To be so sick of Pitbulls

On holidays and DP nearly had his throat ripped out on our walk home tonight, it was terrifying, owner dove in at last minute and pulled dog back. I know many people say they are great dogs, great with children, blah blah blah, but I’m just sick of encountering them and worrying about them attacking my own little dog….and my own little DP 😃

GeriatricMumma · 09/07/2023 14:11

@Folioh well that makes no sense because plenty of non police own them?

TheoTheopolis23 · 09/07/2023 14:11

GeriatricMumma · 09/07/2023 11:25

What about hunting breeds?

What about labs?

Do you actually know what labs do when used for hunting .... Or any hunting dog for that matter?

Are you aware of the difference between those tasks and the bull baiting, attacking and fighting other dogs that fighting breeds have been bred for?

Do you think it's a coincidence that pretty much this entire thread of posters disagree with all your posts?

@herewegoroundthebastardbush I definately don't own a dangerous dog. My dog is well trained and socialised. In fact he's a very well loved local celeb 😂😂

A dog can hardly become a "local celeb" by being unassuming and keeping to itself. I would hazard a guess that your dog isn't as universally loved as you think.

Unless you are going to drip feed that you live in America. I can be almost sure you didn't encounter a pit bull on this or any other occasion. The few idiots who do have proper pitbulls in this country do not walk them during the day amongst members of the public for fear of being reported and the dog being destroyed. They keep them in fighting condition to terrorise gang rivals, to take on drug deals or for dog fighting.

Lol I know someone that has 2 and walks them every day during the day. So it's entirely possible they were.

Is the position of moral superiority any consolation whilst a kid is in emergency surgery as a direct result of deliberately making them as appealing as possible to an animal with a high prey drive, though?

It's like somebody stepping out in front of a car that isn't slowing down on the basis that the Law says they have to stop and shouldn't have been going that fast in the first place - the fundamental Laws of Physics don't give a shit for moral outrage.

This is a false equivalency. Cars stay on roads/drives/car parks. Children don’t need to and shouldn’t be running about in these places.

When you say parents should teach their children not to run near dogs you are effectively saying children should not run in playgrounds/ village greens/parks/beaches/on moorland or in woods and forests- all places where multiple dogs will be and where children should be able to play freely.

GeriatricMumma · 09/07/2023 11:12

@TheoTheopolis23 so you are saying ALL bully breeds are bred for fighting?

Whether a Great Dane or golden retriever is bred for fighting or not is irrelevant - they can and do bite.

What about a GSD or mallinois bred to bite by the police - should they be put to sleep?!

The breeds have been bred for baiting & fighting. Not sure what you're confused about there.

All dogs can bite. As can horses, goats etc. They have not been bred to attack and fight however.

What is your point about police dogs? I don't get it I must be very slow today. Are police dogs that have been bred to bite wandering around the streets, parks etc among unmuzzled and under the "control" of untrained non professionals?

Are you actually suggesting that - because people (a certain type of person generally) choose to own fighting breed dogs and gave them around kids etc in their homes and in the streets ... That police dogs - trained and kept by the police for certain tasks shouldn't exist.

Your "logic" would twist anyone's head into noodles..... Because there is no logic.

GeriatricMumma · 09/07/2023 14:18

@TheoTheopolis23 what breed of dog do you own, remind me?

Screamingabdabz · 09/07/2023 14:18

The defiant and defensive dog lobby trying to gaslight and minimise as per. 🙄

TheoTheopolis23 · 09/07/2023 14:20

GeriatricMumma · 09/07/2023 14:18

@TheoTheopolis23 what breed of dog do you own, remind me?

Why would I need to remind you?

Remind is stating something that the audience already knows ..... And you don't already know whether I own dogs or what breed.... So you don't need reminded.

Do you not understand the meaning of the word remind either?

Do you usually have such difficulty with the English language?

GeriatricMumma · 09/07/2023 14:23

@TheoTheopolis23 no dog then?

TheoTheopolis23 · 09/07/2023 14:25

GeriatricMumma · 09/07/2023 14:18

@TheoTheopolis23 what breed of dog do you own, remind me?

