My boobs, my business!

I see loads of bra size arguments on here, usually an individual is torn to shreds for stating she either has a 34 band at size 8-10 and is (god forbid it!) comfortable!
How dare she?? Doesn't she know that bra sizing is an SCIENCE that every woman needs to conform to??
Strangers on the internet know far more than you about what band size you ought to wear, and if you claim to be a 34A then you must be fooling yourself.

What the heck is all that about? It's almost militant. Not all bodies are the same. Some women feel better in a slacker band, and there is no perfect standard or science for comfort.
It is up to the individual how they choose to dress their boobs. But 'personal preference' seems to get a lot of people irate for some reason. There's this persistent myth that all women are wearing the wrong bra size, where almost every bra or boob thread gets derailed by.

Why are other women so freakily invested in the band size of other people? If men were demanding our bra choices were all wrong there's be a justifiable uproar. But for me the same applies to women - mind your own business unless the poster has asked for an opinion.

So currently the dogma (and it is fucking dogma) that most women are wearing the wrong bra seems to be acceptable. I have seen images of perfectly lovely silhouettes where the reaction has been extreme - she MUST be wearing the wrong size (God the hOrror!!!) even though she looks fantastic.

Back the hell off!
My body, my bra, my business. If my cup size choice startles you, maybe go for a walk in nature and get the blood pressure back down. Surely IANBU? Grin

Most women do wear a band size that's too big

How do you know?
Isn't it all a bit weird?
It's like the tit police.

There was a study that showed 8 out of 10
women wear a bra that’s too small.

I just ignored it.

doingthehokeykokey · 12/07/2023 13:44

I want to see if I’m ‘wrong’ now.

I’m a 36AA

I’m also a size 10. I’m all back, no boob. Is that ‘wrong’? Where can I get an official telling off 😁

Ha, yes, I wonder who funds the studies? Mmmm....

Anything to get the masses chirruping about how women get everything wrong. Especially their bodies.

It also suggests that there is a 'right' way to wear bra's, which is problematic. We are all so different.

Yes, I have seen this. For years I was a size 8 to 10 and a 34A, now I'm more like a size 12 and probably a 36A (though I have switched to seamless elasticated barlettes which are soooooo comfortable)

I once saw on a threat that I should be a 26 or something equally ridiculous that I wouldn't have been able to even do up. I still don't understand why.

Irequireausername · 12/07/2023 13:45

I'm convinced that bra sizes are made up, so you just buy whatever seems reasonable.

Also i hate bras and wish that we didn't have to wear them, sadly though I have nipples 😂

Thread not threat! Although people do get very wound up about it so maybe...

Boob sadism? If you aren't screaming in pain you are doing it wrong. And then they will tell you that the pain will go away if you go up 10 cup sizes.

I'm size 8 and wear a 34. I hate the feeling of anything too tight and I have a big rib cage.

But mostly I wear sports bras to work. Pull on type ones. Sooo comfy ☺️

Soverymuchfruit · 12/07/2023 13:47

@Ohhhhhhhhh I'd be right here for a link for your seamless elasticated barlettes

alanrickmanshamster · 12/07/2023 13:48

Well.. I'm baffled by the bra thing

I'm a size 8 ok? Sitting here in size 8 jeans and a size XS top

Not a boob to my name, but my ribcage? Ginormous. I'm not fat but by fuck my back is chubby

Wearing a 36 band from M&S cause it's the only bra that doesn't cause overhang

I know it's probably incorrect but I also don't care

StrangeThingsAfoot · 12/07/2023 13:48

I have a few from Bam, or is it bamboo clothing? They are barely there and so soft. Obvs not structural support but nicely streamlined.

This would translate to "your back is breast tissue and needs hoisting into your Z cups"

I don't care what size anyone is, I just want to know why my bones are always popping out them middle.

ButImNotOldEnough · 12/07/2023 13:53

People get angry and attack others opinions because it directly challenges them. It either makes them scared they’re doing it wrong (so therefor you must be doing it wrong and if you suggest an alternate will be torn to shreds), or you’ve directly challenged a core belief of theirs which induces the flight or fight reflex.

Most likely they’re just silly little people unable to understand everyone has a different preference though. Bras are not important enough to hold core beliefs about.

AntiSocial6DaysAWeek · 12/07/2023 13:53

I'm a size 12-14 and wear either 36E or 38DD (that's what the lady who measured me told me to get) but I am pretty much always uncomfortable. so I have bras of different sizes and wear whatever will cause me the least discomfort.

Bought a couple of those bras which are almost like cross over crop tops for comfort but even the large was too tight!

I actually hate wearing them. Love winter when I can wear a thick coat and walk around bra less without my nipples poking out.

Think it's just frame and some people don't get that we're all different. Even when I was underweight (according to BMI and well, my bones were visible) I couldn't get below a size 10 on top.

If anyone has any recommendations for comfy bras please send them my way!

alanrickmanshamster · 12/07/2023 13:54

100%. I have scooped, and scooped

2 x 2 years of breastfeeding means my tits are in need of a surgeon, not a scoop

I have heard these things about Rigby & Peller - they can do ya on sight apparently

No R&P in NI though

ButImNotOldEnough · 12/07/2023 13:54

@SleepingStandingUp if you mean your joints are popping out the sockets, habe you/your GP considered hyper mobility? If your bones are actually poking out somewhere though I suggest A&E!

Irequireausername · 12/07/2023 13:54

I definitely approve of burning the bra, mainly because I hate them so much! 😂

It's like the tit police.

Surveys and testimony of bra fitters.

The band is supposed to stay level all around your back without riding up. However, if it's comfortable and works for you, do whatever you like. As boobs get bigger, it's harder to be happy with a poor fit, but that's for each individual to assess. If you're happy, carry on doing what you're doing.

Yes, they can and they are amazing. I was not paid to say that.

Curseofthenation · 12/07/2023 13:56

Maybe this is why I've never understood women coming home and ripping their bra off as they come in the door! I just chose a 34 band size as my mum has the same body shape as me and was the same size. It felt good so I went with it...

I did see a gorgeous 32D bra at a ridiculous price in a sale and thought I'd give it a go. It was so awfully uncomfortable. I had red marks all over my ribs.

I know my waist is 27/28 inches as standard. So I'm definitely a size 8/10.

BovrilMartini · 12/07/2023 13:56

So much this. I wear a 34B, Im a size 8-10. Post pregnancy and breast feeding I do the bra size stuff as my shape had changed. I came out as something like a 28E.

Only 2 shops sell 28Es and they are £50 each delivered by special many titted unicorns. Or I could just get a 34B for £6 in Tesco and be fine
