His wiki page says he’s a Christian and a weekly church goer. Not a great ambassador for them, ah well

I’m not entirely sure what you mean, they’re a significant part of the enquiry and are being handled as such. The BBC itself has reported that people were scared of coming of forward so some of the evidence has only just emerged.

Have you bothered to read/listen to any of the news reports?

You would have thought after the Saville stuff (now then . now then) people would be more likely to report crap like this happening to them

Also convenient for the Osborne wedding email

Convenient how? What further developement in the Osborne email saga did we miss? Or did you just want to chinwag about that original story instead?

A few things occur to me about all this.

  1. He's committed no crime.
  2. It worries me that trial by media appears to be the default position these days.
  3. The hypocrisy of the Sun, which had a countdown calendar until Sam Fox became 'legal'.
  4. He's in hospital, possibly (guessing) having attempted to take his own life. You don't get admitted to hospital with mental health issues without them being real.
  5. Many have spoken about how he's helped them, and been a 'gentleman'. Perhaps his mental health problems were comorbid with addiction, which fuelled 'out of character' behaviour.
  6. Until the BBC have investigated possible abuse of power, this is all conjecture and should be considered private.

And finally.... what about those Johnson whatsapp messages?! All very 'convenient'.

I'm no fan of the rag publishing this but I don't think they did have a count down for Sam Fox, I think they have done for others, but I'm fairly sure she was already 16 when she did page 3.

She also had parental permission

LadyBird1973 · 13/07/2023 08:24

@Starseeking sorry Flowers

LadyBird1973 · 13/07/2023 08:29

Lots of things aren't crimes but are morally wrong. We're setting the bar very low if we say all behaviours are okay so long as they aren't actually illegal.

When you work in certain jobs, you do have to adhere to certain behavioural standards and conduct yourself in a way that doesn't bring your profession or employer into disrepute.

PowerTulle · 13/07/2023 08:32

He will have been advised to check himself into a private clinic by his lawyers. That way he gets security, privacy and the BBC will have to continue paying him because ’sick leave’.

MrsPapadopolis · 13/07/2023 08:32

@Mothership4two In any organisation that have men in power it seems to follow that there will be some kind of abuse.

Yes, sadly that's true.

I am still waiting for the OP to answer my question as to why Christians (and in this case Presbyterians) should be held to a higher standard than anyone else?

Hbh17 · 13/07/2023 08:33

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 12/07/2023 18:09

Do you know, I’ve heard that some atheists commit crimes.

The police have confirmed that there is no crime.

Hbh17 · 13/07/2023 08:40

I always rather disliked Huw Edwards' presenting style, and actually stopped watching the TV news in the pandemic because it had become so dumbed down and sentimentalised.
However, I now feel sorry for the guy - he has been hung out to dry by a dodgy tabloid when this should have remained private, and the only person who needed to know was his wife. I also question the parents who thought it was appropriate to go to The Sun, rather than the police, if they suspected criminality.
I hope HE is safe in hospital, and recovers soon.
None of us should condemn him, simply because he has an unorthodox private life.

So do you think that Muslims who commit bombings are Not a great ambassador for them,

Ouch! Did you have to? How are bombings and sex acts even remotely related? Not to mention the Islamophobia. Wow.

You have totally missed the point by a country mile.

It was a valid question not Islamophobia.

I'm sorry you can't see the relevance to the discussion..

Again, "convenient"= "I enjoy wearing hats made of tin foil".

Louis CK's career?

Too soon ...?

Have you never heard of the sexual abuse cases in the Catholic Church?

LadyBird1973 · 13/07/2023 08:58

As I understand it the parents did go to the police. And the BBC. And nothing was done.
So presumably in desperation they went to the Sun. They weren't paid.
What do you do as a parent, if your child is being exploited on line, given lots of money that they are spending on drugs and no one who could help you will help you?

MrsPapadopolis · 13/07/2023 09:11

oldermen · 13/07/2023 08:57

Yes I have - Huw Edwards is actually Presbyterian, so your point is?

Mutinyonthecrunchie · 13/07/2023 09:16

The moral of this story is don't have dirty little secrets to start with, they will always be found out.

Cluborange666 · 13/07/2023 09:33

As far as I know (maybe we don’t know it all) what’s H.E has done seems less bad than what GO allegedly got up to (eg having sex with someone too drunk to give consent). The media and public seem much more excited about H.E. Why?

adriftabroad · 13/07/2023 09:50

I saw Jon Sopel trying to defend (or perhaps not?) H.E.on GMB. It was not convincing in the slightest.

You can tell the posters on here who currently have teenagers and are dealing with the nightmare of online porn/media/bullying/OFs and so on at school, college and at home. They are now thinking "oh ok then, my worry needs to be extended to influential 60 year olds, not just Kevin/Angel from Geography"

Its a bloody minefield.

It is not about the bloody Sun Newspaper. AND THE PARENTS WENT TO THE POLICE AND THE BBC. FIRST.

Because there's no evidence for the GO allegations other than an anonymous poison-pen email (how cowardly). Next.

threecupsofteaminimum · 13/07/2023 10:00

I don't know anyone IRL who gives even the tiniest of shits. It's a cover story.

Their point is quite obvious! Religion (any religion) is no guarantee of good morals.

pintery · 13/07/2023 12:12

It should be made perfectly clear that he hasn’t been sectioned, or even admitted - he’s checked himself into a private clinic to escape - leaving his wife and children to deal with the fallout.

How do you know this @PodgePie and @PowerTulle?

A quick google tells you, but I’ve personally heard this from three extremely reliable sources (nature of job).

It’s also a very slick way for him to dodge the media storm - hiding away, claiming a mental health crisis. It used to be the term ‘exhaustion’ but now PR wagons use mental health as we’re now so much more tuned in to this & (generally) so much more forgiving if this is the case.

Did Huw ever say he was the posterboy for Christianity?

Since when is one human representative of an entire religious denomination?

This.

On another thread a poster said she was upset and disappointed and angry because he had led her into false pretences with his clean image reading the news 😭 the entitlement!
