Hotter shoes aren't that bad?

Just bought some hotter sandals. They don't look that bad and are so comfortable @

I love saltwaters - they're indestructible and great for my wide/flat feet. They're made of good solid materials not foam/canvas efforts which doesn't last. Had Tevas but didn't find them comfortable at all.

Giselletheunicorn · 24/06/2023 16:24

Have looked extensively at Hotter as have a ridiculous litany of issues with my foot mechanics which means I'm very limited in what I can wear. Most Hotter shoes are vile IMO, but occasionally they get it right. I would probably wear these:

I find that my Birkenstocks cause blisters on the arch of my foot if I wear them for too long. I have some Hotter shoes I've had for years but the most comfortable sandals I have are Josef Seibel, they must be about 10 years old and have travelled miles with me!
Victoria Wood once said in a sketch that she knew she was getting to be middle aged when she looked at a pair of shoes in a shop and thought 'Oh, they look really comfortable'.

These have rubbed/cut over the top of each of my toes. But if I loosen the buckle I'll feel my feet will be slipping forward.
Since these looked comfortable but really aren't maybe I should try the reverse and look for ones I think will be uncomfortable! 🤣

FrogFairy · 24/06/2023 15:17

@GulesMeansRed are the straps on those sandals stretchy? The soles also look as if they are cushiony.
If so, please do you have a link for them or remember the name of them?
They might just be perfect for my problem feet.

Yes they are stretchy. They are a sort of elastic thing - whole sandal can go in the washing machine. Arla Jacory, I think they were called. Discontinued - although I have just spotted a gold/beige pair on the Clarks outlet website for £20.

Xanadu58 · 24/06/2023 16:38

I've got 2 pairs of those sandals . So comfortable. I love them.

lurchermummy · 24/06/2023 16:38

I used to laugh at my Mum for wearing Hotter shoes. Now at 55 with aching menopausal feet, I love them. Some styles are better than others!

UthredofBattenberg · 24/06/2023 16:40

I know hotter shoes have a bit of an old lady reputation, but those doesn't look that dissimilar from Birkenstocks, which loads of younger people wear, so is it a brand thing, or...what?

Why the old lady reputation?

JohnNutLips · 24/06/2023 16:41

I have these in brown and they are very comfy. I have wide feet and a high arch so find it very difficult to buy shoes. I’m not really bothered if people think they look old fashioned - I like them!

Lottapianos · 24/06/2023 16:48

OF COURSE you can wear Hotter sandals with casual skirts and dresses! It might not be your sort of look but that doesn't matter. Who comes up with these daft rules?!

VimtoVimto · 24/06/2023 16:50

I like the look of those and like the fact the strap over the toes is adjustable. My feet tend to sweat in the heat and I’ve spent an absolute fortune on sandals that fit perfectly on a cool UK spring day, only for them not to fit on a hot summer’s evening abroad.

stickygotstuck · 24/06/2023 17:43

YANBU at all OP - those have been in my basket for a couple of weeks now!

Not only because they look very comfy, but mostly because I simply don't see what the anti-Hotters see. I think they look great, the nicest sandals I've seen anywhere this year.

Conversely, I think that the thinner soled type of sandal many fashion-conscious PPs seem to favour look mostly tacky 🙈 (plus unsupportive for most feet)

And yes, comfortable shoes are a feminist issue. If it's not (1) uncomfortable, (b) expensive or (c) a total waste of a woman's time, then it's not trendy or good enough. You haven't 'made an effort'. But the thing is, why should I make 'an effort'? Can I not just get on with living?

ShowOfHands · 24/06/2023 10:28

Bloody hell. I live in Teva sandals and have done so for 16yrs. They don't look atrocious at all.

Thankyou for saying this. My 12 year old ones have finally worn out, so just bought another pair that are almost identical… wearing them now. ☺️

DeclineandFall · 24/06/2023 17:48

Hotter Tourist sandals are the only sandals I can wear and walk in for hours. They need to bring back the silver square buckles though - it was bad enough when the put round buckles on them but now they are gold round buckles. It old ladyifies them. I nearly didn't buy a new pair this year then I relented. Still comfy but am tempted to look around for something else.

Beebumble2 · 24/06/2023 18:04

Sometimes Hotter get it right and then discontinue the style that was good. I have some similar Hotter sandals, 3 years old, superbly comfortable and still as good as new. So what did they do? Stop making them! If there was a warning I’d have bought another pair.

Haffiana · 24/06/2023 18:10

The most comfortable sandals I have at the moment - and I include my glorious SFB grey suede Arizonas that have completely molded to my feet - are Crocs. These ones:

LaPerduta · 24/06/2023 18:20

I bought some Clarks sandals thinking they would be comfortable. Not only have I got blisters all over my feet but I've nearly killed myself twice as they have a slight platform.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 24/06/2023 18:21

The black sandals look great Remus! I've been thinking about getting another pair, I've got white ones at the moment.

Lottapianos · 24/06/2023 18:23

Very much not the point of the thread, but I hardly ever wear sandals apart from a couple of smart pairs for work. I find they all rub or chafe or get uncomfortable somehow when you walk any distance. I live in trainers at the weekend, all year round actually. They can be hot, but way better for walking IMO

Thanks! I love looking stupid and frumpy. And grannyish. 😂

Great name btw

Gassylady · 24/06/2023 19:15

i have stupidly wide feet and a high instep. Hotter are one of the only places I’ve found that do a suitable width fitting in leather rather than synthetic uppers and if you think Hotter look grannyish then I have in the past had one pair of summer canvas shoes from DB shoes. You may need to sit down before checking out some of the styles on their website. Basically for many years I have had to buy what fitted rather than what is on trend. Good for you all those that have feet that mean you can buy from anywhere

AppaTheSixLeggedFlyingBison · 24/06/2023 19:23

Birkenstocks, Tevas, and Docs are popular with gen z on social media, so comfy sandals are in 😊

Mosaic123 · 24/06/2023 19:39

I have just bought some fabulous Fitflops on Amazon. They are called Rumba in Rose gold colour. So pretty. I'm wearing them with a long dress in the evening at a smart wedding. I think they are just right and so comfy.

KirstenBlest · 24/06/2023 19:40

My DM has these in a different colourway, as has her friend, and they've lasted a few summers, and she normally wears her shoes and sandals out very quickly. She says they're very comfortable. They look nice on and I'd wear them.

The tourist ones look great IMO, but I have birkenstocks. I didn't like the Tevas - didn't suit me, but I like the look of them online.

QueenVerilas · 24/06/2023 19:42

I only buy hotter shoes and Jones’ boots

Gettingbysomehow · 24/06/2023 19:44

I usually buy marks and spencers and Clarks online as I'm an annoying 5.5 E and they both stock that size.
