemstoneju · 12/07/2023 19:48

Yes, genuinely shocking. Like finding out the Archbishop of Canterbury has been caught kerb-crawling.

(BTW, I am not in any way suggesting that such a thing has ever occurred before someone reports me.)

CorneyFlower · 12/07/2023 19:53

ZenNudist · 12/07/2023 18:13

Did Huw ever say he was the posterboy for Christianity?

Since when is one human representative of an entire religious denomination?

This.
Also, saying you're a Christian does not mean saying you're perfect.

LaffTaff · 12/07/2023 19:54

nasanas · 12/07/2023 19:40

Since when did being a church goer make someone an ambassador?

Is that not the idea? Aren't religious adherents expected to behave in a representative way (as per that religion's teachings?).
I think that's all the OP meant tbf. Holier than thou isn't a common phrase for no reason.

You're not being holier than thou just by being active in a congregation.

Can we leave them alone now and give them the privacy they need?

This picking over of the corpse is unedifying and gross.

Quite.

it’s the biggest non story that’s been dominating the headlines, I can’t fathom why. 2 consenting adults sent naughty pics to each other. Who gives a fuck? Really.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 12/07/2023 18:09

Do you know, I’ve heard that some atheists commit crimes.

Yes but we don't offer to the world a pious facade and preach about the sanctity of family while we're cheating, we just... stay quiet.

Doagooddeed · 12/07/2023 20:00

Err what has he been found guilty of?

As far as i can see we have some unsubstantiated allegations and thats it.

The Sun originally said he was abusing a minor, it now turns out he wasn't (no MET action) so what else may well turn out to be a crock of shite?

ATM all we have is hearsay and gossip.

Naunet · 12/07/2023 20:01

haloeffect · 12/07/2023 19:32

so did he pay for the pictures? Unlikely as the Met said nothing illegal.

Oh sure, because the Met is well known for their hardline approach to sex crimes. Are we meant to suddenly trust them for some reason?

Plbrookes · 12/07/2023 20:01

Charlize43 · 12/07/2023 19:00

I was only interested in this story hoping that The BBC TV Licence fee might be abolished as I am struggling to pay it. I wonder if I send in a picture of my minge, they'll accept that instead?

I suppose they'd credit your account by a tuppence.

LiveByTheRiver · 12/07/2023 20:02

I got the meme with his face yesterday

I've never heard Huw Edwards preach, tbh

UncleRadley · 12/07/2023 20:02

@Sandra1984 exactly. It adds the extra element of them being a massive hypocrite.

GingerScallop · 12/07/2023 19:09

Would you have made a similar comment if it was an atheist?Muslim? Hindu? One person does not represent an entire religion. In fact Christianity is emphatic that we or at least, all Christians are sinners. Being a Christian doesn't mean one is flawless

This! Look at the catholic chuch in Ireland if you want to see pure evil. I'm not religious myself but i would hold religion responsible for an awful lot of evil in the world.

LaffTaff · 12/07/2023 20:04

DrSbaitso · 12/07/2023 19:56

I wasn't suggesting that. Just that the major religions have an expectation that adherents will tend towards moral superiority, thus it's clearly noteworthy when an adherent (a very high profile one, in this case) strays quite as spectacularly from expectation.

Ireolu · 12/07/2023 20:05

I guessed it was him earlier today. A process of elimination. I watch the news all the time and he was the main person missing on TV since suspension announced and fit the demographic.

It doesn't make you flawless, it just makes you a hypocrite.

fluffi · 12/07/2023 20:08

Nah, not surprised. It was clearly someone very high profile, previously well loved and well regarded, Huw was definitely on my shortlist.

Mumtobe2023 · 12/07/2023 20:09

GoodChat · 12/07/2023 18:07

I don't know that being a Christian means anything. Religious people can be the worst sometimes.

Yes. My mother in law being one!

gemstoneju · 12/07/2023 20:14

Just wondering about the religious aspect and considering that Edwards (born 1962?) would have been a practising Christian at a time when the church was preaching that homosexuality was a sin, a flaw, and that they were acts of wickedness. Wonder if he married against his true sexual orientation in the hope that he would be somehow 'strengthened' against acting upon it. Many people brought up in faith used to do this. Sad if that was in fact the case.

Livelovebehappy · 12/07/2023 20:16

It’s absolutely sickening that he is being treated for ‘mental health’ issues, for what it seems is his liking for sleazy text and pic exchanges with young people. It makes a mockery of people suffering genuine mental health issues. I hope he gets treatment, whatever that treatment looks like, but spare us the pity party.

I'd sat his mental health issues are pretty real right now.

He has had bouts of crippling depression for over 20 years, and spoke about it in a documentary a couple of years ago.

His wife is saying these mental health issues are long standing ones, I presume implying that this was why he behaved as he did.
