How far do public waste and dog poo bins need to be from house

Hi,

I’m hoping someone on here can help me, perhaps who work in council offices. A few months ago a public bin (litter and dog waste) was placed by the council directly in front of my house. I have tried researching briefly but can’t find the answer I need. What regulations are there for the placement of these bins? Should the people living directly opposite (within direct view when looking out of window) been consulted?

I love where I live because I am not overlooked as we have a lovely green in front, which is now obscured by this bin. My next door neighbour had her house on the market and has now taken it down. Every person who viewed the house commented on the bin.

when it’s windy if the bin is full the litter ends up all over my front garden.

I will attach a photo. I was thinking king of writing to council with a FOI request to find out what consultation was carried out.

Thanks in advance.

I saw the photograph of the bin in question, so in case this helps, imagine a fairly standard green space in a housing estate, with a willow tree and possibly some other shrubbery, who can say, over the other side of the road. About the same distance again away from your house, is a bog standard square black litter bin, like you might find in any park. I'd estimate it's about twenty or thirty metres away.

Glad you found a local councillor also having a slow Monday, I'm wondering how moving it out of your eyeline will stop the rubbish blowing out of it though?

And also no willow tree, I don’t think your memory of the photo is very reliable at all. 6 trees and a hedge.

@Stinkypoobin

You can't tell people to get a life when you spend yours measuring public bins.

the question was asked. It wasn’t hard to do giving its a 2 second walk from my door.

I definitely saw a willow tree

I’ve measured this morning. It’s 10 metres away from front door. 6 metres from house boundary. So no need to estimate

Was that wise? You took your life in your hands, surely, approaching such a hazardous bin like that.

amazing stamina. Nearly 5 hours from you. Is there any way to block people on here? Unfortunately not it seems.

You could just put the picture back up?

GoldDuster · 10/07/2023 15:22

I don't think you can ban people from suggesting you're possibly being unreasonable when you post about a bin in a park that you want moving ten metres to the left so it's out of your sight line.

I wouldn’t want anyone banned. But I think they have definitely laboured their point and unsure what they’re getting out of still posting 6 hours later. Which I why I’m wondering if they have a life.

Perhaps I should have mentioned at the beginning , posting for traffic.

well that has worked 😂

I’ll leave the comments here so you can all mock amongst yourselves, unless a new question comes along.

Silver birch I believe. Perhaps it does look a bit droopy and similar to a willow
