AIBU school uniform

Am I being unreasonable to refuse to buy new shorts?

The school uniform states plain Black shorts for PE but the teachers have been commenting on my child’s shorts and telling them they are not appropriate.
They are proper ‘sports’ shorts and not that it matters but they are not cheap, they’re good quality, good fit, they don’t fall down etc.
I just don’t see what the problem is and what infuriates me is that they keep telling a 4 year old rather than telling me why there is a problem…after all, it is me who is buying the uniform and not my child.

Also, are we not supposed to be building children up, not making them feel self conscious?

What’s the point of starting a thread if you don’t even want to divulge key information which determines if you are or aren’t BU?

  1. You seem to have an issue with anyone who is ‘different’, this isn’t good!!!
  2. The shorts aren’t different, they are plain Black shorts.

You know that 'uniform' literally means 'the same'. The whole point of a school uniform is that everyone wears the same thing. It's not about having an issue with people who are different.

Yellowlegobrick · 06/07/2023 19:59

Im willing to bet the shorts are either:

  • too short
  • too tight/cycling shorts (not allowed in many schools
Barbie222 · 06/07/2023 20:01

These threads are tedious. What are we supposed to say? Do some adulting and sort it out for next year. It's really not difficult!

So when you asked his teacher what the problem is, what did she say?

As far as i can tell, op made herself available but didnt actually ask. Because she knows theyre not appropriate and maybe gets some sort of buzz from having her child feel anxious about it so she can feel superior? Like a bully…

or maybe not. Maybe op will actually say what the shorts are.

I bet someone is practicing their sad face hoping to be picked up for an article in an infamous paper...

They're not black. There you go!

Notmyfandango · 06/07/2023 20:08

They are GREY ! not Black

MumblesParty · 06/07/2023 20:08

I think your child is probably making it up, and no one has said anything about the shorts.

Ijustdontknowwhattodo1018 · 06/07/2023 20:08

Absolutely not my style!!

Why don’t you ask the teacher?

Justjn1 · 06/07/2023 20:09

Ijustdontknowwhattodo1018 · 06/07/2023 19:18

No, they’re not confused. They comment every PE day. I make myself available every morning and afternoon, there has been plenty of opportunity for them to speak to me.

When you say you've made yourself available, have you actually approached them and just asked the question?

Janedoe82 · 06/07/2023 20:09

They look like girls shorts. Why not just get loose fitting rugby style shorts.

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 06/07/2023 20:09

They're grey. Problem solved.

Barbie222 · 06/07/2023 20:11

This is like the 'is it blue?' 'is it gold?' dress meme

Ijustdontknowwhattodo1018 · 06/07/2023 20:09

It’s the lighting!! They are very Black!!

they don't look black

and again, ASK THE TEACHER.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/07/2023 20:11

I'll repeat, OP

what did the letter say specifically about the shorts

MumblesParty · 06/07/2023 20:12

This is like posting “I’ve been told off at work, does anyone know why?”

EmeraldFox · 06/07/2023 20:12

Those are for gymnastics or for wearing under a dress, they likely meant loose rugby style.

Whatwouldscullydo · 06/07/2023 20:14

They do look grey however for 3 weeks they are fine. Just replace when s/he grows out of them. If the school is so trouble free they can disappear down a " how many washes is to faded a black" rabbit hole they should consider themselves lucky and look forward to the 6 weeks off.

Ijustdontknowwhattodo1018 · 06/07/2023 20:06

Here is a photo of the shorts…

So if you’re so insistent that you’re right what did the teacher actually say about it?

Imo pe shorts are loose sports shorts not tight hotpants and those are the latter.
If everyone else wears shorts like this then your DC will stand out a mile.
