How far do public waste and dog poo bins need to be from house

Stinkypoobin · 10/07/2023 09:29

Hi,

I’m hoping someone on here can help me, perhaps who work in council offices. A few months ago a public bin (litter and dog waste) was placed by the council directly in front of my house. I have tried researching briefly but can’t find the answer I need. What regulations are there for the placement of these bins? Should the people living directly opposite (within direct view when looking out of window) been consulted?

I love where I live because I am not overlooked as we have a lovely green in front, which is now obscured by this bin. My next door neighbour had her house on the market and has now taken it down. Every person who viewed the house commented on the bin.

when it’s windy if the bin is full the litter ends up all over my front garden.

I will attach a photo. I was thinking king of writing to council with a FOI request to find out what consultation was carried out.

Thanks in advance.

What's small minded about disagreeing with you?

Did you post in the wrong forum?

GoldDuster · 10/07/2023 12:15

There's small minded, and there's small minded. It's my opinion that this matter has bin blown up out of all proportion, and if every council in the land had to deal with FOI requests for every bin that they place within eyesight of someone's house, it would be completely unworkable.

Yes you've got a bit of grass that you are fond of on the estate, no you don't own the view or the right to the view of it, or whether there is a standard litter bin in that view.

It's like posters are competing to give the most sarcastic reply then can. It's pathetic. I can see why the bin wouldn't bother people but it's not at all unreasonable to not like it. I wouldn't! Everyone is ignoring the fact the OP said the bin was "directly opposite" (her house) in her OP.

It is possible to disagree with an OP and not be snide about it.

The OP says
A few months ago a public bin (litter and dog waste) was placed by the council directly in front of my house
which gives the impression its on the pavement outside her house.

Why has the OP removed her photo? And how - MN usually comment if they have done something like this?

This is AIBU, a board specifically for posters ask others for their opinions. Nobody is trolling. You asked us for opinions and we gave them. What did you think would happen?

If you just wanted an answer to your question about the council, you could have posted on Property or Legal.

WaitingForNothingGood · 10/07/2023 12:35

@Seeline I agree the OPs description wasn't the best but it was clear from the OP and the PHOTO where the bin was. I
Posters who assumed it was closer can't have very good comprehension skills.
There are still posters who think the OP said the bin was 4ft wide 😂😂😂

Also, it's really not surprising the OP has now removed the photo. People are being surprisingly snidey for such an innocuous post 🤷🏻‍♀️.

I think if the original post had been more yo do with the bin not been emptied and litter blowing around people will have sympathetic.

I disagree - it really wasn't clear from the OP that the bin was 10m from the OPs house!! The photo showed just how silly her objections were which is why I assume she has somehow had it removed!!

Hi, I had the photo removed as it could have been identifying.

Really? So MN are policing threads and removing references to BBC comedy characters as a matter of policy? Seems doubtful.

I am not posting ‘hate’. I think you’re being silly about a bin that’s plainly many yards from your house and looks perfectly normal.

I did not see your comment. I have no idea which sitcom character you are referring to.

Oh Lordy, all of my posts on this thread are going! Presumably the last one will too.

Are you sure you’re not on the report button OP? Truly?

Haha. Funny. Not very original though. You have posted 9 times on this thread. You are quite consumed aren’t you? Not much going on for you huh!? Whatever keeps you entertained I suppose

Why did you bother to count the number of my posts?

Bingate?

Move to classics?

JohnnysSoLongAtTheFair · 10/07/2023 13:16

Right, so you were ‘curious’ about me and another poster. Got it.

Nothing to do with you disliking contrary opinion then?

And since I see that at least one comment from a poster that’s not me has been deleted too, could you please answer whether you’ve been complaining about posts to MN.

I reported one of yours quite near the beginning but it’s still there ha. The other poster I reported twice, one was removed and the other is still there. Would you like to see my email history? The other ones removed must have been somebody else.

I said pretty early on ( to you I think in fact) that I wasn’t searching for opinions, just help regarding whether any consultation would have been needed. Several people including yourself have jumped on the thread all giddy and competing to give the most sarcastic comment.

Well I’m not sure if you’ve won for the most sarcastic but you and the other poster are certainly very absorbed.

This AIBU? thread is golden: “I wasn’t searching for opinions”. Thank you OP.
