Trying to work out if it is good or not. Does this look like a child that has artistic potential and how old would you expect the child that drew that to be?

Whether it's 'good' or not is very subjective.

I'd say the artist was about 10.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 29/06/2023 17:14

Fiftyfuckingseven.

What are honestly the point of these threads? Just say 'My 9yo painted this, and I think it shows they have potential, any advice?'

musixa · 29/06/2023 17:15

10

MysteryBelle · 29/06/2023 17:15

Yes to artistic potential. Not sure about age because every child is different. The proportions are largely correct which are an indicator. And the portrait is pleasing to the eye. Observant use of colors to portray royalty. I remember reading in the OT as a kid the colors that were to be for the temple fabrics were gold, purple/blue, and red. No green interestingly (because it’s not a primary color?) Of course the British royal family are dressed in those colors. The artist seems to be going by a picture. Is that Princess Catherine? 😀❤️ But yes, you have a young artist there.

CafeNervosa · 29/06/2023 17:15

9-11. I don’t know a 6 year old that would have that level of observation.

CecilyP · 29/06/2023 17:17

Nine!

MysteryBelle · 29/06/2023 17:17

That looks like Princess Catherine’s nose, eyebrows, eyes, blue sash, hairstyle and red lips the day of King Charles’ Coronation.

TheWalrusdidbeseech · 29/06/2023 17:17

I bet the cat drew that.

The cat is very talented, whatever his age.

Carpediemmakeitcount · 29/06/2023 17:17

Year 7 student 11 or 12.

Iamacatslave · 29/06/2023 17:19

@TheWalrusdidbeseech how old is the cat?

Comedycook · 29/06/2023 17:19

Its Queen Victoria right?

Psiaspops · 29/06/2023 17:19

7-8

Uncanny.

Thesearmsofmine · 29/06/2023 17:21

I’m going to say 8.

Nanaof1 · 29/06/2023 17:21

I'd say 9-10 years old. It's very nice and if done from memory or an idea, it shows good composition. If it's a copy of a picture, it's still nicely done but easier to do.

Oh, heck if I know! I am still trying to learn to color inside the lines! 🙃🤔😉😎

TheWalrusdidbeseech · 29/06/2023 17:20

Uncanny.

LOL hey, I immediately thought of Catherine when I saw the art, maybe the artist and I have faulty memories! 😂

It’s the nose! That is Catherine’s nose, is it not? And eyes, eyebrows,…Oh no, I better stop now 😂

FancyFanny · 29/06/2023 17:24

I think that drawing would be around average for 9-11 year old. I work in a school and plenty of the Y6 class couldn't produce work like that- although some of the more able Y4 children could and some of the Y6 children could do better than that.

tarvey · 29/06/2023 17:24

i'm an artist and I would guess that a 6/7 year old did this and traced the image

Twonewcats · 29/06/2023 17:24

Are we going to get told the age eventually or...?

Lifeomars · 29/06/2023 17:25

Love it, great use of the space, good choice of colour and the whole composition draws the eye in. Age 11?

LaMaG · 29/06/2023 17:25

I'm guessing 8, and its good for that age, amazing if 7 yr old. 10/11 then i'm less impressed, my kids can do similar.

Did someone upthread seriously guess 3!???

WonderfulUsername · 29/06/2023 17:27

Why do people go so low on these threads?

5 years old, my arse! 🤣🤣

I'd guess around 10 or 11 years?

BodegaSushi · 29/06/2023 17:27

Oh dear is it going to turn out to be OP's gifted 12 year old 😬

Anyway I'd say 42 Grin

SideWonder · 29/06/2023 17:28

It looks like they've copied it from a book or original painting.

Why are you bothered about "artistic potential"? If a child has talent, it will show, but there's a lot more to "artistic potential" than being able to copy or draw.

ThisWOMANWontWheesht · 29/06/2023 17:28

You can't really comment on potential based on one drawing; sometimes a child has copied something well, or just "gets lucky". There would have to be a few pictures by the same "artist" before anyone could get an idea of their talent.

I guess the picture was done by a 10 year old.
