Trying to work out if it is good or not. Does this look like a child that has artistic potential and how old would you expect the child that drew that to be?

I know adults that couldn’t draw that well so could be any age really. I’m guessing at least 9 because of the eyelids and under eye bags, don’t think a younger child would be likely to include that much detail. Not sure I buy artistic talent as a concept if we’re talking about accuracy- it’s more a love of art and a lot of practice!

Candymay · 29/06/2023 16:34

Aged 10 and I love the style.

cannotfindanickname · 29/06/2023 16:36

I am an artist. Regardless of the age it is a good drawing.

ColonelPine · 29/06/2023 16:36

That’s a wonderful picture in its own right and I’m impressed with it whatever the age of the artist! I’d be especially impressed if it was done by anybody younger than 12 though. As others have said, the facial features (particularly the nose and mouth) are quite naive but, whether that was done as a stylistic choice or not, they work very well with the picture as a whole in my opinion.

Mumtothreegirlies · 29/06/2023 16:37

5 or 6??

PrincessHoneysuckle · 29/06/2023 16:37

TheWalrusdidbeseech · 29/06/2023 16:37

Looking at the class tea-towel that just landed in the school bag, I'd say could be a Y2 who likes drawing, or a Y4-5?

gogomoto · 29/06/2023 16:37

It's good, I couldn't draw anything close to that

Floatydressbeachyhair · 29/06/2023 16:37

It's a lovely drawing for a child of any age.

It's impossible to put an age on it because there are adults who couldn't draw like that.

I would guess probably 9 or 10.

HarrietStyles · 29/06/2023 16:38

I think it’s great. My kids are keen artists, I’d say it looks like something my 8 year old would produce.

Dinoswearunderpants · 29/06/2023 16:39

Come on OP, this is Mumsnet. Even if people think this is brilliant, which I'm not really into art, but I can see the potential here. You know people will knock you down and say they think their 5 year old can do better.

Just get it over with and tell us how old your budding artist is lol

Hoolahoo · 29/06/2023 16:39

It could be any age. I'm in my 30s and I couldn't produce anything close to this. But when I was in school there was a girl who could've done this at 7. I like it though!

whataboutme77 · 29/06/2023 16:40

Somewhere between 7 and 9. They've obviously worked hard at it and the attention to detail is great so they should be proud of it.

Lullibyebye · 29/06/2023 16:40

I'm a teacher and would say it is similar level to children I taught in Y5 so if your child is younger, they are very good!

zurala · 29/06/2023 16:41

I think age 9/10 based on my children

You think a 5 year old drew this????

EachandEveryone · 29/06/2023 16:42

I don’t think it’s anything to do with age an adult artist could produce that. It’s a lovely piece of work and I hope you are proud of it.

fuckinghatepacking · 29/06/2023 16:44

It's good.

One of the tells that it's good is precisely that it is difficult to say what age of a kid produced it. The age doesn't really matter here.

Encourage your artist offspring OP!

Does this look like a child that has artistic potential?

No, it looks like Queen Victoria...

I like the bold red background. The face has character. It's a good drawing.

Unless you're telling us the artist is three or four, I don't think their age is significant, though. If you said they were 15, then I'd say they had artistic potential.

You think a 5 year old drew this????

I know! made me laugh out loud!

Mmhmmn · 29/06/2023 16:46

Don't overthink it - does the age matter? I love it regardless of the age. It's got attitude and style.

Anissue · 29/06/2023 16:46

It would be a good drawing whether the artist was 8 or 80. It’s great. Why do you need to ‘work it out’

NewNovember · 29/06/2023 16:47

Come on, a standard 5 year old could not do this.
