How many women do you know who doesn’t wear earrings?

Disclaimer: This is not to be taken too seriously and it’s not affecting my life in any shape or form!

So I’m 36 and don’t have earrings. Don’t like them. Don’t wear them. Don’t even have a holes in my ears. Even as a teenager when I guess you would beg to parents to pierce your ears, I passed that stage without any interest.

And funny enough, now when I’m adult I get ( not a lot but still ) remarks about it.

Like it’s some requirement for a woman to wear ones? Is it considered so normal that when you see someone without ones it’s like you discovered a whole new continent?

I don’t know, is it really that rare for a woman to not like earrings, not wear them, not have a wish to have them or not even pierce my ears?

I haven't worn them for many years, holes have closed over. Nobody has ever commented.

Clarich007 · 28/06/2023 10:45

I'm quite surprised at most of these answers.
I was about 25 before I had my ears pierced. Maybe because it was so late I love wearing earrings. I wear them every day, don't feel dressed without them. All of my friends have pierced ears, don't know many that don't to be honest.

PurplePear7 · 28/06/2023 10:46

I have pierced ears but don’t often wear earrings because I’m usually rushing in the morning and forget 😂

My mum and gran don’t have their ears pierced - and my gran was very upset when my aunty got hers pierced (she was at uni!)!!

3sthemagicnumber · 28/06/2023 10:47

No piercings here. I had a needle phobia when I was younger and, though I've got over that for medical needles, the idea of choosing to make holes in yourself still makes me squeamish!

Daughters both made noises about it when they were young, but I always said it would have to wait until they were old enough that I wouldn't have to be involved at all and, now they are, they don't seem interested.

Couldn't immediately tell you if most of the women I know have pierced ears or not.

Me! Never had my ears pierced, never bothered as a teen and seemed daft to get it done as an adult. I've only had people comment when discussions have been about jewellery or more recently, when someone tried to sell me some home made ones!

ALittleBitAlexa · 28/06/2023 10:48

I'd say it's about 50/50, with the majority having ears pierced but some not wearing earrings routinely. I was adamant I didn't want my ears pierced in my teens and 20s but got them done in my early 30s and love it. I always hated wearing my hair up but a drop earring just changes my face and makes me look much more feminine.

wagnbobble · 28/06/2023 10:49

Me - from my 30s onwards my ears got inflamed with whatever type/grade of metal in the earrings I used, so I just gave up. Used to persevere for special occasions but cant be bothered now in my 50s. No one ever comments and I wear statement necklaces a lot so its not like I dont like jewellery

RudsyFarmer · 28/06/2023 10:51

I have holes on my ears but haven’t worn earrings for over twenty years. Now if o contemplate it I feel like a drag Queen. Same with necklaces. I just feel ridiculous and have to take it all off. All I wear is a ring.

DrownLoad · 28/06/2023 10:52

I had my ears pierced as a young child but I didn't care for them and the holes closed up. I haven't had my ears pierced since and I've no intention of doing so but no one has ever commented on my lack of earrings.

RudsyFarmer · 28/06/2023 10:52

I do appreciate jewellery on others! So it’s not a feeling I project on anyone else. It’s just my own personal madness. Can’t do it.

Clarich007 · 28/06/2023 10:52

I should add that as a kid we wore cheap plastic clip on earrings. They were so painful to wear, like torture. Pierced ears are so much better😊

EBearhug · 28/06/2023 10:53

I do notice the number that wear earrings the pool at aquafit, and I am sure chlorinated pool water can't be good for a lot of the stones. I do not wear them for swimming.

I don't notice most of the rest of the time unless they're particularly noticeable in some way.

My mother refused to allow me to get mine done as a child, and then I was swimming so much, it seemed a faff, and you're not allowed to give blood for a while... so I eventually got them done in Australia when I was travelling, because I'd been in malarial countries do wouldn't be able to give blood for a while anyway, and it was a 30th birthday present to myself. I did sometimes wear clips before that, but they're often painful.

Back home, my mother decided earrings really suit me, and she should have made me get them pierced years before...

AndrexPuppy · 28/06/2023 10:54

My mother doesn’t have pierced ears. She wore clip-ons (remember those?!) in the 80’s but nothing since.

