Anton Gerashchenko@Gerashchenko_enPMC Wagner wonders where Putin is?

There was a special broadcast on First Channel. In addition to reading the press release from the Federal Security Service, it was reported: "Putin has been informed of all of Prigozhin's actions and the necessary measures are being taken. That's all for now, we're following the progress of events."
And so are we. And where is Putin?

The Convoy has Passed through the city of Barabanovo, leaving around a 2 hour drive to Moscow.
Teams of excavators are digging the highways up right now..
A Special engineering operation no doubt.

On the surface it seems he’s gunning for Putin but lots of experts suspect he might be working with Putin to effectively get rid of the less than effective military command structures in Russia. Prigozhin even went so far as to say Putin was duped into invading Ukraine by his generals etc.

This was what sprung to my mind when I was watching the news this morning, also maybe Putin got a whiff of a coup from inside his own military ?

There was a sense that this was perhaps what was happening but opinion seems to be that Putin’s speech today confirmed it’s a genuine rupture in the fabric of the Kremlin.

Just place marking for now

Just watching bbc news now. What I can gather from their description this is a bad thing as they are absolute brutes.

Hohohogreenjennie · 24/06/2023 15:59

They’re in the Lipetsk province now and have advanced over 200 miles in a single day.

225 miles to get to Moscow.

Keeeeetones · 24/06/2023 16:02

Digging up the highway appears the only form of defence 😬

Brutes is putting is mildly, they’re the worst kind. Literal convicts in some cases (Prigozhin included)

Zebedee55 · 24/06/2023 16:03

Probably the start of a civil war over there.

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 24/06/2023 16:10

My russian history is practically non existent, but this whole thing reminds me of Catherine coup in “the great”

Hohohogreenjennie · 24/06/2023 16:26

The mayor of Moscow has just put out a statement announcing that "a counter-terrorist operation regime has been declared in Moscow" and that Monday will be a "non-working day".

He asked Muscovites to "refrain from travelling around the city as much as possible".

"City services are on high alert,"

Is the Russian airforce busy elsewhere ?

FruitTartlet · 24/06/2023 16:52

Escalating quicker than I thought. Poor Russian civilians living in this volatile situation.

Wagner have already downed aircraft and elements of the "Russian" airforce have sided with wagner.
Theres a lot of looking the other way and not answering telephones going on I imagine.

Igotjelly · 24/06/2023 16:59

I might be cold but I have little sympathy left for the Russian citizens. Yes awful that they’re in the centre of this but it’s just a taste of what Ukrainians have dealt with, and the Russian public have largely ignored.

I do agree. However, did they know? The propaganda machine is rife and access to other views is limited

This isn’t the 80s when there was no other media. VPNs etc exist in Russia. They may not have known the extent of atrocities and they may have suffered years of abuse and conditioning but many of them knew and the war certainly isn’t unpopular in Russia.

fair point and i would imagine if you lived under that regime you would try to use vpns etc. people who spoke out were punished though.
as I say my Russian history is non existent, I know a lot of Russians saw Ukraine as their brothers so supported the war to “free” them.

I think there is a fine line there between ‘brothers’ and ‘subordinates’

Russian...citizens...? Erm, you know that they are probably just like "us" spending their time on IG, Tik Tok, texting their boyfriends, some of them are pregnant, some others are mums.

It's not civilians/citizens attacking Ukraine, it's the army.

It's so bizzare you're commenting on people's lives like you yourself lived in Moscow or Kiev 😹

You have literally no idea where I live or am from. I have several close friends in Ukraine (Kharkiv mainly) and think I understand quite well the suffering they’ve endured.

I'm just miffed as you seem to be conflacting civilians, war and the politicians 😅

Placemarking.
Very interested, but not clued up enough to decide if its ultimately a good thing.. concerned at what Putin will do.

Dymaxion · 24/06/2023 18:09

I thought he started this because he was angry about the airforce targeting his troops either accidentally or on purpose ?
