I was 22 having my first and will be 37 having my last. Just wanted to see is 37 a common age for having your last baby. I never dreamt I'd be pregnant at 37 . I always thought that it was a bit old. Now I'm scared that I'm just being selfish and could have a baby with lots of issues.

I find it interesting that we've got posters like the one above trying to rip me to shreds yet if a there was a post asking for help because a 19 year old daughter was pregnant while at Uni, there would be utter horror at the thought of a teenage girl giving up their degree to have an unplanned baby. There is so much hypocrisy in here it's untrue 😅

Any offended older mothers, please cry me a river. The first to tell young women to get an abortion and that they'll never achieve anything in life, yet get offended by OP asking for support.

BBYBjorn · 18/06/2023 19:10

I was 37. I personally think having a baby at 22 is more selfish as how on earth would you have a degree, a decent career going, bought a property and had a couple of years just being a married couple by that age? All of which I'd done by 35 when I had my first. Oh and they're both sensational kids!

... why do older parents always older compensate?

"Life is amazing for me, so perfect, couldn't be better. Can't fathom how anyone could live differently to me." Ok, sure. Projecting a tad, maybe.

All of these things are completely achievable for most people, it's a child not terminal illness.

Why would a 19 year old need to drop out of uni just because she’s having a baby??

ContinuousProcrastination · 18/06/2023 19:17

Just shy of 34. It was a year or 2 later than planned.

bakewellbride · 18/06/2023 19:17

32 with my second and last.

I have no idea, but she's on this thread somewhere so ask her and not me!

cadburyegg · 18/06/2023 19:39

30 when I had my second and last. My mum was 42 when she had me (her only child). We've both had our fair share of comments, and there are advantages and disadvantages at either end of the spectrum 🙂

Now I always find quite the reverse to be true, I can think of a few people that have suddenly mentioned they have no regrets about having a baby at 17 when talking about their adult children......

I had my first while in further education. Then had my second after a loss and back surgery while in college. A baby doesn’t stop your education if you are that way inclined. If anything it makes you work harder on it.

I was the only student in my college class with a child and a fiancé. And pregnant then not pregnant then surgery then pregnant. I was the first in my class to complete all my assignments and I finished with top marks.

Only thing I didn’t do as a teenager/20’s was shag around and travel, then struggle to find someone to settle down with. Such a huge loss to my life clearly.

Mimilamore · 18/06/2023 20:40

37... no big issues, had 9 year old twins and a 12 year old so was hard work and as she got older felt like she had 4 mums!

Older parents will always say no health issues, boundless energy, I have so much money, I have a house, I partied and travelled, I've never put a foot wrong in life. Good for them, I guess

Can honestly say I've never seen the reverse from younger parents, it's quite rare if it happens. I have seen people say it hasn't stopped them from achieving what they wanted, though. I think some people just pray for the downfall of younger parents and are weird when they refuse to admit that they're lives are ruined.

On the topic of education, when I was in third year at university, I had a few friends who were doing phds and masters. I'm now doing a post grad and know people with children in their 20s and 30s - successful, intelligent, motivated. Having a child doesn't stop academic or driven people from achieving what they want.

Autoire · 18/06/2023 21:31

39 one and only
But did expect again at 43 and 46 but they weren't to be.

Debini · 18/06/2023 21:33

I’ve just had a baby, she is 8 weeks old. I had her just before my 38th birthday.

user1469908585 · 18/06/2023 21:44

30 for me.

my friends are a real mix - some were very early 20’s some nearly 40.
Pros and cons to both!

Would that not be easier? I can't imagine starting again now mine are 11 and 13.
