Cook smoking at takeaway?

girlfriend44 · 26/06/2023 18:16

The person who owns and runs a takeaway near me is always smoking!
He smokes outside before starting the Cooking and sometimes in the evening between customers?
Would this give you the Ick and is it allowed?
Can you smoke and Cook for the Public?

Don't you understand food hygiene, your hands are meant to be clean.

Do they not have soap and water where you live?

Is that a real job? Chef penis wiper?

& part time vag smudger

Brilliant. I am picturing someone dressed like a concierge, with a crisp white towel folded neatly over their arm, perfectly poised and waiting to dab.

How do people think this is acceptable? Smoking in general is absolutely vile but to do it in amongst cooking is just not ok. People who smoke can never smell it on themselves and everyone who smokes stinks of it.

It’s not “amongst cooking”, whatever that means. They stand outside and smoke. On their break. My god.

Gilmorehill · 26/06/2023 19:18

My dad was an EHO. He told me that the reason smoking was a no in the kitchen was because it involved the hand continually touching the mouth. I would expect that after having a smoke outside during a break, the chef would wash his hands before touching food, just as if he’d been to the toilet.

Do you ever eat out, have takeaways?

How do you qualify that none of the chefs smoke?

Who said I use it?

It’s right there in your OP, @girlfriend44!

”Would this give you the Ick….” (my bold).

The same could be said for eating but I doubt anyone would have an issue with a chef having a quick sarnie on his break. Ditto talking on a mobile.

Tbh, having worked in many kitchens when I was younger smoking chefs are the least of my concerns when eating out...

I think she meant she never actually said she used the takeaway. But the more people
that hear how cringey and pathetic that phrase is the better!

pinkfondu · 26/06/2023 19:32

So you know he doesn't wash his hands?

Smoke lingers. It stays on you. You can always smell it.

Smokers need not apply

I've got a nose like a bloodhound and smoke lingers in the hair, on the clothes, your breath etc.

It doesn't linger on properly washed hands.

Assuming the chef isn't in the habit of rolling people's food around his clothes, licking it or rubbing it in his hair, I really can't see the problem?

Exactly!

tenbob · 26/06/2023 18:29

Of course it’s really bad for food to be around any sort of smoke, which is why you never ever see things cooked on a bbq and humans haven’t spent thousands of years curing fish using smoke

Quite.

It looks awful when smokers smoke outside their place of work.

If you must do it, go round the back.

Actually a PP made me curious enough to AS the OP and put 'takeaway' in the keyword bit.

Jeez @girlfriend44 you really do have a thing about them, don't you? 😳

Why are you telling us that?

Go and tell him.

Or don’t use his establishment.

Whatever, really.

Not sure what you’re hoping to get from this thread?

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 26/06/2023 19:49

Not just round the back @girlfriend44 smokers should stand literally in the bin, but only if it's a bin hidden behind a tree and only if they're also willing to flog themselves with a barbed whip before scrubbing their hands raw, covering themselves in dettol and putting on brand new clothes after every cigarette. I mean don't they realise that they're offending you, for fucks sake, how do they even get through the day!

Those bloody buggers, smoking their legal cigarettes, legally in an outdoor space.

chupachucks · 26/06/2023 19:56

As others have said as soon as I read you used the word "ick" I rolled my eyes how old are you?

A smoking chef would be the least of my worries if my son had a girlfriend44 still use Ng words like this at an adult age.

CrazyArmadilloLady · 26/06/2023 19:56

What’s with the takeaway obsession, @girlfriend44 ? Advanced search is slightly boggling.

Are you quite OK….?

Dunnoburt · 26/06/2023 19:57

I've decided this is a smoker basher thread and I'm reporting......each to their own....you don't like it....you don't use it.....its a take away.....I'm pretty sure the smokers are the least of your worries......
