I've been on Mumsnet for around 10 years now, I have read some crazy threads.

I'm lying in bed hungover and looking for some stories to brighten up my shameful Saturday afternoon.

If anyone wants to share it would be greatly appreciated Grin

All the competitve hygiene ones are ridiculous, as are the class marker ones. Literally just got here from yet another post where someone says that their duchess relative says X is lower class, although she hasn't said why anyone should give a toss. The class obsession on here is insane.

You'll often hear about the "give them the house" thread where someone inherited a house with sitting tenants and didn't know what to do. That one was disappointing when I found it. Nobody had seriously suggested giving them the house, someone said it sarcastically in response to a particular post.

There also appear to be a number of things that many MNers declare themselves incapable of understanding, that have always baffled them. Off the top of my head, the things they can't understand includes hot chocolate, Christmas pyjamas, carpets, designer handbags, toilet seats, fruit bowls, cake smash photo shoots and wedding dresses.

Look in classics OP, the fatball one is genius.

Can I just say that my only claim to fame on MN was naming the Yoni Massager Brian? <quietly proud>

Veeeeerrrrrry good claim to fame though 👌👊

Rogue1001MNer · 17/06/2023 17:30

I'm v happy that I'm on several of the threads that have been linked (different UN)

pinksheetss · 17/06/2023 17:32

The Quern

My favourite was the argos raven. I think it was a woman who had a £5 argos voucher her DH said was useless. So she wanted to know what to get with this voucher. After a few suggestions came a fake raven. It snowballed and people were asking questions on the argos website about it (tongue in cheek) and some argos customer rep duly answered them all! Then a few people bought a raven and posted photos of them in various places (I may or may not have joined in 😁) I think the woman ended up pulling off some prank on her husband involving the raven and a neighbour.

The other one was a woman who posted a steak she'd cooked trying to follow this particular way of presenting it and it looked like a gorillas hand 😂and she was asking "what did I do wrong?" There were some hilarious comments on there and for about a week every time I looked at the pic I'd laugh again.

greenspaces4peace · 17/06/2023 17:34

sadly deleted but a lovely long one, the op wanted to identify as scottish.
her reasoning was well thought out and the thread was very funny.

redskytwonight · 17/06/2023 17:36

The Pom Bear one was absolutely fantastic - had me in fits of laughter.

Though prize for simply the most bonkers thread was the poster who wrote that a visiting friend of her child had broken her child's birthday toy and should she ask friend's parents to buy another one. After a longish thread, the OP revealed the toy was in fact Lego so buying a new one would in fact simply give her the same item in equally broken form ...

Oh yes, that one truly made me laugh out loud.

Simonjt · 17/06/2023 17:37

Not a thread, but during covid someone suggested people put cheese in their tea/coffee rather than milk as buying milk isn’t needed and could kill people. Buying cheese was fine it seems.

I think my favourite bonkers thread, and I'm scared to mention it, is a zombie that keeps getting revived.

It's almost full now, and it'll break my heart when it is.

Re-reading it for me is like an architectural dig, because I've got different UNs going back years, and several are on there. Different epocs of me (and others, but I don't know their nc's, of course) on mn.
The thread was originally created 15 - 20 yrs ago, and is just asking for advice after receiving bad service.
Don't want to say more in case someone recognises and links it

HeidiWhole · 17/06/2023 17:37

Going back years now but hoping I've got this right...the mad neighbours who served pom bears at their dinner party.
No idea whether it was made up but it was very funny indeed.

Post it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LucyLongbody · 17/06/2023 17:39

Supersoaker was bonkers.

I heard about but didn't read a thread about Olympic horses. I think that was deleted sadly.

Rogue1001MNer · 17/06/2023 17:39

Easter bonnet is brilliant (in classics)

NowZeusHasLainWithLeda · 17/06/2023 17:39

Surely nobody believed fatballs?

That was one of the first threads where most of MN were going "yeah right, try harder".

The most batshit for pure arrogance thread was the Ryanair Dad who trapped his own child's own hand in the plane toilet door and then wanted to sue them for his own idiocy.

I never really see competitive hygiene stuff. From threads I read there's far more competitive minging regarding cleaning. Of own bodies as well as houses.

Abhannmor · 17/06/2023 17:39

There was a ' what's the worst thing you've ever done ' thread a while ago. Some completely bonkers stuff on there.

One that springs to mind is the woman who talked her DH into getting a vasectomy - having already decided to leave the marriage. He was young enough to start a new family and they had kids already so the OP didn't want this inconvenience and possible financial loss.

Some of the responses were .....interesting.

Oh god I need to see this one!

Rogue1001MNer · 17/06/2023 17:40

No chance @cassiatwenty!!!!!

SamanthaCaine · 17/06/2023 17:41

Deleted but for me it was the woman who got a man to collect her tumble dryer to take to the tip as scrap and he sold it for £60. She wanted to take him to court for the £60 as it wasn't his to sell and thought she should get the money.

When asked how she knew, she claimed to have put an Apple AirTag in it as she was suspicious of his motives and tracked it 🤦

Someone asked her if the man should've paid scrapital gains tax 😂

Bobshhh · 17/06/2023 17:43

There was one pre pandemic where a woman made her guests sit outside on her driveway for the duration of their children’s play date because she didn’t want them in her house or back garden.

iamnottoofatiamjusttooshort · 17/06/2023 17:44

I was hoping one of you clever people would link the " Korean little old lady sat in my garden with picnic while her son dismantles shed "

Op was concerned she might need a drink , then she might need a wee , should she offer her a deckchair

Surely she can't go out in case she needed the loo .. it just went on and on

Maybe not classic but very funny

Oh come on, you know you wanna! Can't let it go to waste. What if none looked at Mona Lisa to keep the painting safe? Dooooo it 😋

ElectricMagpie · 17/06/2023 17:44

@YouAreBeingUnbearable awkwardly, I'm an only child and my parents let me go to the Centreparcs pool alone around 13yrs of age (and I'm 5foot tall as an adult so looked far younger) I'm a big fan of swimming underwater and in hindsight must have terrified the other swimmers. It sort of came to a head one day when some strange woman dragged me out of the deepest part of the rapids ride. I was infuriated but now realise she sort of had a point. Sorry, strange lady, your intentions were good...
