My boobs, my business!

I see loads of bra size arguments on here, usually an individual is torn to shreds for stating she either has a 34 band at size 8-10 and is (god forbid it!) comfortable!
How dare she?? Doesn't she know that bra sizing is an SCIENCE that every woman needs to conform to??
Strangers on the internet know far more than you about what band size you ought to wear, and if you claim to be a 34A then you must be fooling yourself.

What the heck is all that about? It's almost militant. Not all bodies are the same. Some women feel better in a slacker band, and there is no perfect standard or science for comfort.
It is up to the individual how they choose to dress their boobs. But 'personal preference' seems to get a lot of people irate for some reason. There's this persistent myth that all women are wearing the wrong bra size, where almost every bra or boob thread gets derailed by.

Why are other women so freakily invested in the band size of other people? If men were demanding our bra choices were all wrong there's be a justifiable uproar. But for me the same applies to women - mind your own business unless the poster has asked for an opinion.

So currently the dogma (and it is fucking dogma) that most women are wearing the wrong bra seems to be acceptable. I have seen images of perfectly lovely silhouettes where the reaction has been extreme - she MUST be wearing the wrong size (God the hOrror!!!) even though she looks fantastic.

Back the hell off!
My body, my bra, my business. If my cup size choice startles you, maybe go for a walk in nature and get the blood pressure back down. Surely IANBU? Grin

Nothing like a heap of spelling errors in an AIBU post! Apologies.

Lol!
Of course,you are right.

BoobsOnTheMoon · 12/07/2023 13:10

Oh god so much this!!

Just get over it, bra weirdos. Some of us would rather be comfortable than anything else.

They would be appalled by my choices anyway. I only wear soft cotton handmade bras that I buy made to measure from a small business, they're in bright patterns (today is rainbow zebra print) and I love them, they're amazingly comfy and I think very flattering. But obvs not delicate lace with structured support etc.

Meeting · 12/07/2023 13:11

I've clearly missed all of this because I have no idea what it's about. But I usually buy a bigger band than I need because I hate when it's tight.

StrangeThingsAfoot · 12/07/2023 13:12

I am a 32B, they are quite small. I was told I MUST be a D cup with like a 26 band or something ludicrous! Yes ladies i am purposely strangling my boobs just to be obstinate!

You are whatever {bra size} you say you are.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 12/07/2023 13:13

Well according to a thread on the feminism board women should probably burn all their bras as they are too feminine....

Werewolfnotswearwolf · 12/07/2023 13:13

People are just trying to help - not entirely sure why you’re so irate about it. Lots of people tend to post that a dress or whatever is a little bit or small if a poster asks for opinions - does that bother you too?
And you can absolutely wear whatever band size you like but there is certainly something to be said for a well fitting bra! Really if you’re a size 8 with a 26 inch waist it would be fairly unusual to have a ribcage that measures 34 inches.

Curseofthenation · 12/07/2023 13:13

I didn't realise this was a thing. I'm a 34 D and a size 8/10 when I'm not pregnant. It's impossible for me to fit in any smaller band size as my rib cage is what it is!

MedievalNun · 12/07/2023 13:14

Definitely YANBU. I can't wear underwired bras anymore oh god I miss my wonderbras, I really, really, do and I'm constantly being asked if I'm wearing the right size as they're saggy don't look 'perfect'. People can sod off. I'm in my 50s, they did what they were designed for and are no longer trussed up. My boobs, my rules. Maybe we could start a new movement with that slogan!

StrangeThingsAfoot · 12/07/2023 13:15

They will be here shortly Grin

I will be the one with a 'problem' for not knowing my cup size science!

My tits roll around in a C cup (of any band size) like eggs in a bucket.

ZiriForEver · 12/07/2023 13:16

There are two factors.
One of them is - everyone is free to dress comfortable as possible, and there shouldn't be policing of underwear.
The other is - when it comes to bigger breast, bra fit has a significant influence on (future) pain in back and neck area and that the whole concept of using bra for shifting weight from shoulders to torso is really important.

So, of course people shouldn't be nasty about women's choices in this area and the examples mentioned are owner the top. In the same time some good level of spreading the news is useful as well.

CrunchyCarrot · 12/07/2023 13:17

I'm with you, OP! I do not want to be forced into a tiny suffocatingly tight band round my ribcage just because someone on MN says I should be wearing that! Comfort, that's what's needed!

StrangeThingsAfoot · 12/07/2023 13:17

Sadly my examples are not over the top, I have been reading a few this morning and it is very typical on most bra threads for women to chafe others for being 'wrong'.

A woman claiming to be AAA was given a severe....education. Probably because she had the audacity to say she felt comfortable with her boobs.

People are just a bit enthusiastic about their new found knowledge

I’ve never found any malice on the boob threads

your bra your business, yes but by talking about your bra on Mumsnet you are making it a public conversion 😁

Well you are right, it isn't malice, but it's bizarre. Enthusiastic maybe Grin

Strangers on the internet know far more than you about what band size you ought to wear, and if you claim to be a 34A then you must be fooling yourself.

I have no idea about proper bra sizing, I wear what feels comfortable, but if you ask for opinions, you’ll get opinions.

bonfirebash · 12/07/2023 13:20

I think part of it is because most people are wearing too big a band and then complain it rubs/they need more support/been measured by m&s/their bra band is up round their shoulders

Personally I get confused when someone is a size 8-10 and wears a 34 band because I'm a 16/18 and wearing a 34 band and I can pull it out too far really, it's genuinely not tight at all (I can sleep in it if I want to)
Because a 34 band is a 34 band. If that makes any sense!

Loafbeginsat60 · 12/07/2023 13:20

I wear a 34a but was sucked into this nonsense ages ago and ended up with a 28C or some shite. Man it was uncomfortable.

I've since discovered Pepper for small boobs and just buy a size XS - everything fits and they are so comfy! I get non wired and I love them.

No more gappy bras for me 😀

Werewolfnotswearwolf · 12/07/2023 13:21

@StrangeThingsAfoot she can choose what she wants to do with that info though, no one’s forcing you into anything!
Again, not that it doesn’t exist but it would be a very unusual size - clothes sizes of all descriptions equate to measurements, bras aren’t exempt from that. Wear what you like but like with anything, you’re probably more comfortable and look better in the right size :)

StrangeThingsAfoot · 12/07/2023 13:22

@Lacucuracha Im definitely only talking about those who didn't ask for opinions, they only stated their current size. Some people are very invested in the bra science, they will give you an opinion regardless.

Where do these come from?

I love comfy bras, and hate wires. Would be v pleased to locate a small business making them :)

StrangeThingsAfoot · 12/07/2023 13:25

OK, an similar example:

"I am a 34A, am happy with it, used to want bigger boobs but love them now"
"No you cant have a 34 band at your size, you need refitting"
"No, sorry, my bra fits great and i am comfortable"
"No, you must be wrong, most women are wrong, everyone wears wrong cup size (apart from me, lol)."
"I am happy with my 34A bra"
"You can't be, you must be 3 cups larger"

And it goes on and on like a dog with a bone.

A woman claiming to be AAA was given a severe....education. Probably because she had the audacity to say she felt comfortable with her boobs.

I wonder if that was me? I once made the mistake of telling mumsnet I was AAA and got so much grief. As if I haven’t tried a million bras in various sizes over the years DESPERATELY looking for a conventional size that would fit me, rather than having to rely on expensive bras from specialist websites that all look like cutesy underwear for children.
It is VERY weird how aggressive women of mumsnet are when they want you to wear a different sized bra. Maybe they’re all in a bad mood because of their uncomfortably tight bands, and they want to take you down with them.
