My boobs, my business!

I see loads of bra size arguments on here, usually an individual is torn to shreds for stating she either has a 34 band at size 8-10 and is (god forbid it!) comfortable!
How dare she?? Doesn't she know that bra sizing is an SCIENCE that every woman needs to conform to??
Strangers on the internet know far more than you about what band size you ought to wear, and if you claim to be a 34A then you must be fooling yourself.

What the heck is all that about? It's almost militant. Not all bodies are the same. Some women feel better in a slacker band, and there is no perfect standard or science for comfort.
It is up to the individual how they choose to dress their boobs. But 'personal preference' seems to get a lot of people irate for some reason. There's this persistent myth that all women are wearing the wrong bra size, where almost every bra or boob thread gets derailed by.

Why are other women so freakily invested in the band size of other people? If men were demanding our bra choices were all wrong there's be a justifiable uproar. But for me the same applies to women - mind your own business unless the poster has asked for an opinion.

So currently the dogma (and it is fucking dogma) that most women are wearing the wrong bra seems to be acceptable. I have seen images of perfectly lovely silhouettes where the reaction has been extreme - she MUST be wearing the wrong size (God the hOrror!!!) even though she looks fantastic.

Back the hell off!
My body, my bra, my business. If my cup size choice startles you, maybe go for a walk in nature and get the blood pressure back down. Surely IANBU? Grin

This

never understood the whole complaint about how bras are so 'uncomfortable'. I hardly can feel that mine's there.

is sycophantic in tone, insinuates that other women are oversensitive and wrong.. None of us are wrong, that is the point, we wear what the heck we like. It is no one elses business.

That's not what sycophantic means. Do you mean supercilious? I don't think it's a superior acting comment, but if you do, that might be the word you're looking for.

Sorry, I'm not trying to derail or be a grammar Nazi. I was just genuinely puzzled.

EvelynBeatrice · 12/07/2023 14:31

I'm an anomaly or mistaken apparently because I said I measured 36 inches round pre pregnancy and 32 after. Apparently 'all' women have larger rib cage after pregnancy 🤨.

katepilar · 12/07/2023 14:32

The whole bra bussiness is a bit skewed. Women are pushed to have a certain look.
Wear what you are comfortable with, end of.

Lentilweaver · 12/07/2023 14:27

@Naunet I am a size 12 and wear a 34 band.🤔I don't understand bras tbh.

Me neither! I currently have 3 amazing bras that don’t have underwire but are still really supportive, so comfortable, but I’m wearing them into the ground because I hate buying new bras and can’t go back to my ones with underwire again 😩

It is unusual not to. But unusual things happen.

Namechangenoo · 12/07/2023 14:35

Never knew this was a thing but I choose a bigger band size to avoid backfat. Not interested in people's opinions on it.

wholivesondrurylane · 12/07/2023 14:35

Soverymuchfruit · 12/07/2023 14:17

The point is that the "wrong" back size, and the compensating "wrong" cup size, are what is comfortable to the woman who has chosen then. I find a smaller back size uncomfortable. Yes, then I can hoik the boobs up higher (and yes, they will then have bigger cups to hold them) but why on earth should I? Some women feel more comfortable or think they look better, with more support. Good for them. But the same woman could also wear a bra with a wider back and a smaller cup, and there is no right or wrong choice.

Not exactly.

There are right and wrong sizes, and while you are of course more than welcome to wear something to big or too small, it can still be the wrong size.

Once you have the correct size, then you have the choice between the style that works best for you, sport, lace, push up, minimizer, strapless, tshirt. We are not exactly stuck or forced to wear the style/ colour/ fabric we won't like are we? Even sports bras offer different level of support.

But why would you wear the wrong size by choice? It's weird.

WeRateSquirrels · 12/07/2023 14:36

ZiriForEver · 12/07/2023 14:01

Ok, I was on the edge, but now you are becoming cleary unreasonable.

Do whatever you want with A/B cups. Be comfortable. From the biological point of view, you are lucky and it is totally your choice. (Society might be saying something different, but sod them).

Don't deny the science.
Breast mass has some volume and weight (and shape). Some women carry a lot of weight on their chest. The weight won't go away - it will be hold by boobs themselves, on shoulders through straps or on torso through the band. If the band is too loose it can't take care of it's part of the weight, simple as that.

Yes, the conversations around it might be a bit too happy to snap/share what they learned.

The minute anyone mentions they're an AA/A/B cup, someone will be along to tell them how extremely unlikely that is, and they should be in a 28E. It's very annoying and you are definitely not being unreasonable OP.

And if you confess to not wearing/liking underwiring, they'll be back to helpfully tell you that you just haven't found the right style/size yet. Nope, I just dislike the feel of actual wires rubbing against my extremely prominent and boney ribcage, which seems quite reasonable.

I was thinking of the tarot, possibly.

But thank you, I feel educated now. We also managed to get to page 5 before the Nazi word came in!

This is such an odd thread, do you not understand that there is the same volume of boob in a 28D, 30C and 32B bra, the only difference is the size of the band? No ones boobs are magically getting bigger because they are measured to need a tighter band.

I hear you. I was a 34H so once I realised what you are commenting I was converted. But then I had two boulders to contend with, not two olives, so I was more predisposed to be positive about the change. My neighbour wears her bikini top way too lose at the band, it rides well up her back, making her boobs look droopy. Do I say anything? Nope, if she is comfy she is just as capable as I am of getting the correct band measurement.

Ah, I know nothing about tarot.

I did wonder if mentioning not trying to be a grammar Nazi counted as a Godwin or not.

StrangeThingsAfoot · 12/07/2023 14:38

I knoooow, those sad, poor, silly women who have the wrong band size... because only I know best, i feel so genuinelyooo sorry for them but I would never tell them....

Praise jesus. If only they too could convert to the lord.

Weird thread. How did you receive all this unsolicited bra size advice? There's a curious lack of examples. I can't imagine putting my bra size on the internet as an incidental piece of information.

Also big fat LOL at all the size 32Bs and 28As who don't understand why band size is important and why do women even bras ANYWAY. It's a conspiracy! Laughs in 34FF.

ssd · 12/07/2023 14:39

I'm a bra fitter. I didn't realise there was this much anguish involved.

I think part of it is because most people are wearing too big a band and then complain it rubs/they need more support/been measured by m&s/their bra band is up round their shoulders

Personally I get confused when someone is a size 8-10 and wears a 34 band because I'm a 16/18 and wearing a 34 band and I can pull it out too far really, it's genuinely not tight at all (I can sleep in it if I want to)
Because a 34 band is a 34 band. If that makes any sense!

Back in the days when I was 8-10 I was always a 34 band, and at size 16 now I’m a 36 (which is probably a bit tight actually). I think I’ve got a broad rib cage though. Broad shoulders and hips as well. Even at size 8 I’d still have looked massive next to someone of my height such as the Duchess of Cambridge who looks like she has a very small frame.

If folk want to wear the wrong size cos it comfortable, feel free. Doesn't bother me either way. But dont be surprised when ur tits are at your knees.

It is always to have one certain look! Personally I don't like my tits hoiked up to my clavicle. I find it overly sexual, stuffy and quite dated. It isn't a look I like on myself.

@BoobsOnTheMoon
That's really interesting, I am so fed up of trying on about 8 different sizes from different manufacturers, because they all fit differently; a custom made one would be brilliant. Will you post a link, or state their name?

Your breasts will sag with age just as much when you wear a bra as if you never wear a bra. Temporarily wearing a bra during the day doesn't stop gravity and ageing.
