Permanently banned for ‘promoting hate’

RumAndReisling · 04/07/2023 13:32

Following ten years uneventful membership of a major social media site I have been permanently banned for ‘promoting hate’.

Never again will I be able to participate on that site.

My crime? Saying that if you had given birth to a child, there was no way you could literally change sex and produce semen to father one.

Is this not a statement of fact, or is this now unacceptable to say?

AIBU to say that my husband isn’t able to give birth?

Intersex folk can give birth. Why are you so concerned about what people have in their pants

People with DSDs still have an underlying sex.
If someone with a DSD can give birth their sex is obviously female.

My understanding is that any single type of DSD only occurs in one of the two sexes. It can't occur in both.

The existence of people with DSDs is irrelevant to the discussion regarding whether you can change sex (you can't) or men can give birth (they can't).

But this conversation isn't about intersex people, it's about men and women? The existence of intersex people is not evidence of a third sex. The vast vast majority of transwomen are not intersex, they are men.

Only female humans can give birth. Look right across all the mammals and you'll find that in every species it's the same - only the females can give birth and produce milk. This is what being female means - having a body organised around the production of large gametes, i.e. eggs, and capable of gestation and lactation, if everything goes as would normally be expected after conception. Not all female humans will actually give birth and produce milk. Not a single male will, though, because they can't.

Intersex is a term which is misleading and offensive to many people with DSDs because it implies that they are neither male nor female. The inter- bit makes it sound like they fall between the two sexes, when in fact they are almost always clearly either male or female.

Gender identity is a protected characteristic. I don't see why you think you spouting conspiracy theories and hate is somehow OK. There are agreed terms of use, review them.

No, it really isn't. And the fact you think it is, is a problem.

Its biological sex and gender reassignments which are protected traits. Gender Id isn't.

A lot of individuals and sadly, organisations, get this wrong.

Naunet · 04/07/2023 15:44

It’s absolutely ridiculous. We’re all meant to pretend that we’re thick as fuck and know nothing about biology anymore, all in order to pander to men who want to wear us as a costume. I will never pretend I believe something so obviously false.
No one has ever gone from producing sperm to eggs, or from eggs to sperm. Sorry TRAs but if you can’t handle that fact, get therapy and learn to cope with reality rather than trying to force people to play pretend with you.

@AmuseBish It's transphobic to use sex and gender interchangeably?

Yes, it can be, depending on context - one definition of 'trans' is someone whose sex and gender differ. If you say they are the same thing then it is not possible, is it, to have a gender that is different from your sex.

Personally I don't believe that gender identities can 'match' a sex any more than a race can match a nationality - they are separate things - but people seem to think only one sex aligns with some genders, and only the other aligns with others (I have yet to find out definitively which).

What I think doesn't matter

Unless you've been living in a cave for last ten years, everyone should know the risk of comments like that on Facebook, Reddit etc

Hmm. I have made similar comments on FB. I was banned for a few days once. Couldn't be arsed to find out why though.
Binned Reddit when they deleted r/ gcfeminists.
YouTube is OK right now afaik?
Twitter ...I confine myself to liking comments , engagement is futile and potentially dangerous.
It's depressing but such is the world we live in. Could be worse. Could be 2017. The wheel is always turning though and fashions changing....

loislovesstewie · 04/07/2023 15:48

Because what people have in their pants is relevant to their sex, it's not the only relevant consideration but part of it. If I wanted to have a relationship with a man then I know exactly what I want; XY chromosomes and the usual genitalia.I don't want a man in a dress, who has modified his body in the hope of being female, neither nor do I want one of these, XX ,who is saying they are male. Others might be happy with other circumstances, that is their business, I want clarity and for words to describe precisely.

I don’t care what’s in your pants, but I am concerned about what’s in your head. ‘Intersex’ people (you mean people with DSDs) are still male or female and only females give birth. Don’t get angry at other people just because you don’t understand very basic biology, or at least are pretending not top in order to comply with an ideology.

*The context was someone saying there wasn’t a clear way to define male and female.

And I was asking that if that wasn’t the case; why did only some of us give birth? *

@FOJN I was referring to this post.

Again, I agree with you that men cannot give birth, but using this example to define men and women is a poor and incorrect choice.

Yes it is a poor example and hurtful for women who can't.

It’s trans bashing to not play pretend that people can literally change sex?! 😂

Exactly. I divorced my first husband for that reason.

Why does a fact need context? There is literally nothing contentious about what the OP has said.

Why is woman in inverted commas? You know that equals adult human female , so why?
