SOMEWHAT LIGHTHEARTED.

DP is like that all the time and it drives me up the wall.

Example 1: I was about to get us a takeaway and sent the message 'do you want the set that comes witk fries?' and he sent back '?' followed by 'what's witk?'.

Example 2: We were talking about how people were all scrambling to get tickets for the Taylor Swift concert. Somewhere along the way I sent 'think TS tickets can only be bought if you've got some special code though' and got a 'TS?' in return.

Example 3: I told him I was going to the store to get a cake to celebrate something. Got there and texted 'Tiramisu or Black Forest' and he sent 'for the cake?'.

I get wanting 100% clarity but he's a smart man surely some common sense and inference will do sometimes? I DO NOT do vague references and expect him to read my mind btw. All my complaints are when the above 3 examples happen. AIBU?

Hang on!!! Are you my husband’s other wife? Are you my inadvertent sister wife?!

CC4712 · 09/07/2023 11:07

Is he dyslexic? Any learning difficulties?

WandaWonder · 09/07/2023 11:12

I can usually tell the difference in an error and 'text' speak I think it is easier to type normally than use acronyms and other people's way of typing

But a complaint about an accidentally missed spelling would be annoying, I hate deciphering text speak though

dudsville · 09/07/2023 11:13

I'm sure at some point poeole are going to start mentioning reasons why this might be the case for a person, but I can understand the frustration. It reminds me of the time my neurotypical friend and I were in an airport in Ireland (we're English). We got to the head of the queue to check in and a guy called us over. I said "that's us" to my friend and he said "how can you tell, I didn't understand what he said". I said "we're in a check in queue, next in line, a checking in guy has said something to us, what do you think he would possibly be saying to us?". We laughed about that for years. My DH can be a little too literal. NT but very male brain and "NAT friendly", and I have a few NAT diagnoses. He struggles with my typos but has started learn to approach them as a puzzle!

35965a · 09/07/2023 11:14

That would irritate me too

Sparklfairy · 09/07/2023 11:15

Contextual understanding is a skill that can be learned with practice. Although those that don't have it often find it easier to just ask for the answer, which is really annoying and lazy

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 09/07/2023 11:16

That's just being picky for the sake of it - he knows full well what you mean!

I'd be tempted to text back something really sarcastic, tbh.

MasterBeth · 09/07/2023 11:16

YABU. U think ure all ITK with your shortcuts but they are annoying, IYSWIM.

I hate to do this in the context of this thread 🤣 but NAT?

DelphiniumBlue · 09/07/2023 11:19

DH does this. I find it a bit passive aggressive, our DC call him out on it..it's like " well nobody explained it to me, how can I be expected...to know/ understand/participate ".
Everything is not his fault, it's everyone else's fault for not taking the trouble to explain to him properly.
Very irritating!

Createausername1970 · 09/07/2023 11:19

I am guessing wikt was with, just mistyped? But if you do use acronyms a lot, then how is he supposed to know? I personally don't like acronyms. I use them here and other forums as it's the norm, but I wouldn't use them IRL (see what I did there?)

Maybe you just need to accept he likes things a bit clearer and adapt your messages to him to accommodate this.

These deliberately pedantic men need more sarcasm.

"No, I'm naming our next child fucking Tiramisu or Black fucking Forest, you stupid boring bastard!

I don't use them a lot. When it comes to acronyms it usually happens like in example 2 where after messages and messages talking about a Taylor Swift concert I give up typing Taylor Swift and type TS instead.

My 18 years old asd ds does this....its nit because he doesn't understand he thinks he is being superior.

Hesma · 09/07/2023 11:23

I haven’t a clue what witk means????
stop being lazy and just use proper English

In context it's clearly a typo for with...

YANBU, all of those examples are obvious and his response was annoying!

iLovee · 09/07/2023 11:39

Oh god you can't be that obtuse?! Have you read the OPs posts? Its clearly a typo! Maybe you are her husband... 🤔

Maybe it's not actually obvious to some people? 🤔

It makes me think of those posts on Facebook that are spelled all wrong:
"If yuo can read tihs..." etc. They always say you're in the minority being able to understand it. Perhaps all of us who can understand really are unusual! Although I always assumed most people could read them.

HoboSexualOnslow · 09/07/2023 11:44

He sounds very tedious

rigamortiz · 09/07/2023 11:45

I wonder if I work with your husband 🤣

A colleague drives me up the wall with this. He spends his days interrupting me with questions on Teams but can't handle my minor typos or short answers.

Even better is when he asks a question and I say yes. He always comes back with "yes, I should [retypes the process he asked if he should do]?" And when he gets a second yes, types "ok I will [retypes the process for a third time]".

Are you saying if you saw the words “witk fries” in a text you wouldn’t understand that it was a typo and supposed to say “with fries”?

OP, either your partner has a learning difficulty or he’s being a pedantic, passive aggressive twat.
