Just bought some hotter sandals. They don't look that bad and are so comfortable @

The main downside of them is they can't be worn with a skirt or dress - that does look frumpy. But they are fine with shorts/trousers.

They can't? Or you wouldn't? They're 2 very different things.

BogRollBOGOF · 24/06/2023 19:52

My smart shoes are Hotter and look perfectly respectable, and are comfortable enough to wear all day. Win win. I've been wearing them since my early 30s and were a blessed relief of a discovery of spending my teens and 20s in a sucession of disappointing shoes in an attempt to look professional.

I do my best to live in Birkenstocks all summer and have a range of pleasant colours to go with most things.
They are definitely not granny shoes because I buy them in a children's shoe shop.

Life's too long to shred your feet in the name of beauty.

I'd better not get bunions in my old age though!

woodhill · 24/06/2023 19:53

I have those and they used to do narrow fits

Only thing is I find the footbeds get very sweaty

Saying that a pair of shoes are OK only if you're over 70 is snarky and ageist.
You aren't the poster who is being referred to, but crack on defending ageism and other women's choices.

I didn't defend ageism - I thought that post was rude.

However, I am allowed to say that I think the Hotter sandals I have look frumpy with skirts and dresses and therefore don't and there is no need for people to keep swearing at me for having the temerity to express an opinion they disagree with.

I do wear Hotter sandals (every day in the summer) with trousers and shorts, depending on the weather.

lieselotte · 24/06/2023 20:08

(I wear the Easy ones the pp has linked to)

Interestingly I borrowed a pair of my mum's Rieker ones when I was visiting her last weekend and they were really really hot. I was surprised sandals can be so hot!

True. I wouldn't. But I think it's clear that you can if you want to :)

CathedralHugger · 24/06/2023 20:16

Why do they smell so bad? They're sandals you can walk miles in but I have never owned any other item of footwear that develops such a bad smell, and is so resistant to all attempts to remove it!

KirstenBlest · 24/06/2023 20:22

@lieselotte , I bought the one DM wears and was reluctant to hand them over. She loves them and they're comfortable and not heavy.
I'll admit that the photo pp looks frumpy but they don't IRL.

It's ok to not like certain things, I think Birkenstocks are hideous- it's not a sexism thing, or toxic masculinity

Quite. I’m as feminist as they come, as well as being both old and built for comfort. The sandals the OP posted are still fugly, as are Birks and most Fitflops.

My rainbow tie dyed Crocs? Gorgeous and comfy, but I’m secure enough not to care if everyone else thinks they’re fugly!

mistermagpie · 24/06/2023 20:26

Do Tevas get sweaty? I like Birkenstocks and they are fine for my feet, but I bought a quite trendy pair of (leather) sandals from topshop and, oh my god, I was slipping around in them like nobody's business! I don't even think my feet are unusually sweaty but it has been quite warm I suppose...

SirVixofVixHall · 24/06/2023 20:29

My friend has those sandals, but in another colour. She is always beautifully dressed, and finds them really comfortable , she has a foot issue. I think they look great .

Haven't read the whole thread but have to say I'm getting on really well with these ...

They’re definitely comfort over style.

They are not as bad as those gopping Saltwater sandals.

Which sandals do you like?

I wear 2 pairs of shoes- black patent dm boots in the autumn/winter/early spring and plain black havaianas flip flops the rest of the time.

I’m probably not the person to ask about shoes… I had to buy a pair for a funeral the other day and my family told me I had bought elf shoes 🤷‍♀️

Bunions are caused by wearing shoes that are too tight, so wearing Hotter is a good way to avoid them. 😁

TheWernethWife · 24/06/2023 21:32

Messaged Hotter to complain that they had closed their shop in Bury (lancs) and where was the nearest exclusively Hotter shop. They obviously could not understand my query as they sent me a link to local shops that sold a small range of Hotter shoes.

Went to York last year and to my delight saw a Hotter shop, will be calling back.

Tomatina · 24/06/2023 21:43

Those look great!

I've only ever worn sensible shoes, not fashion; and I still had to have a bunion removed.

Panjandrum123 · 24/06/2023 22:32

Each to their own but my mother had the most hideous Hotter shoes and I’ve sworn I will never, ever own or wear a pair.

BarrelOfOtters · 24/06/2023 10:25

See

I actually think those are quite nice. But then I wear my running shoes with dresses and they are not even white. And I wear them with very visible socks too. But then I'm always late so need to be able to run in whatever I wear. I still feel good if I'm wearing a nice dress (from my knees up at least). :-)

QueenMegan · 24/06/2023 23:14

I bought a pair once. They weren't at all comfortable. Do they come up small

MimiGC · 24/06/2023 23:30

Surprised no one's mentioned Pavers yet...they are my go to place for shoes, boots and sandals, as I have weird and painful feet.

Lilyhatesjaz · 24/06/2023 23:53

I love hotter shoes. I have a bunion and their extra extra wide are just about the only shoes that fit me otherwise I wear clarks wide trainers 2 sizes too big.
Bunions are not caused by wearing tight shoes, they are mostly hereditary.
