Please make it stop!

My husband and I went out to dinner.
Our friends invited my husband and me to dinner.

It's not rocket science.

Regardless of any level of education received, it's a great thing to keep wanting to improve as we go through life. Understanding words, their use, and spellings doesn't just stop at age 16. It's a very worthwhile thing to continue learning, instead of having an instant knee-jerk, aggressive reaction about the topic.

This is true but, actually, making people feel embarrassed is just as - if not more - likely to deter them from wanting to engage with the subject of grammar. The snobbiest comment on this thread was by far the idea that using correct grammar was 'pretentious', but some of the subsequent posts on the 'opposing side' are getting a bit pissy. I have the impression that 'myself and Dave are going to the pub' is now in the same category as 'me and Dave are going to the pub' in the UK. It's not 'pretentious' but is in fact what people have been brought up hearing - both on TV and in the home/workplace - and is now accepted as commonplace usage rather than 'pretentious (aka 'trying to sound fancy').

So what's your proposed solution to prevent these grammar crimes? Or is this just a moan?

I judge people more for whinging than bad grammar.

I don't.
