Your pictures won’t have that blurred misty haze if you wipe the camera lens on your phone before taking them.

Your gold jewellery will sparkle like mad if you leave it to soak in warm soapy water and scrub gently with an old toothbrush, rings do the inside underneath the settings to allow light to penetrate better.

Drinking a pint of water first thing in the morning will rehydrate your body and help get rid of that groggy feeling. Drink as much as you can throughout the day - you’ll thank me for it.

Closing the apps on your phone will make it work more efficiently, same for clearing the browser history.

AIBU to ask what your tips of the day are?

When you want to slice a loaf of bread, turn it upside down on the board. This makes it much easier to cut straight.

If you want to freeze bread, slip pieces of wax wrap or baking parchment in between each slice before putting in the freezer. It makes it much easier and quicker to separate out and extract the number of slices you want without thawing the whole loaf.

When you want to barbeque/braai (I'm South African), line the bottom and sides (generously overlap the top rims) of the barbeque/braai with a double layer of aluminium foil before making the fire. Once you've finished and it has cooled, all you have to do is lift out the foil and discard - no heavy scrubbing and cleaning is required. A one-minute job!

WORRIED that your teeth will be stained after a heavy night drinking red I wine? Drink a bottle of white wine before going to bed, to remove the stains.

Excellent tip! 🤣😂🤣

From a GP when my (now 25 yr old) was a toddler, flat full fat cola will rehydrate and replace electrolytes after d&v.

Um, if your medication is making you itchy see your GP. You may be allergic, and if it gets worse (which is possible) your airway could swell up.

Thankyou but it can be a common side effect, not necessarily an allergic reaction.

I have passed on this information to a couple of people who were both nursing loved ones that were itchy from morphine. Like I said, niche advice but might be useful for people to know someday as doctor's don't always think of it.

Haemorrhoid cream will remove eye wrinkles for several hours.

when invaded by fruit flies use the hoover attachment to clear them - go from above as they fly upwards when startled.

Annierob · 10/07/2023 22:18

If you are trying to unscrew a bottle, wrap an elastic band round the lid. Works every time.

Lisapeter · 10/07/2023 22:19

My mum is the same I bought Celtic salt she had a few grains and drank loads of water! Celtic Salt is really good for you also.

Lisapeter · 10/07/2023 22:38

You can get it from Amazon.

It's featured on Amazon but has been out of stock for some time.

Close the cutlery drawer before you slice any bread. (& please tell my OH that as he doesn't listen to me.....)

Bicarb and a left over bit of left over lemon (from last night's G&T) makes cleaning a stainless steel sink easy - removes all the grunge and tea stains.

Buy the small pots of herbs from the supermarket (like Lidl) as they are cheaper than buying them from a garden centre. Basil will last a couple of months at least on your kitchen window sill, just water regularly when it begins to wilt. Pick the leaves to go in salads or in sandwiches.

Further trick with herbs. Replant them in a bigger pot and separate the roots so there is more room to grow. They will last months!

Soak your new blue and/or black denim jeans and jackets in a salt bath to set the colour.

4 to 8oz salt
enough cold water to cover jeans

Disolve salt in bucket, bathtub or washer. Immerse jeans completely in salt water, soak for 1 hour.
Wash on cold immediately and line dry.

This sets the dye in your new denim clothes.

When baking jacket potatoes in the oven cook a dozen at a time and freeze the ones you don't eat.

I’ve tried this, with the potatoes sealed in a ziplock bag with as much air removed as I could, but the potatoes were very watery when thawed and not very pleasant when reheated. Is there a step I’m missing out,@eatdrinkandbemerry ?

malificent7 · 11/07/2023 02:50

Turmeric with black pepper capsules eases joint pain and inflammation in the body staving off dementia and cancer too. The consultant radiologist I used to work for swears by it so it's not woo.

Don't thaw. Cook from frozen.

Cut pizza with scissors

This has been said many times on this thread - possibly the most common tip on here.
However, I don't see the problem with using a sharp knife, or one of those circular cutter things?

only if it's at the right height for you. DP put one up and he's a foot taller than me. Smile

Install a pull out mirror at a 90degree angle means it becomes height adjustable to cater for 2 people with significant height differences

Thesenderofthiscard · 11/07/2023 07:12

You don’t need egg slicers, or stone removers, or bagel cutters, or any of those.
yiu need a good, sharp knife!

I agree with you! That's the basic kitchen tool. A million uses.

BittenontheBum · 11/07/2023 08:28

If you have fungus gnats set water traps with a drop of washing up liquid and vinegar (apple cider seems to work the best of those I've tried) and they will jump in there.
I'm definitely not saying it's a cure but it helps (along with sticky traps, topping the soil with sand/shingle, and spent matches in the soil)
Shouting dementedly definitely doesn't work 😒 🤣

Throw your windows open in the morning when it is cool, then close them and the curtains while the day is hot. Open again in the evening when/if it cools down again. I'm amazed lately how many of my neighbours do the other way around, their homes must be like an oven. 🥵

Yes!! I don’t understand people who don’t do this and then complain about a hot house. I learnt this off a German friend.

Cut chili's with scissors. Herbs too.
Freeze bananas for healthy ice lollies.
Wash your hair once a month in fairy liquid or hand wash to remove build up of products.

Or baby shampoo which is helpful if you actually have it!! But I'm going to use fairy liquid next time and see how that works!! Cheers 🍻