There is an implication in your failed attempt at sarcasm that - because you own a dog or dogs - you know more and know better that someone who you presume doesn't own a dog or dogs ..... Big and silly presumption in the first place.

But let's pretend you're talking to someone who doesn't own a dog - for the sake of exploring your bizarre claim to superior knowledge.....

Idiots and non idiots alike own dogs. The whole gamut, the whole spectrum in between.

There is no automatic conference of knowledge, of good sense, or responsible, or wisdom or anyone by owning a dov or dogs.

You don't have any superior knowledge or wisdom or judgement to anyone else .... Dog owner or not on this subject ... And your incredible arrogance and delusion in thinking you do just proves the point.

If you own a bull terrier breed - which you appear to - as I said above, that immediately puts you in a certain group. And I'll be honest, I've not yet met a person whose judgement and intellect I'd consider sound in that group. That is consistent across everyone I've ever known who owns them.

Folioh · 09/07/2023 14:25

GeriatricMumma · 09/07/2023 14:11

@Folioh well that makes no sense because plenty of non police own them?

Obviously. But the question was should the ones police own be banned?

GeriatricMumma · 09/07/2023 14:28

@Folioh incorrect - I said bred by the police - not owned.

You know they don't stay with the police forever right?

Folioh · 09/07/2023 14:28

@GeriatricMumma

What about a GSD or mallinois bred to bite by the police - should they be put to sleep?!

This was your exact question. My answer is that dogs bread and trained by the police are not the ones causing the problems- the police train them better than joe blogs who bought his off Facebook to impress his mates.

So xl bully breeds who are trained are ok then?

TheoTheopolis23 · 09/07/2023 14:31

GeriatricMumma · 09/07/2023 14:23

@TheoTheopolis23 no dog then?

Everyone; Bull terrier breeds are more dangerous than other breeds.

You; remind me what type of dog you own?

Best you don't own a dog?

So you don't own a dog?

So, no dog then?

No wonder you own that breed, you do like to bait, don't you?

No logical arguments though.

Just a load of irrelevant, invalid "comparisons" and nonsense.

You're proving what I've said upthread about my experience of the type of people who own those dog breeds.

GeriatricMumma · 09/07/2023 14:35

@TheoTheopolis23 I don't own any form of bully breed - never have, never will.

Don't like the look of them (aesthetically) and I don't like muscly looking dogs.

I've owned weimaraners, airedales, dobermans, Rottweilers and currently have a Doberman now.

Sorry to disappoint.

GeriatricMumma · 09/07/2023 14:36

@TheoTheopolis23 oh and feel free to check back my post history, you'll see I have spoken about my dobie before.

You haven't at all dear .... The only breeds that come close to bull terriers for "owner personality" consistency in my experience are Rottweilers and Dobermans.

Why would anyone bother doing that?

What has that got to do with the debate around bull terrier breeds?

Which you're bizarrely trying to conflate with hunting dogs and police dogs.

BigBoysDontCry · 09/07/2023 14:40

We have a lot of XL bullies near us, they are very strong intimidating dogs, locals are breeding them . They have killed a small dog and a deer and chased kids in the playpark. Dog warden's hands are tied until one attacks a person.

They need banned.

Killings by dogs have increased from approx 4 per year to 10 and the increase is solely down to these breeds.

They have wide strong jaws and are very muscled, their owners aren't usually strong enough to hold them.

GeriatricMumma · 09/07/2023 14:41

Yes of course, the terrifying Doberman and Rottweiler

Coming from someone who has clearly no knowledge of the breeds once again.

Say you know fuck all about dogs without saying you know fuck all about dogs 😂

Do you really? Actual proper pitbulls not some bully mix that they like to boast are pitbulls? Why haven't you reported them then?

OldTinHat · 09/07/2023 14:41

Jinnyjoes · 09/07/2023 10:47

Yep, and in fairness I wasn’t going for 100% accuracy, was not writing a police report, just expressing that I’m sick of these dogs not being muzzled or on a good strong lead - whatever variation on bull terrier they are. There are a lot of them where I live and I’ve had to change my walking habits to protect my little doggy who has no sense and growls at them 😂

So you have an aggressive dog OP? I hope it is muzzled and kept on a short lead. Size is no excuse.
