Your pictures won’t have that blurred misty haze if you wipe the camera lens on your phone before taking them.

Your gold jewellery will sparkle like mad if you leave it to soak in warm soapy water and scrub gently with an old toothbrush, rings do the inside underneath the settings to allow light to penetrate better.

Drinking a pint of water first thing in the morning will rehydrate your body and help get rid of that groggy feeling. Drink as much as you can throughout the day - you’ll thank me for it.

Closing the apps on your phone will make it work more efficiently, same for clearing the browser history.

AIBU to ask what your tips of the day are?

Re. the dirty coats at nursery; my kids had a totally separate nursery wardrobe too, including coats, but even paint stained clothes can look and smell obviously clean. I'm talking coats with built in cuff grime and which smell of cooking/smoke etc which have never seen the inside of a washing machine.

Fairislefandango · 09/07/2023 15:47

Great thread!

Get an old fashioned carpet sweeper for when you can't be arsed getting the hoover out.

I don't get this one. I expect I'd keep the carpet sweeper (if I had one) in the same place as the hoover. Why eould it be any less effort to get it out?

Don't ever try to get mud off a carpet by using water or cleaning spray, wait a day until it dries and brush it off or hoover it.

KimWexlersPonyTail · 09/07/2023 15:50

Cut up old rubber gloves to make rubber bands. Brilliant for putting around open bags of frozen food, rice etc.

PuppyMonkey · 09/07/2023 15:57

The best one on these threads is always the one about storing duvet sets in one of the pillowcases so you’re never fannying around looking for a missing bit of the set in a drawer.

Also buy fewer items of Tupperware and store them in a cupboard with the lids ON. You’ll obviously have far fewer Tupperware containers due to space but they’ll be twice as useful as when you had 50,000 with no matching lids.Grin

If you like vintage clothes but find they always come with a vintage smell, spray them with white vinegar or cheapo vodka and hang them outside overnight then wash as usual.

RobertaFirmino · 09/07/2023 16:00

Also, Pringles lids fit those little glass GU dishes perfectly.

This depends on where you live. I'm in southern Spain and we are under a heat bloom at the moment and I'm averaging 3L of fluid per day.
BUT little and often is much better. Look up water intoxication.

Oh, yes, Spain! I'm in a city in the north of England! You're right about water intoxication, though.

Spooce · 09/07/2023 16:05

Bicarb will get almost any stain out! (TMI, sorry, but post-birth bleed on the carpet came right out after a thick paste of bicarb on it for 48 hours). Just lift off when it’s absorbed the stain, wash and then hoover when dry or bung in the washing machine if it’s clothing or fabric. And buy bicarb in a massive 1kg bag from Amazon- much cheaper!!

I accidentally found the same applies to hairballs coughed up by the cat. Revolting but true.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 09/07/2023 16:12

Cut the legs of old nylon tights into strips about 4" long. Excellent hair elastics.

Don't drink too much water. You won't "dehydrate" unless you're sweating profusely. You can get enough fluid from food, especially fruit and veg.
Drinking water doesn't "flush out" or "clean" your system. That's not how the body works.
Put vinegar in a towel wash, no detergent. Towels come out well.
Hand sanitiser gets rid of pen marks.

How much vinegar?

Cutting chives with scissors was a revelation. Same goes for chicken and beef- the IKEA multicoloured handle ones are best and survive thousands of dishwasher cycles.

Cut cooked supermarket type pizza with scissors!

TheOhGodOfHangovers · 09/07/2023 16:20

Just to confirm, all the vinegar uses mentioned above are white vinegar rather than malt vinegar?

LoisPrice · 09/07/2023 16:20

use washing powder to clean your sink - it will clean it really well and leave it smelling nice.

Enko · 09/07/2023 16:22

Inspired by another thread.

When cracking eggs Drop them onto a flat surface (like kitchen table) instead of cracking them on the edge of something. The shell will crack but the membrane will stay intact. Then pick up and crack fully = no shells in cake mixture.

Yes, clear distilled

Maireas · 09/07/2023 16:23

About a tablespoon, @HarrisJu . Seriously does improve your towels, getting rid of soap residue etc

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 09/07/2023 16:24

If cooking more than one pizza, cut them in half before putting in the oven. Put the slices on the tray straight side facing out and you can then easily fit two pizzas onto the baking tray rather than one. Particularly helpful if cooking lots of pizzas for kids parties etc!

Pop half a teaspoon full of pink Himalayan salt and some lemon in that pint of water and it will help replenish your bodies nutrients too as well as give you a dose of vitamin C.

smilesup · 09/07/2023 16:49

Dry feet - wipe feetbwith the inside of a banana skin. Put socks on leave over night. Weird but true.

Itchy insect bites - put a teaspoon in a mug of boiled water. Carefully put teaspoon on bite make sure doesn't burn. It feel like the itch is going crazt. Repeat until it takes out the itch. It's a fucking miracle for those of us who react to bites. Try it now if you have one. You can thank me later.

Vinegar instead of fabric conditioner. Cheaper, just as soft and now horrible conditioner smell (or vinegar either!)
