Your pictures won’t have that blurred misty haze if you wipe the camera lens on your phone before taking them.

Your gold jewellery will sparkle like mad if you leave it to soak in warm soapy water and scrub gently with an old toothbrush, rings do the inside underneath the settings to allow light to penetrate better.

Drinking a pint of water first thing in the morning will rehydrate your body and help get rid of that groggy feeling. Drink as much as you can throughout the day - you’ll thank me for it.

Closing the apps on your phone will make it work more efficiently, same for clearing the browser history.

AIBU to ask what your tips of the day are?

Itchy insect bites - put a teaspoon in a mug of boiled water. Carefully put teaspoon on bite make sure doesn't burn. It feel like the itch is going crazt. Repeat until it takes out the itch. It's a fucking miracle for those of us who react to bites. Try it now if you have one. You can thank me later.

@smilesup a quicker way is blast with a hairdryer a few times on the hottest setting you can handle. Apparently it's because heat destroys whatever is in the insect sectretions that makes you itch some protein or bollocks like that. It's more effective than a teaspoon in boiling water because you get consistent prolonged hear for as long as you want. I was a late discoverer of this fact in life but it's amazing. For most effect you need to do it as soon as you realise youhave been bitten.

Bicarbonate of soda: if you've washed something or have cleaned carpet and there is a smell remaining you want to get rid of (like pet urine for example), cover it with bicarbonate of soda and brush it into the fabric. Leave it over night and then vacuum it off. Smell gone.

Newspaper that has been dipped in water and washing up liquid is amazing for cleaning windows, toilet paper is amazing for final buffing!

If you cut off the elastic part of old socks they make great hair bobbins

if you drink water first thing in the morning it tricks your body that you’re going to have a healthy day and you eat less junk! (Sometimes!)

best tip I ever got was to put your clothes for the next day out, one less decision to make in the morning!!

Don't bother saying goodbyes when you want to leave a social event with alcohol involved. Nobody will notice and your goodbyes will take a further hour. Just grab your jacket and leave.

Love this!!!!! And thank you op!

Slice lemons, limes and oranges very thinly, open freeze and then store in freezer bags. Add a couple of slices to water and you get a lovely cool glass of flavoured water.

Clean windows and any glass with newspaper. Sparkling clean and no streaks!

and never clean windows on a sunny day as it's hard to see the bits you may miss

Critic acid cleans everything and descales negating the need for any toxic chemicals. Including very dirty ovens!!

I've heard this before.
So how do you use it?
Do you need a cloth or sponge?
If a cloth can that then be washed with normal stuff without damaging anything?
Do you need to use umm lemon or vinegar or??
How much will I need to clean a really grubby oven door? Like a spoonful or half a kilo or in between.?

Only use the loo at work. Not only will you save money on toilet paper, but you'll also be getting paid.

Do you hold it in all weekend and when you're on holiday?

CaroleSinger · 09/07/2023 17:07

WORRIED that your teeth will be stained after a heavy night drinking red I wine? Drink a bottle of white wine before going to bed, to remove the stains.

stayathomer · 09/07/2023 17:08

What !!!!!! 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳

What do you drink? How is this possible?
I know this was aimed at someone else I was about twenty I drank milk, orange squash or orange or apple juice. Ate a lot of fruit and veg so I’d assume they helped keep me hydrated. I honestly think the more water you drink the more you need to keep everything functioning, now if I go a few days without water my skin goes to absolute crap whereas I have a few friends who still don’t drink water, they have cordial/ tea/ coffee instead and don’t worry about hydrating like I do!

Campervangirl · 09/07/2023 17:08

Don't eat yellow snow 😁

Blocked toilet.
2 scoops of biological washing powder, gently add a jug of hot, NOT boiling, water, close the lid and leave it as long as possible, at least a couple of hours.
It should flush and leave the bowl clean.
If not, repeat.
If it is just blocked with paper, straighten a wire coat hanger and use the hooked end to pull the paper out.
Never put kitchen roll or tissues down the loo. Toilet paper is designed to break up, the others are designed not to break up.

