Cook smoking at takeaway?

girlfriend44 · 26/06/2023 18:16

The person who owns and runs a takeaway near me is always smoking!
He smokes outside before starting the Cooking and sometimes in the evening between customers?
Would this give you the Ick and is it allowed?
Can you smoke and Cook for the Public?

I've decided this is a smoker basher thread and I'm reporting......each to their own....you don't like it....you don't use it.....its a take away.....I'm pretty sure the smokers are the least of your worries......

I think its a takeaway bashing thread

veryfluffyfluff · 26/06/2023 19:58

How do you know they are the owner OP?

Maybe it's cos I'm a smoker that I've got a "chip" on my shoulder 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Brilliant. I am picturing someone dressed like a concierge, with a crisp white towel folded neatly over their arm, perfectly poised and waiting to dab.

Smokers need not apply

Brilliant use of the name change function

I've got a nose like a bloodhound and smoke lingers in the hair, on the clothes, your breath etc.

It doesn't linger on properly washed hands.

Assuming the chef isn't in the habit of rolling people's food around his clothes, licking it or rubbing it in his hair, I really can't see the problem?

I mean, that’s a novel way to prepare food. I wonder if Heston has thought about doing this.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 26/06/2023 20:39

I've literally never met a chef who didn't smoke.

Trinity65 · 26/06/2023 21:14

the Ick 🙄

YeahIsaidit · 26/06/2023 21:18

He isn't really doing anything wrong and assuming it's a decent restaurant, I'd assume he's washing his hands every time he has a smoke and before/after he preps something. I don't think I've met a single chef that didn't smoke, you may be horrified to know that many of the chefs I'd met are quite fond of cocaine too 😶

CrazyArmadilloLady · 26/06/2023 21:23

I don’t think it is a ‘decent restaurant’ - I think it’s a dirty takeaway, of which the OP appears to have quite the obsession.

@girlfriend44 - you realise it’s possible to go through life unaffected by takeaways, and without them impinging on your every waking moment?

Createausername1970 · 26/06/2023 18:36

If he has one on the go, Dot Cotton style, while he is hanging over the deep fat frier and dropping fat ash into your battered sausage, then that wouldn't be great. But health-wise, you are probably at more risk from a battered sausage than a takeaway cooked by a smoker.

I worked in a 5 star hotel in London in the late 70s and the head chef did this continuously, letting the ash drop into whatever dish he was making at the time...!

It looks awful when smokers smoke outside their place of work.

If you must do it, go round the back.

So it isn't a hygiene issue if he does it around the back of the shop, as opposed to around the front... where it will?

You're unhinged. Have a day off. x

FuckOffTom · 26/06/2023 18:56

What? Smoking outside on his break? Whatever next? Alert the elders!

I once farted and made a sandwich. It was wild.

😂😂😂

YeahIsaidit · 26/06/2023 21:28

It does sound like she's curtain twitching and watching him from her window 😐

HunterHearstHelmsley · 26/06/2023 21:29

The law states if you work as a cook anywhere, you must live in a bubble at all other times.

Ahhh maybe she wants to shut it down

Ollybob · 26/06/2023 21:33

I've worked with a fair few chefs, they all smoked (outside) during their shift, they all cared about their food and regularly washed their hands.
It won't cause any issue with the food and tbh there's probably more sweat in food rather than fag ash, ever worked in a hot kitchen?

Zola1 · 26/06/2023 21:37

Vegetus · 26/06/2023 18:29

I genuinely think most people who start threads don't live in the real world.

I second this opinion

What do you all do all day if this is the sort of thing that worries you

YeahIsaidit · 26/06/2023 21:41

Kinda unrelated but can someone tell me how to do the search please, I tried and it didn't work v well, I want to see other batshit takeaway threads

YeahIsaidit · 26/06/2023 21:42

Please*

I thought that was teachers 😂

OP YABVVU. All the chefs I have ever known have smoked. I used to work in a hospital, and a lot of staff smoked too... including theatre staff. I saw staff go out in their scrubs (with one of those flimsy jacket things on), have a ciggy then cover themselves in body spray before going back in to operating theatres.

itsmylife7 · 26/06/2023 21:50

I'd prefer a smoker cooking my food rather than a non hand washing, after using the toilet , cook.

ItsBritneyBitchhhh · 26/06/2023 21:51

I thought this was a joke thread….

Kendodd · 26/06/2023 21:51

Yuck
Has he got orange stained fingers he's making your food with?
