How many women do you know who doesn’t wear earrings?

Disclaimer: This is not to be taken too seriously and it’s not affecting my life in any shape or form!

So I’m 36 and don’t have earrings. Don’t like them. Don’t wear them. Don’t even have a holes in my ears. Even as a teenager when I guess you would beg to parents to pierce your ears, I passed that stage without any interest.

And funny enough, now when I’m adult I get ( not a lot but still ) remarks about it.

Like it’s some requirement for a woman to wear ones? Is it considered so normal that when you see someone without ones it’s like you discovered a whole new continent?

I don’t know, is it really that rare for a woman to not like earrings, not wear them, not have a wish to have them or not even pierce my ears?

😂

Unless someone is wearing big statement earrings, I have never even paid attention.
Now I feel like a weirdo because I don't notice if people have pierced ears or not, wear earrings or not!

For goodness sake Walrus, you'll never get invited to the uprising if you don't pay better attention to its likely instigators! 😀

Dahlietta · 28/06/2023 13:48

I never had mine done and I have had people comment a few times in my life, usually with a slightly judgemental tone! It seems such a weird question to me: "Why have you not had a hole pierced in your flesh so you can hang bits of shiny metal off it?" Why indeed.

Dahlietta · 28/06/2023 13:49

For clarity though, I do probably hold other unconventional views Grin

CharlotteFlax · 28/06/2023 13:50

I don't really notice tbh! Unless I see some amazing earrings and have to comment (which is quite rare as I don't go out much and work in a clinical area so no one wears them!)

I've had my lobes pierced three times and three times they've closed up, so even though I sometimes want to wear earrings, I've given up now. It's never occurred to me to wonder what people think of my lack of ear adornment!

DiscoDragon · 28/06/2023 13:57

I did have my ears pierced when I was about 5 and they got badly infected so let them close over. I had them done again in my teens but after a few years started getting allergic reactions to literally any type of metal, the holes are still there but I can't wear any earrings without my ears swelling up and hurting.

I've not worn earrings in over a decade and not one person has ever commented about it. Mind you my ears are always covered by my hair so people don't really seem them!

My daughter is 11 and has occasionally expressed a desire for pierced ears but when I've told her it hurts and about the potential for infections/allergies she's been put right off the idea.

Maddy70 · 28/06/2023 14:03

I stopped wearing them when we had to wear masks as they kept getting caught. Not worn any in three years!

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 28/06/2023 14:06

Mine are not pierced.

I had them pierced as a teen but I was rolling about on the floor with our puppy and one got ripped out. I had to let them close up while my ear healed. The thought of getting them done again gives me the ick!

putthatdownsteve · 28/06/2023 14:07

Me.

I’ve never worn any jewellery at all, not even a wedding ring. Can’t stand it.

ToWhitToWhoo · 28/06/2023 14:13

I don't know how many people do or don't; but I certainly don't wear earrings; am a coward about things like piercings, so never had my ears pierced; and have never had any negative comments about that, even as a teenager: criticisms of my clothes and hair, yes; but never about my lack of earrings.

readbooksdrinktea · 28/06/2023 14:14

More than I can count on two hands. I'm one of them.

Not so appealing when put like that 😀

I would never think of asking in UK, it's not that unusual. It is unusual in my native country though. I think there you realise and it may bring this question up.

yikesanotherbooboo · 28/06/2023 14:54

Not me and it has never been commented on.

LuckyPeonies · 28/06/2023 15:11

I don’t wear earrings, though I would love to. Had my ears pierced as a teenager, caught an infection, let them heal, started wearing earrings, caught dermatitis, then developed allergies to various metals, was told by dermatologist I can only wear 24 k gold or platinum, and finally gave up.

I do envy those who can wear them (which is pretty much every woman I know), but my hair usually covers my ears anyway so no one notices.

pinkksugarmouse · 28/06/2023 15:13

I like my earrings. I don’t have many but sadly in the past few years I have found that my ears hurt when I wear them. No rash or allergies but just feel irritated to a point of being very annoying. And not new ones. Ones I used to wear comfortably before.

Strange that this only occurred recently but then in the last few years I also suddenly began having allergic reactions to alcohol. I never drank much but now even a rum and coke can make my jaw seize up painfully. No point in going to a doctor just to say I can’t drink alcohol or wear earrings because clearly I don’t have to do either of these things.

IheardYouButDontWantToAnswer · 28/06/2023 15:16

I had my ears pierced when I was 20. I then developed an allergy to Nickel in my 30s so stopped wearing ALL jewellery, including a wedding ring

MushroomQueen · 28/06/2023 15:27

I'm your age- i have my ears pierced but not worn earrings in 10 years (had 3 babies 9,7 and 18m) so never wanted to risk it - I never ever notice if my friends are wearing them, I honestly couldn't tell you

mikado1 · 28/06/2023 15:29

Love earrings tho mine are fairly plain but I wear v little jewellery otherwise. Wouldn't noticed whether someone had ears pierced or not unless they had particularly nice earrings.

ChristinaXYZ · 28/06/2023 15:32

Never worn them. Never, ever had any comments.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! Non-jewellery wearer here, too. Never had anything pierced, and never had any comments.

I’ve never had a single comment! Not even about lack of wedding rings.

Shopper727 · 28/06/2023 15:47

Nurse and don’t wear any jewellery in or out of work, used to more when I was younger but was a faff taking things off for work then I’d forget to put them in again on days off so just stopped really - also lost something special

fyn · 28/06/2023 15:48

I only have one friend that doesn’t have her ears pierced, she does regularly wear clip ons though which must be uncomfortable! Most of my friends (late 20s) have multiple ear piercings despite being a pretty conservative bunch style wise.

WarmButteryCrumpets · 28/06/2023 16:00

I have pierced ears but only wear earrings if I'm getting dressed uo, and even then I might not wear any depending on what other jewellery I put on.

I've never had a single comment about my lack of earrings!

FOJN · 28/06/2023 16:12

I don't know how many women I'm acquainted with who don't wear earrings, I've never noticed. I might have noticed someone wearing a nice pair when I was in my 20's and I liked to wear earrings but I've lost interest now so don't notice at all.

I only wear small studs now and might change one set for another every month or so but other than that I don't wear any jewellery at all. If I hadn't had my ears pierced when I was a child I don't think I would bother as an adult, puncturing holes in your body to decorate yourself seems like a weird thing to do to adult me.