I (40’s) do have pierced ears but just don’t bother to put them in 70% of the time.

My daughter has pierced ears and probably wears hers around the same frequency as I do.

redheadcurl · 28/06/2023 10:54

I used to all the time but I think my holes have healed up. Last time I tried they just wouldn't go in Confused

OfficerChurlish · 28/06/2023 10:58

Mine have never been pierced and while it's minor, the idea of inserting and removing (pierced) earrings kind of grosses me out - I worked in a nursing home part time as a student and sometimes have to help patients put their earrings on or take them off. I like the look of earrings IF I can't see where they connect to the ear - I have a few pairs of antique clip-ons but they heavy/pinch-y if I wear them all day.

The only time I remember people commenting on my unpierced ears is around age 12 or when most of my (female) friends were getting theirs done (except one friend who had it done in the hospital when she was born). BUT - surprisingly to me - I've more than once received pierced earrings as a gift.

EBearhug · 28/06/2023 10:58

Meant to add, I have a couple of friends who have never had pierced ears and one is really quite squeamish about the whole idea. Another whose ears healed over during lockdown because she just didn't wear them. Other friends I just don't know. I wouldn’t buy earrings as a gift unless I knew for sure the recipient did have pierced ears, because I know not everyone does.

user1469908585 · 28/06/2023 10:58

Never had mine pierced. Just never appealed to me. Daughter went through a stage of wanting hers pierced, but not willing to spend her own pocket money on it so remain unpierced too! She’s a part time job and plenty of cash now, so must have gone off the idea!

ShockingLipstick · 28/06/2023 11:01

I think it's very unusual for a woman not to have her ears pierced unless she was a tomboy I guess or has sensory issues for example. I would be surprised if they aren't pierced but I wouldn't be surprised or bat an eyelid if a woman doesn't wear earrings as I know they can be uncomfortable or get in the way.

I think I have known 3 women who haven't had their ears pierced but they had unconventional views about many other things.

When your hair is up a pieced ear can look odd naked just a dot there sometimes the dot is crusty or black or stained from cheap earrings. I like wearing something on my ears if my hair is up.

KimberleyClark · 28/06/2023 11:04

I have pierced ears but very rarely wear earrings. I wear glasses and worry about looking "over furnished"!

MrsK89 · 28/06/2023 11:04

I have 2 set of earring holes in each ear from when I was in my teens. Since having children though I stopped wearing them as they used to pull on them. Now when I wear them for parties or weddings it hurts my ears lol.
Always get comments from family why I don't wear them. I think each to their own. Not a requirement

Elevensesatnoon · 28/06/2023 11:05

I wear earrings daily - though normally the same pair but have lots of friends who hardly ever wear them . The same friends nearly always have painted nails though and I never do .. people are different

TabbyM · 28/06/2023 11:05

I did in my teens but ears oozed nastily even with gold so gave up after a few years and they have closed over. Never been given earrings except by my Mum during that period and nobody comments either way.

Floralnomad · 28/06/2023 11:06

I’m one of 3 sisters , all of us had our ears pierced as teens , now in our 50s and two of us don’t wear earrings and haven’t for many years the other one has multiple ear piercings . My adult daughter also doesn’t have her ears pierced .

Echio · 28/06/2023 11:06

Had ears pierced at 16 but let them close up by the time I was 20. Not worn since (am 39), and never been commented on.

I'm a no-make-up sort of person generally as I can't be bothered and don't really like the feel of it, plus I am a huge face-and-eye-toucher so I'd just be smudging and removing it with my hands anyway.

I guess no earrings just goes with my no-fuss face look? I wear make up maybe 4-6 times a year for the smartest type of engagements.

For jewellery, I have a simple gold chain I wear all the time, never ever any rings or bracelets etc.

I wonder if you're otherwise quite a jewellery or make-up wearing person if it stands out more?

(I enjoy appreciating jewellery and make up on others - just a fuss pot about how all these things feel on me- I feel strongly we shouldn't 'HAVE' to so like to not feel pressured about it)

Funkyblues101 · 28/06/2023 11:06

I don't have my ears pierced or wear clip ons and no one has ever remarked on it. I'm in my 40s.