Use scissors to cut pizza.
Get an old fashioned carpet sweeper for when you can't be arsed getting the hoover out.
Clean white cotton bedding once a month on a very hot prewash, then put on the line for a long as the sun is out. Cleans your washing machine and keeps bedding white.
Use washing powder. It goes much further than pods or liquids, and you only need to use half the recommended amount.
Keep your washing machine door slightly open when not in use to prevent mould.

Although I always find my washing powder clumps and makes it (almost) unusable.

Useful thread, thank you

Don't buy those expensive bags of Epsom salts to stick in your bath.

Buy magnesium sulphate (mgso4) from Amazon or Ebay in 25kg sacks. It's usually sold as plant food. It's exactly the same as those packets of Epsom salts

endofthelinefinally · 09/07/2023 17:12

Sliced, peeled root ginger keeps for weeks in the fridge if you put it in a jam jar and cover with cooking sherry. Great for stir fries.

Quickest way to cool down is run a tea towel under cold water, wring out and twist and place around the neck of the person who needs cooling down or yourself.

At the beach, remove sand from feet with a liberal sprinkling of baby powder before putting on shoes etc.

During hot weather add water to your dog or cats food to water it down and provide extra hydration. A little or a lot depending on your pets preference. It's massively helped one of my many dogs as he turns his nose up at drinking water.

A low growing clover is a great way to transform your lawn as it stays green, doesn't need cutting as frequently and is bee friendly.

Keep insect bites at bay by eating a lot of garlic.

Add a few drops of moisturiser to a heavy foundation to make it a tinted moisturiser.

Vaseline on fingernails at bedtime makes the string and supple.

Save money on buying expensive shrubs from garden centres by taking cuttings when you're out and about. Retail parks with established plants are good for this. Seek permission of it is from someone's garden.

Buy a roll of cheap wallpaper for young children to use as drawing paper on the reverse side. It's great to get them to lay down on it and you draw around around them to make an outline for them to colour in or glue crafts bits on etc. Cheap and cheerful entertainment.

A couple of drops of Fairy washing up liquid in a spray bottle of water is great for a quick clean in the inside of your car using a cloth or sponge. It leaves your windscreen clear and streak free if you use a dry cloth afterwards.

Much nicer than citronella is Turkish lemon cologne which can be spritzed to repel insects, used as room and soft furnishings freshener, used on hair as and spritzed on skin to cool down and repel midges etc. It also repels nits in children's hair.

fragrance oils are cheap and last longer than regular shop bought perfumes. Al Rehab make roll on bottles which last ages.

Poach an egg by cracking it into a silicone fairy cake or muffin cake mould and placing in water to boil as it will float and cook the egg evenly.

Hi @Brrrrrrrrrrrr awww thank you for these tips 👌
The only tip that comes to mind atm is using a body brush in circular movement on the leg area which is prone to cellulite keeps it away 👍
Have a great day everyone ☀️

I've recently purchased a body brush to do this after realising that I've been doing it on a horse for years and she is pristine! 🤣 maybe it will work on me too🤞

IridescentRainbird · 09/07/2023 17:18

When you move house, sort out your drawers before you move. On the day, carry the tidied drawers separately to the van. Replace them in the chest of drawers, then do it all in reverse at the new house. If it's raining a bin liner will keep the contents dry. Saves a lot of packing and akes the chest of drawers lighter to carry.

I like this but I often also freeze grapes to use as ice cubes.

Nanna50 · 09/07/2023 17:20

On the drinking water theme, don’t drink a large glass of water in one go, drink it slower, it’s better for hydration. That’s because the water goes to where your body needs it but the excess goes straight to your bladder.

Back21970 · 09/07/2023 17:22

I have very fine only hair that looks better without conditioner but was very difficult to comb when wet because of the tugs.

I read a tip somewhere years back about combing the shampoo through before rinsing and it really works - do it every time I wash now and so much easier to comb after - total game changer for me.

Coatandhat · 09/07/2023 17:25

@marshmallowfinder Didn't think of that. Thanks!

ZZGirl · 09/07/2023 17:26

Spotty skin neesa hydration, not drying out.

The key to crispy roast potatoes is flour and do not disturb!
