To be shocked it’s Huw?

His wiki page says he’s a Christian and a weekly church goer. Not a great ambassador for them, ah well

OP posts:
StefanosHill · 13/07/2023 18:24

The religious aspect is irrelevant to me

But it’s one of those public personas that grows to represent stability of BBC

I totally get he’s just human but I think people were initially shocked because of his persona

Convenient how? What further developement in the Osborne email saga did we miss? Or did you just want to chinwag about that original story instead?

The Osborne email is still on these threads 😂

Did anyone find the time to start it’s own thread yet, not that I care but maybe they could chinwag about it there

Wait a minute. Huw Edwards has been confirmed as the person accused. He hasn't been confirmed as actually having done anything!

Think the pic of his bare bum is pretty incriminating no?

I feel the most sorry for the parents of the youngster involved. I can only imagine the living hell they must have been going through. To watch their child throw their life away on drugs, to be wondering where on earth they were getting the money from, to have felt so helpless. Then to discover it’s this been this man, ole enough to be his father, using his wealth and power to take advantage of their child. To feel their frustration and despair when the police and then the bbc would do nothing to help them turn off this source of income, to protect their child. To feel like they had to resort to going to the press in desperation. And you know what - maybe it has worked! Maybe at least for the short term the money has dried up. Wether it is ‘legal’ or not, no one will convince me that a 60+ man taking advantage of somebody young enough to be his grandchild in a sexual way is anything other than deviant!

Agree

LadyBird1973 · 13/07/2023 18:35

Agree @RatatouilleAndFeta
The age of consent laws have no nuance and consideration for balance of power.
There's no situation in which it's morally okay for a middle aged (or older) person to be in a sexual relationship of any kind with a teenager. They might be 'legal', but barely!

Notbeinfunnehbut · 13/07/2023 18:43

The whole situation in contrast with Philip Schofield is odd to say the least …

Huw is receiving a lot more sympathy

As far as we're aware Huw didn't groom a child then do a whole 'coming out' facade when he knew he was going to get exposed.

If he targeted a 17 yr old with substance abuse issues despite having adult children all older than that 🤢, that is horrifying!!!!

i feel so much for his family

How long does divorce take these days? Be interesting to see who stands by their man.

@LadyBird1973 why do people feel the need to broadcast that they are Christians, unless to signal something that the recipient?

Why ask me?

I'm not a mind-reader.

Surely it's better to ask the individual(s) concerned?

smilesup · 13/07/2023 18:59

mimi912 · 12/07/2023 19:24

I've always thought he was nuts - and gay.

Get away with your discrimination. Fed up with people getting away with this. For those of us with mental illness and the hell it entails could do without dismissing us as being "nuts" thanks.

LadyBird1973 · 13/07/2023 19:08

@MrsPapadopolis I'm asking you because in response to my comment that people who make a point of saying they are Christian want to signal that they are decent, moral people to others, you said "No they don't".
Now since you say you aren't a mind reader, how are you qualified to say they definitely aren't trying to create a certain impression? It's not unreasonable to ask you why you think a person would publicise their Christianity rather than keep it private.

MrsPapadopolis · 13/07/2023 19:31

QueefQueen80s · 13/07/2023 17:10

Good one.. 🤣 Let's just ignore the vast amount of paedo priests and vile abusive nuns specifically choosing those areas of work to get close to children.

I am at a loss to know where you get your information.

Celibacy does not cause paedophilia.

Do you honestly think a Catholic Priest is going spend 3 years in an all-male Seminary plus another year on a 'placement' just to get the possible opportunity for some covert 'kiddy-fiddling ? Really?

If he was that determined to abuse kids why not skip the training and get started straight away? Your claim makes no sense.

College of Criminal Justice USA concluded a nationwide study, in 2002 which said that around four percent of American priests between 1950 and 2002 had been accused of abuse. Even one case of sexual abuse is too much, but that figure is half that of the overall percentage for American males, which, according to the president of the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, is one in ten.

I have no figures for UK but I would assume they are similar.

30% of abuse takes place within families, yet few sane people point to marriage as a cause of child abuse.

The i reports abuse by teachers is on the increase, so maybe you could vent your spleen in that direction.

Teacher bans for sexual misconduct jump to five-year high amid calls for tougher scrutiny

Figures released to i show 35 teachers were handed prohibition orders over sexual misconduct allegations in the year to March 2022, up from six the previous year

GoodChat · 13/07/2023 19:34

@Notbeinfunnehbut reports have said the teenager developed a habit because he had money, according to his mother. But it's all just hearsay as the man in question is also saying his mother has got it all wrong.

I speak as I find.

No-one I know broadcasts their religious persuasion.

You must be mixing with Jehovah's Witnesses who, incidentally, aren't Christian.

He has ruined enough lives.

Oh stop it. This is tbe most ridiculous post I've seen yet and I've seen a few! He owes you nothing just because you pay his license fee. His pay packet is irrelevant.

And if you think teachers and nurses are saints, at best you're naive.

+1
a bizarre attitude/desperate attempt at morality for sure.
some folks though do seem to expect folks paid from public money to be their slaves/puppets on a string.

They do, and its bizarre. It's the entitlement of modern society though. Look at all the posts last week of the bbc should tell us who the presenter is. Weve seen it time and time again and we dont learn until theres.tragic consequences then its oops, be kind.
It's the people claiming Huw and Schofield are powerful that get me. Yeah, they seem it.

If it turned out that a teacher had paid money to a young person for intimate pictures and that young person was doing this to find a drug habit, I'd expect the teacher to quickly become unemployed. There are some jobs where a certain standard of conduct is expected, private life or not.

can you list these jobs please?
the jobs where folks have a right to police the private lives of incumbents?
am genuinely interested.
(on the teacher example am of course not excusing "relationships" where there is a duty of care)
but yep am all ears to hear about these lilly white jobs/professions/callings.
maybe some mumsnetters have these jobs and can be forewarned/guided back to the straight and narrow.
