To ask for your best side hustles?

I’m 21 and working 40 hours per week in hospitality. As you can imagine this isn’t exactly bringing in mega money. I live in a flat-share and the bank of mum and dad is shut. Overall I’m just about covering my expenses but I want to make a bit of extra money on the side. So Aibu to ask for your side hustles, second job ideas, ways of making money online etc?

The most popular one is online surveys but honestly you only earn pennies.
Someone will come along and say match betting I’m sure as as someone who does it, yes it does bring in money but it’s not easy at the start, requires a start up fund, and not as lucrative as it use to be.

Your best bet is to try and cut down your expenditures instead, or look for a higher paying job.

Sadly there is no quick easy (legal) way to make money or everybody would do it!

Study part-time towards a qualification towards a higher-paying job. Taking the long view, that's going to be much more rewarding than doing a bunch of surveys.

determinedtomakethiswork · 26/06/2023 16:43

What are your qualifications and skills?

Lesschubtolove · 26/06/2023 16:54

Do you have any skills? (I don’t mean that to be rude) could you tutor? Going rate about £25 per hr, if you picked up 4 students it’s £100 a week or £400 a month?

my friend has an office job and works (cash in hand as a delivery driver on the weekends) ends up with about £80 a night so £160 extra week cash in hand or about £600 a month but they work 5pm til midnight those extra days.

Rent out a room. utilise/learn digital art skills for print on demand and pdf products. Dog walk locally. Take in small animals like hamsters, guineapigs etc for holiday boarding.

Ladyoftheknight · 26/06/2023 17:04

Any items you can sell? At your age I was doing quite well buying and selling items from charity/ebay on ebay, vinted is good for it too now. Don't overprice kids stuff/necessity items though, keep it ethical.

I was going to suggest the digital stuff. I'm a graphic designer and have just started putting together some downloadable wedding invitation packs to sell on Etsy to earn some extra money.

I've got one, but I don't want to to share sorry. Good luck and you need to work hard at it.

HerMammy · 26/06/2023 19:20

Why bother replying 🤣

Hoppinggreen · 26/06/2023 19:26

I do online video candidate assessment for a large PS organisation.
Its not every month but roughly 6 out of 12 and it’s around £600 pm extra done evenings over 3-4 days
Before anyone asks though they aren’t recruiting but others might be

If you aren't working nights, babysitting. If you have spare daytime slots, child care. Advertise on Nextdoor.

declutteringmymind · 26/06/2023 19:37

Yup. Train up and apply for bigger roles. There's a skills/labour shortage so make the most of it. If you've been in your job for a while it's possible that you could get paid better elsewhere.

icelolly12 · 26/06/2023 19:57

Do you drive? If not prioritise learning as plenty of flexible opportunities through driving plus will broaden your ability to get to other places for work.

Buy a van & do deliveries, small removals, luggage drops, DJ equipment transporting, contracts with local authorities (eg moving books between libraries). Van drivers are never short of work. 40 hours weekly in Hospitality isnt worth it, rubbish pay for a gruelling job.

Skill up. Apply for higher paying jobs.

LaLaRaRaRaa · 26/06/2023 20:55

Some quite good ideas here , I’m in a pretty good job but would like to earn extra ££ so following!

HerMammy · 27/06/2023 00:47

buy a van really? OP wants to make extra so I doubt outlaying £1000s is a plan 🤷🏼‍♀️ taking courses etc all take time and not bringing in immediate cash.
