His wiki page says he’s a Christian and a weekly church goer. Not a great ambassador for them, ah well

100% agree @Supernova23 Sick of it I am.

Hello Yoda 👋

honeyrider · 13/07/2023 00:47

His wife's statement reads like a PR statement.

wanttokickoffbutcant · 13/07/2023 00:52

I feel extremely sorry for the whole family - sounds like his very open issues with his mental health have lead to this.

CallieQ · 13/07/2023 00:54

UndercoverCop · 13/07/2023 00:23

Even Schofield gave his own statement and didn't leave it to his poor wife , just one more humiliation for her

He is in hospital and quite possibly too ill to give a statement now

CallieQ · 13/07/2023 00:56

Pacific101 · 13/07/2023 00:10

HE’s PR machine and child grooming apologists are on a night out to mumsnet I see.

He isn't guilty of child grooming ffs

CallieQ · 13/07/2023 00:59

@Pacific101

If he’s a child grooming perv, then empathy is not needed. There’s no excuse. It’s disgusting.

He isn't

honeyrider · 13/07/2023 00:47

His wife's statement reads like a PR statement.

Of course it does - she had a media professional write it for her.

She must be without words right now.

DogbertMcDogglesworth · 13/07/2023 01:07

What a Huw ha.

Sorry.

Mothership4two · 13/07/2023 01:10

To be shocked it’s Huw?

Haven't RTWT but I would have been surprised at however it had turned out to be at the centre of this story.

His wiki page says he’s a Christian and a weekly church goer. Not a great ambassador for them, ah well

There have been innumerable sex scandals within the Christian Church in many denominations for decades probably centuries and some are still ongoing/being investigated.

The Catholic Church has paid over $4 billion in sex abuse settlements with apparently billions more to come. The Church of England claim it has paid out £1.4m to 68 to survivors of sex abuse (in urgent need of financial help) so far and has been criticised for their treatment of those survivors. A full compensation scheme is yet to be created. Christianity Today is reporting that the Presbyterian Church in America is facing a sexual abuse scandal. Etc... In any organisation that have men in power it seems to follow that there will be some kind of abuse.

So suspicions of the misconduct of a regular church goer was neither here nor there (to me).

On a separate point, at this stage it is not 100% clear of what he has or has not done.

He was paying the 17 year old to supply sexual images of themselves

Unless you're incredibly close to this, situation, you've literally just made this up

wanttokickoffbutcant · 13/07/2023 00:52

I feel extremely sorry for the whole family - sounds like his very open issues with his mental health have lead to this.

His mental health issues haven't led to this. Other people with MH issues don't do the things he's accused of. His MH issues will have been worsened by leading a double life and risk taking. Perhaps it's sad he was in the closet for so long, but he's done great harm to his wife and children and only he is responsible for that.

If there had been no mention of his mental health and him being in hospital what would people be saying? That there's nothing distasteful, inappropriate and hypocritical about a 61 year old man who presents himself as respectable seeking out just legal youngsters over 40 years younger than him and younger than his children?

Looking through Twitter, I've seen a lot of his male acquaintances and colleagues rush to defend him in a way I haven't seen women do. Perhaps it's simply as they are friends, but I also think there's an element of "there but for the grace of God' about it.

sashh · 13/07/2023 03:11

WeetabixTowels · 12/07/2023 18:19

Yep. It’s positively Orwellian.

I get angry at politicians fucking up because they make serious decisions about our LOI good, our homes, finances, workplaces, neighbourhoods etc and they SHOULD be an example of an upstanding moral human.

The men who read people the news - Meh. I can’t sweat one tiny drop over it.

This man who used to read the news is paid a 6 figure salary from our TV licences.

Other people paid from the public purse (teachers, doctors, nurses etc) have to adhere to codes of ethics, professional standards etc. We should expect the same from the BBC.

We have effectively paid for at least some dodgy pictures and possibly a young person to develop a drug addict.

So do you think that Muslims who commit bombings are Not a great ambassador for them,

MrsPapadopolis · 13/07/2023 06:50

PodgePie · 13/07/2023 00:15

It’s been all over the news - multiple colleagues of his have come forward and presented suggestive texts he sent them and literally said they felt abused by his position of power.

So where are these "texts" ?

Funny they should all come out now and not at the time? 🤔

lovescats3 · 13/07/2023 07:37

All very convenient timing for Johnson not giving early WhatsApp messages to the inquiry

LadyBird1973 · 13/07/2023 07:39

"And Premier League footballers get paid £375,000+ a week to kick a bag of wind around.

So what's your point?"

@Starseeking my point is that while footballers are also highly paid, they aren't being paid from public money.

And footballers have a limited career span and a comparatively rare talent - any fuckwit can read the news. TV presenters are ten a penny - why is the publicly funded BBC wasting so much of our cash (that we get no say in how it's spent or who heads the corporation) on presenters.

Give me half his salary and I'll clog up the airwaves for 12 days wittering on about the Queen and reading an autocue every night. Bonus - I won't spend my salary exploiting teenage drug users!

lovescats3 · 13/07/2023 07:41

Also convenient for the Osborne wedding email

LadyBird1973 · 13/07/2023 07:43

So many sleazy men, so little time...

MrsPapadopolis · 13/07/2023 06:50

BBC News are the ones who have discovered these texts and verified them. Do you think they are making them up? It's obvious why the recipients wouldn't have come forward sooner.

Starseeking · 13/07/2023 07:54

@LadyBird1973 It wasn't me asking that ridiculous question, I totally got your point, and commented that I was surprised to hear newsreaders get £500k.

Some other PP quoted me asking what my point was, and I referred them to the fact I was responding to your post! Apologies for the confusion (I'm still not sure what that user was on about lol).

UndercoverCop · 13/07/2023 07:56

@CallieQ so let his expensive lawyers or PR team release a statement, surely his wife is going through enough

Whatafustercluck · 13/07/2023 07:57

A few things occur to me about all this.

  1. He's committed no crime.
  2. It worries me that trial by media appears to be the default position these days.
  3. The hypocrisy of the Sun, which had a countdown calendar until Sam Fox became 'legal'.
  4. He's in hospital, possibly (guessing) having attempted to take his own life. You don't get admitted to hospital with mental health issues without them being real.
  5. Many have spoken about how he's helped them, and been a 'gentleman'. Perhaps his mental health problems were comorbid with addiction, which fuelled 'out of character' behaviour.
  6. Until the BBC have investigated possible abuse of power, this is all conjecture and should be considered private.

And finally.... what about those Johnson whatsapp messages?! All very 'convenient'.

PodgePie · 13/07/2023 07:59

MrsPapadopolis · 13/07/2023 06:50

I’m not entirely sure what you mean, they’re a significant part of the enquiry and are being handled as such. The BBC itself has reported that people were scared of coming of forward so some of the evidence has only just emerged.

Have you bothered to read/listen to any of the news reports?

topnoddy · 13/07/2023 08:04

honeyrider · 13/07/2023 00:47

His wife's statement reads like a PR statement.

It will have been written by someone for her to read out no doubt .
