To think the parents of children who are in childcare would like to see them more often?

I CM and have several sets of parents who finish work early on many occasions who never collect their child early. I know I am paid and it does not bother me in the slightest to look after them for their agreed hours, I just feel sorry for the child because they are missing out on this extra time with parents who work full time.

I was a working mum for 3 months (as in not CM) but always collected dd early when I finished early because I wanted to spend time with her. AIBU?

Speaking as a childminder, I really hope that parents are not put off having a childminder because of this thread.

We all have such different parenting ideas, and we should all respect each other for them.

For what it's worth, I don't mind why parents use me as a childminder - be it for work, to shop, have a haircut, or to sit at home and watch TV. As long as the parents are happy with the care I offer, and the children are happy to be with me, and I am happy to be paid for doing something I love doing, then it is a win-win-win situation.

I care very deeply for many of the children I mind or have minded and, although I know that I do not have the same intense bond that a parent has for their child, I think I sometimes must come reasonably close behind them.

I have some families that I've worked with for over 12 years now - just because I am being paid does not mean that I'm not allowed to have a bond with the children and their parents. Both dh and I are godparents to some of my mindees (whose parents were complete strangers to us when we first met), which is such a great privilege.

{sob}

I may have taken up plate spinning until now...ladies..my dreams are crushed...crushed I tell you.

alfiesbabe · 22/02/2008 20:11

scruffy I bet you'd make a fantastic plate spinner. You could always leave the kids at the CM while you get in a bit of practice after work

ScruffyTeddy · 22/02/2008 20:12

Silly girl...One already does....

motherinferior · 22/02/2008 20:22

NT, thanks for the pity, but my beautiful, adorable, clever, funny, helpful, imaginative daughters don't need it.

Sycamoretree · 22/02/2008 20:24

Hello again dingdong - I'm not getting sucked in tonight - we did our share last night! Let's switchoffourtelevisionsetsandgoanddosomethinglessboringinstead.

I came crawling back too and have enough perspective now not to argue with people I actually agree with.

Just wanted to say, has anyone noticed that Tori has removed her profile? I wonder if she shit herself that she would be found out.

tori32 · 22/02/2008 21:10

No I removed my profile because of the confidentiality issue, which someone on here reported someone else for. I obviously don't want to have people nosing at my profile who are completely hostile.

I may have been wrong to accuse nicetry of being a troll. Sorry if i was wrong.

georgiemama · 22/02/2008 21:41

Okay, I'm stepping up for a stoning. I don't even NEED to work, I choose to work full time because I love my job and spent five years at uni part time to train for it. And my 12 DS goes to a prison camp nursery, and he loves it.

In fact, we're even considering boarding school.

C'mon ladies, step right up and have a go.... I'm enjoying this thread immensely. I'm tired of lurking on the contentious threads and only posting helpfully where I can. I've had a glass of wine!!

georgiemama · 22/02/2008 21:42

oh poo I can't make that stupid strike through thing work!!

MsHighwater · 22/02/2008 21:50

you have to do it round each word, not the whole phrase.

alfiesbabe · 22/02/2008 21:51

erm... can i nake a confession.... (whispers) I don't need to work either!!! DH could support the family on his salary. Or I could support the family on mine. But we're both experienced teachers, we make a valuable contribution to society, and guess what, we enjoy our careers. Shocking innit.
