Anton Gerashchenko@Gerashchenko_enPMC Wagner wonders where Putin is?

There was a special broadcast on First Channel. In addition to reading the press release from the Federal Security Service, it was reported: "Putin has been informed of all of Prigozhin's actions and the necessary measures are being taken. That's all for now, we're following the progress of events."
And so are we. And where is Putin?

This really is the decade that keeps on giving.🫣

Hohohogreenjennie · 24/06/2023 12:31

Wow they’re already outside Voronezh according to this update. It’s about a 6 hours drive to Moscow.

This is very very frightening. I will keep looking at the news to see what happens when they reach Moscow

Is it very frightening? Its one baddie or another!

Wagner are mercenaries so all that has changed is that the Americans are now paying them more than Putin was.

Doesn’t that depend on what they’ll do if they succeed?

They might be worse

TheWayTheLightFalls · 24/06/2023 13:04

I think it’s just Kabuki theatre for domestic viewership, orchestrated by Putin. Either to prop up support or justify some escalation.

I know a few people in Moscow and I would hate to see any innocent people get caught in the crossfire.

The prospect of Wagner is pretty terrifying - I think it would be worse than Russia under Putin

And I don't see any way that US would attempt to buy Wagner's services - not if you look at everything they've done in the last decade

Just had a pop up saying the Russians have shot up a Wagner convoy.

So even if the Wagner strategy includes "turning" elements of the Russian Army to their side, that's a reminder that there may be plenty of others they have to fight through

Hohohogreenjennie · 24/06/2023 13:13

If they are successful and do end up making it to Moscow, I wonder if they will actually overthrow Putin or just get rid of Shoigu and Gerasimov? Either way, it makes Putin look weak and his fragile little ego won’t be able to take that.

It's all a bit fall of the Roman Republic really ... might refresh my memory see what happened there.

The Rubicon has been mentioned.

For anyone interested would recommend this afternoons emergency episode of the Telegraph’s Ukraine the latest podcast. It’s currently live on Twitter and can be replayed from 2, usually on Spotify etc. from about 5pm.

The experts on there, who are really rather good usually, are totally shellshocked but giving a good analysis.

Hohohogreenjennie · 24/06/2023 13:23

Prigozhin is also questioning the motives of the invasion of Ukraine.

“The defence ministry is trying to deceive society and the president and tell us a story about how there was crazy aggression from Ukraine and that they were planning to attack us with the whole of NATO…The special operation was started for different reasons,”

“The war was needed … so that Shoigu could become a marshal, … so that he could get a second ‘Hero’ [of Russia] medal. The war wasn’t needed to demilitarise or denazify Ukraine.”

Here’s hoping that they either overthrow Putin and withdraw from Ukraine, or else the coup gives Putin the ability to withdraw troops after having found out he has been ‘misled’ by Shoigu (saving face) 🙏

I feel like this is Dune IRL, paid mercenaries turning on their emperor

the spice must flow

Much like how the US/UK etc. armed various Mujahedeen factions in Afghanistan to defeat Russia there.

The Mujahedeen that then took over became the Taliban.

Totalitarian regime descends into civil war. This isn't news. I'd be more shellshocked if Putin and Prigozhin turned up together and did hits from the shows to a Red Army chorus.

Hohohogreenjennie · 24/06/2023 13:26

A COBRA meeting has been called discuss the unfolding situation in Russia. It will be chaired by foreign Secretary James Cleverly.

Should add that I'm not suggesting I can say what's "better" or "worse" in these scenarios (in case my previous post implied this).

Yes but until yesterday Prigozhin was considered to be Putin’s attack dog, if somewhat unpredictable he was usually helpful for the ‘cause’.

I’d expect NATO to be doing similar, I hope? And US domestically

Yes agree and as bad as the Taliban is they stay to their country mostly. Who knows with the Wagner group

GuinnessBird · 24/06/2023 13:32

There is no way that Wagner has been brought.

Wagner have been stockpiling for months and now they have decided to seize the opportunity.

I'm not sure that they'll succeed, but the Kremlin is definitely worried, even more so because the Russian Army seems to be parting like the Red Sea to let Wagner through.

This is what happens when you treat your own army like shit, they won't protect you when the time comes.
