How far do public waste and dog poo bins need to be from house

Stinkypoobin · 10/07/2023 09:29

Hi,

I’m hoping someone on here can help me, perhaps who work in council offices. A few months ago a public bin (litter and dog waste) was placed by the council directly in front of my house. I have tried researching briefly but can’t find the answer I need. What regulations are there for the placement of these bins? Should the people living directly opposite (within direct view when looking out of window) been consulted?

I love where I live because I am not overlooked as we have a lovely green in front, which is now obscured by this bin. My next door neighbour had her house on the market and has now taken it down. Every person who viewed the house commented on the bin.

when it’s windy if the bin is full the litter ends up all over my front garden.

I will attach a photo. I was thinking king of writing to council with a FOI request to find out what consultation was carried out.

Thanks in advance.

She'll be asking for it to be zapped now

If the litter is blowing out you're could ask for something with a lid?

Hahahahaha the photo in your post is covered by a "sensitive content" warning 😂

OP must be moderating today!

The ‘sensitive comment’ bit had nothing to do with me. Sorry to disappoint

Goodness me, all this about a bin over the road!

Blossomtoes · 10/07/2023 13:58

Gutted the picture’s gone. It makes any comment pointless.

Imagine an ordinary black bin that looks small when photographed from OP's house because it's so far away. With grass and trees behind it.

@Stinkypoobin I totally sympathise with you! There is a dog poo bin about 4 - 5 feet away from a block of flats I walk by, and my friends and I always say we couldn't live near a poo bin, especially in the height of summer! It has a lid but if it's not closed properly, you get swarms of flies and the stench and sight of full poo bags! Not nice at all. Sorry to see you've had so much grief from other posters, but I certainly wouldn't be happy with it! I couldn't see your photo but is there any chance you could put up a tree / fence / something to block out the view of the bin?

Riapia · 10/07/2023 14:11

It’s there because arrogant people can’t be bothered to take their dog shit and litter home and dispose of it.

It’s there so they don’t have to 🙂

It's on the other side of the (wide) street

It's not a dog poo bin. It doesn't have a lid and isn't mounted on a pole. It's an ordinary, innocuous black bin.

radfordrunner · 10/07/2023 14:15

@DataNotLore OK thank you - I couldn't see the photo. Of course, as a dog owner, I'm all for dog poo bins, but, IMO, I just wouldn't want one put up near my house! But there probably wouldn't be a lot I could do if one was put up.

OP if you really wanted advice you would have posted in legal rather than AIBU. Because the answer to that is Yes, you definitely are.

I’ve just spoken to my local councillor. She was really helpful and lovely about it all.

There is the possibility they may move it, I’ve suggested about 10 metres left which is in a gap between houses so not directly in front or opposite anyone’s house. And still easy to access from a rubbish collection point of view.

i’m not sure a fence would work as house is slightly higher than the road.

Regarding the other posters 🤷‍♀️sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, they’ll find someone else to pick on soon 😊

I’ve sent you photo. I’d never said it was ‘just’ a dog poo bin. Right from the beginning I’ve referred to it as a litter and dog poo bin. People like to make stuff up unfortunately

It’s a pretty narrow street to be honest. Probably 2 car widths

Another poster and I pointed out that it's not a dog poo bin and that you refer to poo and dog waste three times in your post and your username. But you had those comments deleted.

Hahahaha the only comment I’ve had deleted is the photo I had taken. Please try harder. Again, would you like to look through my email history? You have some serious issues, still going.

i can’t think of any reason why you continue to make up stuff, what is wrong with you. Hope you’re ok and not incapacitated as this is the only reason I can think you’ve been going for hours.

I saw the photo and can’t see your problem. It’s a black bin way over the road from you.

I do have a problem with people using up council resources over non issues like this. Very precious.

GoldDuster · 10/07/2023 14:46

I saw the photograph of the bin in question, so in case this helps, imagine a fairly standard green space in a housing estate, with a willow tree and possibly some other shrubbery, who can say, over the other side of the road. About the same distance again away from your house, is a bog standard square black litter bin, like you might find in any park. I'd estimate it's about twenty or thirty metres away.

Glad you found a local councillor also having a slow Monday, I'm wondering how moving it out of your eyeline will stop the rubbish blowing out of it though?

I’ve measured this morning. It’s 10 metres away from front door. 6 metres from house boundary. So no need to estimate

@Stinkypoobin

You can't tell people to get a life when you spend yours measuring public bins.
