Supermarket delivery driver took photo of my passport- no age restricted items

NotmyRLname · 23/06/2023 19:33

Hi just had a delivery of groceries. My order contained no age restricted items- the most dangerous items were clothes pegs.
the delivery driver once I’d unloaded said I had age restricted items that required proof of iD. I asked what items and he said he doesn’t know just that his system flagged. I went to get my passport and he took a pictire
of it. I then went on the website and checked the policy they don’t say that they require drivers to provide proof of ID and the order didn’t contain age restricted items at all.
i know mistakes happen but I dunno why I feel weird about this

My son has been asked when I am not in - he is 19 and has shown his driving licence but never had it photographed.

Crikey on Mumsnet you are damned if you do and damned if you don't!@NotmyRLname I have sympathy for you, following advice to call the police then getting shredded for doing the same! To me if I thought something dodgy had been going on, then the non-emergency police line could give advice, which they did.
Plus all the people who would know exactly what to do in any circumstance and are astonished that others don't have that ability!
I hope you get a good resolution to this OP, please let us know the outcome?

@Pudmyboy yes it was the non emergency number and I just wanted to log it/have a record in case I do have some sort of identity theft issue. As it happened it wasn’t very useful anyway. Thank you 🙏 xx

I'd have told there was no way I was showing ID and if he wanted to he could pick the shopping up and stick it back on his van

You need to report him and possibly flag it up with the passport office

I’d have said no and closed the door on him if need be. The food is already in the house so I’d have told him to call the supermarket if he wanted but the shopping is mine. Assertiveness can come with age though and I’m at an age where I no longer do what I’m told just because someone said so.

How is saying from another country racist? You do know there’s a difference between nationality and race? If I said I don’t like Swedish meatballs would you consider that racist?

For the record I love Swedish meatballs. I see that posters getting their posts deleted.

It’s the fact that this poster has tried to explain their comments and each time their comment has got deleted😂 yet they still don’t see the problem? What a world we live in ey!

ItsBritneyBitchhhh · 24/06/2023 11:10

@chemistnightmare the post above was for you btw^

chemistnightmare · 24/06/2023 11:11

@willWillSmithsmith

There were several comments. They have all been deleted. That speaks for itself.

My comments were deleted because I asked MNHQ to delete them to prevent further derail.

Perhaps leave it?

SpringIntoChaos · 24/06/2023 11:29

If you had your shopping, and your 'most dangerous item' was pegs...why did you even engage in a conversation about ID? I'd have just told him to sod off and closed the door! Utter non issue! Are you always so bloody compliant and naive OP? Be more assertive in future...what on earth do you think is going to happen if you close your own front door on a delivery driver??? 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

anyolddinosaur · 24/06/2023 11:33

It is NOT normal to be asked for proof of age when you have bought nothing that is age restricted and the police should realise that. I dont let random people photograph identity documents, I suggest in future, OP, if obviously over age you tell them they can photograph you.

chemistnightmare · 24/06/2023 11:36

@willWillSmithsmith

If you are talking about me my posts were deleted at my request. You can ask MN to verify that if you wish. I wanted to prevent further derail which you seem to be attempting for no reason at all. It wasn't about fucking meatballs.

Yes this. When reading MN I do despair at the lack of (polite in most cases unless otherwise needed) assertiveness in women. I know it’s probably hardwired from way back when - and I wasn’t assertive in my younger days (to my regret) but when your shopping is in your own home and the person in question is a delivery driver then feel free to close the door on them and let them take it up with the supermarket. I know it can be difficult, I had to be assertive recently about some maintenance work that wasn’t finished (it doesn’t come naturally to me but I refuse nowadays to be a walkover). It’s so important women teach themselves to be assertive.

Hopefully the photo issue will be resolved and a valuable lesson learned (not having a go OP, I’ve had too many situations myself to be judgemental).

NotmyRLname · 24/06/2023 09:07

Definitely not lol it’s clear I’m over 30 even

Then it's definitely weird and you need to ask the store to explain what's going on.

robofw9 · 24/06/2023 12:04

Hi, all the supermarkets/deliverers have to have their data & privacy policy online somewhere & who is in charge of it.

EG https://privacy-hub.sainsburys.co.uk/ has direct phone & email for their privacy team. Suggest you find equivalent on your supermarket's central website & contact them direct. They can then contact the local supermarket.

I've had Rum and Raisin ice cream flag before, even though there was no actual rum in it 🙄

uncomfortablydumb53 · 24/06/2023 12:08

I've had to provide ID for alcohol in a delivery but it's never been photographed
Report asap

I had to get a member of staff to authorise my cucumber as it came up as a restricted item…

There are no words . . .

😳😂

Is that left over from the great Brexit/not Brexit salad restrictions?

chemistnightmare · 24/06/2023 12:35

@SunIsShininInTheSky

I reported your posts for racism. MN agreed and deleted them.

Now you are sending me PMs telling me to 'think in future' because makes you look awful now your posts have been deleted. Along with a patronising 'be kind'

I am not the one who made the racist remarks. The only reason it looks like you said something awful is because you did say something awful.

My posts were deleted because I asked them to be becsye they quoted your comments.

The fact that you still can't understand you were in the wrong is seriously worrying.

If there was an identity theft issue then 101 would redirect you to Action Fraud to report it. They have some tips on their website to follow if you’re worried about your identity being stolen which might be useful for putting your mind at rest.

He has taken a considerable amount of your data - DOB, full name, photo and passport number. I'd be calling the store immediately, this is unacceptable and in breach of gdpr. Don't forget he also has your full address, mobile number .. identity fraud screaming here.

Totally this !!

Worrying so - what can someone do if they have a photos of someone's passport - obv doesn't have their address

But name dob and passport number - can someone claim /do /impersonate etx with that info

NotmyRLname · 24/06/2023 15:03

UPDATE-

called the supermarket again who passed me from pillar to post before I got through to a “section leader” who said the restricted items were clothes pegs! 😂 but then said absolutely categorically that the driver was not allowed to take a photo of my passport. He also seemed to suggest this must have been taken on drivers own phone because he said he will ask driver to delete it off his phone. I asked for it to be escalated. I went on the action fraud website and the Cifas one that some lovely person here recommended and have paid to join the registration. Thanks everyone who made helpful comments- what was I thinking!? I dunno I suppose I was just a bit gaslighted and confused. Lesson learnt! Xx

ItsBritneyBitchhhh · 24/06/2023 15:30

Wow so one of the posters on here practically called it. Same thing happened to them regarding the pegs!

Still no real answer as to why the driver took a picture. Maybe to confirm he saw your ID if he was even questioned? Still strange though!

SinnerBoy · 24/06/2023 15:42

ISeeMisledPeople · Yesterday 19:45

Definitely report it. There is no need for him to take a photo of your id.

During the first lockdown, I did several months of delivering for Amazon. Some deliveries had requests for photos, but not of ID, just to show that the parcel had been left where requested.

Some deliveries were flagged up as needing to see ID, passport or driving licence. Some of them were ridiculous, including a book for a teenaged girl and a toy kitchen set, with harmless plastic cutlery!

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/06/2023 17:00

Glad you complained

Clothes pegs ?

Why need to be over 18

Are children not allowed to
Wash /hang clothes

Seems a little silly
